I called a few contractors to give an estimate to my much-neglected front yard. Joe came by, answered all my questions and gave some good advice about the project. I had few more questions and revisions to the proposal and Danny from Joe’s office were very helpful. They started the project as stated they would and finished in two week. Thanks Joe

My wife and I purchased a house about a year ago that was in desperate need of concrete work. The sidewalk in the front could use some help, as could the back patio... but what REALLY needed to be replaced was the driveway. We contacted J&B based on all the positive reviews on Angie's list. We were not disappointed. We got bids from a number of contractors. Many of them came over, looked around scratched their heads a few times and then gave us overpriced estimates. Joe came over, took some pictures, made some suggestions and was able to make a determination very quickly. He also gave us options, which is always nice (if you want to do this, it will cost you X, want to do this, it'll cost you Y, etc). We felt his estimate was fair and in line with what we expected to pay. Fast forward to the work. His team was able to start about a month later due to other jobs lined up and weather. Word to the wise, if you're having concrete work done, understand that it can't rain for a number of days before the job begins. This is probably pretty obvious when I mention it but it's just something to bear in mind if you're looking to schedule multiple things. The whole job took about four days. Two for demolition and another two for the layout of the concrete. Joe's crew was very professional, brought in top notch equipment and everything came out looking great! I previously had issues with puddles forming in the back because the concrete wasn't pitched properly. Since the new install it's pitched perfectly and rain now drains right from my back patio and into the grass. I also had them add cobblestones dividing my shared driveway and a shared lawn since my property *ahem* is in better shape than my neighbors so I wanted to have "lines drawn." That all came out looking great as well and created the division that I was looking for. Other details... I had Joe install a metal railing in the back for some stairs that I had replaced. That came out looking great, as did the basement windows that he installed. As a followup, there were a few minor imperfections that we saw in the concrete after the job was done. We called and let Joe know and he was back the next week and took care of them. My property looks worlds different than it looked before, and it's in no small part due to J&B's professionalism and timeliness. I'd gladly pick them again or recommend them to anyone looking to have either small or large concrete work done.

I contacted JB General Contracting on August 3rd., 2012, by looking through the Angie's List booklet, May, 2012 edition. Joe Battaglia came immediately to assess what was needed. He even took pictures of my friend's grate to know exactly what I wanted. He gave me an estimate on the spot which was not changed with any hidden costs or add ons. Several days later his Foreman came to measure the opening and within a week the job was done beautifully. Thank you, Joe, for a job well done and for making me a believer in Angie's List!
Description of Work: I needed a metal grate to cover the window well on the patio. There are two small basement windows at the base of an opening that's about 3 feet deep by 5 1/2 feet wide. The opening is flush with the patio concrete. The previous cover was a removable, (with back breaking effort) heavy, wood slatted one that was rotting and the termites were having a field day with it! The slats were wide enough that all sorts of debris could fliter down into the well, plus the Termite service I use had put two bait stations in the dirt at the bottom. They need access to check on the bait stations several times a year to see if there's activity. A neighbor had a metal, wrought iron grate with hinges that would fit my needs, but I didn't know who to turn to, hence Angie's List.

Overalll, it was a very good experience. Joe was able to rework an estimate to suit my budget. He was extremely responsive throughout the project, as were all personnel at JB. Each of them was personable and very pleasant to work with. Because this project was naturally messy as I had significant leaks in windows and brick, Joe added on some extras to help keep me happy throughout. I honestly believe that they really wanted to please me and I appreciated that. One of their men, Tony, spent some time here to oversee and he was a complete gentlemen. The neighbors (attached house) were very impressed by the quality ot the repointing.
Description of Work: Rear brick facade of the house had to have paint removed, power washed, brick mortar grinded and repointed. Sunroom had to have walls and celing removed to restore into a deck. Railings were added and floor was redone. All rear windows were sealed and capped and gutters installed. Interior window trim was painted.

The job went perfectly from Joe's getting the dumpster on day one to his thorough clean-up on the last day. The workmanship of the concrete work and decorative stones were excellent and high-quality. I was very impressed with the clean-up that was done after the job was completed. AND I was very impressed that the job was completed on-time just as Joe had promised.
Description of Work: I needed the concrete redone around the perimeter of my home to eliminate cracks and holes and to prevent leakage into the house. I also needed the garden wall pushed back so as to allow my shopping cart to easily get to the side of the house.Joe of JB General Contracting rebuilt the garden wall to match perfectly with the old brickage. The perimeter cement work was perfectly done and Joe also put decorative stones in the backyard to beautifully separate his concrete work from my garden plants. I was very satisfied with his high-quality workmanship and his thoroughness in cleaning up after the job was completed. Joe completed the job on time - just as he promised. It was a pleasure (and definitely hassle-free) working with him.

These guys were great. They did the work promptly, they obtained the needed permits and they followed up on the work. One of the best experiences I have ever had with a contractor. They were about 10 % more than another estimate, but I feel they really knew how to do the job and were totally worth it.

The sidewalk in front of my house was cited for a violation. The sidewalk was shifted and my drive way had cracks. I needed the job to get done with speed and efficiency. Their assessment of the situation seemed fair so I agreed to their price and proposal. The job got done faster than I expected it! I was glad that they made my needs a priority in their business. My insurance was within days of being cancelled but J.B. Contracting came through for me and made my wife very happy! I have a new sidewalk, the front of my house looks much better, and more secure. Thanks guys.
Description of Work: They removed and replaced entire front sidewalk, apron, driveway, walkway up to the garage door using 3500 PSI (strength). They used wire reinforced concrete, 4 inch thick over a compacted sub-base. They ground up a tree stump that was in front of my house. They removed and carted all debris, and filed paperwork to DOT for violation.

I found JB on Angie's List and decided to give them a call after reading the great reviews. I needed a lot of work done on my stoop and the back wall of my brownstone house which was damaged by overgrown ivy and a lot of tough weather. After originally talking to the secretary Joe, the owner, quickly called me back then then came the next day to give me an estimate. After deciding to use JB and signing the contract the work started almost immediately. The crew were very clean, quiet, helpful and worked through some bad weather. They were able to do a lot of high quality work in a very reasonable amount of time amount of time, and I was very satisfied with what they did. Overall I was very happy with the work and I will proudly recommend JB to anyone looking for a contractor. My house looks great. Thanks Joe. Rob K.
Description of Work: Stoop- power washed, damaged steps repaired, cracks filled. Stoop repainted. Back wall of the house- dead mortar removed, ivy taken off. New concrete was put over the bricks and the wall was sealed and the gutter was adjusted.

The JB team did an excellent job. The work got scheduled within 3 day from the contract signing. The guys showed up on time and started right away. They were very professional and responsive to all our requests. The process was extra smooth, without any hiccups or complications and was completed in less than 8 hours. Joe, the owner, was on another job but called a few times to check whether the everything was on the right track. He then came over towards the end of the job to make sure we were happy with the quality of the work. We definitely were. Congratulations Joe and team!!!

Joe came the day after the call and provided an expedited bid as there was a pending baby delivery and the understep storage was needed for the baby carrage. The work was started in the next week and was completed as quickly as the weather would allow. They even worked on Saturday and Sunday as that was the only weather window in the next week (no extra charge). So far there has been no further water in the storage area so I would declare the job a success. Joe kept in touch as to the quality of the work and the professionalism of the workers.

Three words to describe JB General Contractors “professional, polite and informative”. Joe arrived on time looked at the project and told us exactly how much everything would cost; minus the tax. When the workers arrived all of them were early, polite and professional. The on-site supervisor consulted me on any change made to the property/project; in this case widening the staircase to the basement. The end result of the patio was better than we expected. My wife was pleasantly surprise and immediately wondered if they did interior work. Upon completion they cleaned the area in front of our home and next door; thoroughly. That afternoon and the next morning Joe phoned to make sure we followed all the necessary steps to secure/maintain our beautiful patio. This was after he received full payment. I mentioned that fact because many companies disappear once payment is made; NOT THEM. We would definitely do business with JB General Contractors again and we recommended them to our next door neighbors. We have future projects on our list that we hope could be done by JB General Contracting. As a Angie list member, there is currently a 5% discount for concrete pouring. Looking forward to the check in the mail.

Three men arrived. They arrived at the exact scheduled time. They had all the right equipotent to do a professional job. They worked in such a manor that as they worked they removed all the broken black top.The chalked off a 10" bY 10" BY 8"" deep area around the pump area and poured the cement so neat and clean that when they left you couldn't find a piece of the original drive. If your thinking concrete, LOOK no further. JB is Professional, Honest, and delivers more then he promised. When they left, you would never know that they were there if not for the new 100 sq. foot of new cement around the pump area. Thanks Joe.Rich Weisel, Brooklyn, NYPS, This was all done in five hours.
Description of Work: We have a common driveway behind a row of eleven homes. The drive is below street level and requires a commercial grade sump pump to get rid of the heavy rain water. The homes are 50+ years old and the original drive was black top over dirt.. The drive was sinking and the area around the pump was cracking and in need of repair. Joe Battaglia owner of JB Contracting , personally responded to my call and recommended that we replace the black top with concrete.

They did everything I asked. There were follow up calls to make sure the work was satisfactory. I forgot to use the Angie discount, so I have no idea how that would have gone, but the man I dealt with was professional and courteous. I can't judge the price other than by comparison, and the work was obviously done by a subcontractor, but everything seems well done. I'll have to wait a year or so to see how it holds up; but as of now it was all good.

Joe at JB Contracting was recommended to us by friends for whom he had done a similar project. We were impressed by their new steps and porch and decided to call him for an estimate. He came to the house the following Saturday, which was when we were available to meet with him and prepared what we felt was a reasonable estimate. Based on his estimate and our friends' experience with him and our sense that he was forthright and sincere, we agreed to go forward. It took a little while to iron out the technical details of the contract (one of us is an attorney!), but Danny in JB Contracting's office and Joe himself were responsive to our concerns throughout the process. We asked that the work begin when our neighbors would be present, as our houses are attached and we wanted to be sure that everyone was comfortable with the details of the project. Joe accommodated our request and the work began as promised. The removal of the old porch and sidewalk, etc. took approximately two days and the rebuilding took another two days. The men worked on Saturday as well as during the week. They were neat, polite and very, very competent. The wrought iron railings were made in the shop of a top notch craftsman who oversaw their installation and took one piece back to his shop to reconfigure when he wasn't 100% satisfied with the way it fit and looked. The new fence is beautiful. This was a major project and investment for us. We really wanted the front of our house to look good and for the walkway, sidewalks and steps to be stable and safe. Joe kept a close eye on the job and called often to find out if we were satisfied with the work and happy with the outcome. We felt very well cared for and as if the job mattered to Joe, his company and the workmen who did the actual work. We are happy with and proud of our new front porch, railings, walkway and sidewalk and would recommend Joe and JB Contracting wholeheartedly. A final touch which we found lovely and proof of the pride this company takes in its work: JB Contracting placed a small, unobtrusive brass medallion with their company name in the completed concrete. How great is that, that they care enough to do work they are proud to sign!
Description of Work: JB Contracting removed old porch, railings, steps, pathway and sidewalk and replaced them with new porch (bluestone and concrete),new steps (brick and bluestone), new pathway (brick), new sidewalk (concrete) and new railings and additional fencing (wrought iron).

The old iron and fake stone staircase leading up to the main door of my brownstone had finally rusted out. I first had another company replace the ironwork and then this company added granite treads over the iron. While I was at it, I had them replace the broken marble threshold on the front door. Then bottom line about working with this company is that I felt that they knew where to get excellent material ,who should cut it (both the marble and the granite had to be cut to size), and had very experienced men who did the work. Joe the contact person's father started the company and he has been working there since he was 13. This shows. For example, the marble threshold on this old house was bigger than the usual size that is sold today and was oddly shaped because it was put in place before the door was hung a hundred years ago. Joe spotted that and said it could not be made exactly like it was because you couldn't get it in. He seemed to have been working with his suppliers for a long time. He had a special guy who did his marble work, another who supplied the granite, and another guy who cut it. He seemed to appreciate skilled workers and craftspeople and had an esthetic response to the materials (he likes pretty marble and handsome granite, so to speak.) The work was well done in a timely manner. The cost was not cheap but fair and the what I think is the standard rate.
Description of Work: I put 8 granite treads on a replacement wrought iron stairway and a marble threshold on the front door.

The workers were professional and polite. The job was actually completed earlier than expected. I am very happy with the quality of the job and would recommend this company.

I did not have a good experience with them at all. He sent unqualified men and a foreman who kept leaving. SUB- CONTRACTORS! Workers did not know what to do. They kept jumping to different jobs. Can't paint and prep for jobs. Wrong materials used. Workers came unprepared. Can't powerwash and paint at same time. Extremely overpriced on all jobs. Started out good with first meeting. We called them up and they came down and the gentlemen who came down was the owner. He came down, looked at the job, gave us price quotes, and the quotes were outrageously high. Got a estimate for exterior paint on my house from Joe that was $12,000. More than any other company. Maybe he thinks he's related to Rembrandt! Then we separated some of the jobs we wanted to do because the job we wanted them to do was way over budget. The first job we had them do was remove a bunch of trees along my property line that died in the hurricane this past summer. Then the other one was to paint my rod iron fence. They pulled the trees out and in doing so they broke some sprinkler lines and whatever it is. They decided to paint the fence before they pushed the dirt away from the fence. It was a very windy day and they were painting and the dirt was going on the fence and they just kept painting and painting without covering the dirt or moving the dirt away. They tried to replace sidewalk expansion joints with silicone. Looks terrible and what a mess they made. My wife was ballistic because she tried to stop them from doing what they were doing. They weren't doing things right. They came unprepared, didn't have paint brushes, didn't have this, didn't have that, didn't scrape down the fence. It turned out to be a disaster and we had to remove them from the job. They dropped off a dumpster and left it for over a week after workers left. The employees did work hard but they weren't qualified to do the job. When we called the office, nobody knew about the construction business. He seemed very personable but he didn't say he couldn't do the job. Joe had personal problems and was never on job site. He never returns phone calls. He was in court and neglected the business. They never came when they were supposed to. To them it's all about money. Customers should educate themselves about construction costs. Very disappointed and would never recommend them. I think half if not more of the reviews are bogus. All "A's"....really? BEWARE! !!
Description of Work: We used JB Custom Masonry & Concrete to remove dead trees and paint my rod iron fence.

Very good experience overall. Demo took a couple days longer because the old slab was twice as thick as we had originally thought, and they also had some equipment problems. Even though it took the crew extra time they stuck with their original price and their work looks very nice. All the workers were nice guys and very professional. I will definitely use their services next time.
Description of Work: Demo an existing 1,200 square foot slab and re pour.
