JB contacted me immediately and provided an estimate. I received three bids from different companies and selected them because I felt they were the most professional. They worked with my complicated schedule and weather. They build the metal frame first and then poured the concrete. They had to return to paint the railings as it wasn't done. We had some hiccups during the process but I was satisfied until now. Two months later I could see a bit of rust showing through the thin layer of concrete and they came back and fixed it. Now a year later, I'm having the same rust problem (which is the reason I replaced the original stairs). The problem now is they're not responding to any of my messages or emails. I sent them photos, have called them and even thought people pick up the phone and record the messages no one returns the calls. The job has a two year warranty so I'm in every right to demand a correction on their job. I'm frustrated with their lack of response.
Description of Work: Work consisted of removing old, rusted, metal stairs and landing with new stairs. Per their recommendation they created a metal base, and pour concrete over it. They also did new railing around the steps.

well they did a good job but were poor in response to damage caused by broken pipe of rain sewage pipe that flooded basement it was the worst problem I had with them and even after they fixed it (the pipe) the patch job they did leaked then they came and put some kind of silicone on the wall and base of the home which seems to work but I think it should have been redone but that is my fault for letting it go

(deleted member name), WE APRECIATE YOUR REVIEW ON ANGIES LIST BUT I MUST BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION THAT I WAS THE ONE THAT POINTED OUT TO YOU DURING MY INITIAL MEETING WITH YOU THAT THE PIPE APPEARED TO BE DAMAGED AND YOU SAID TO ME " JUST DO THE BEST YOU CAN AROUND IT" WELL WE WERE VERY CAREFULL DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE CONCRETE BUT AS YOU KNOW IT WAS A PRE- EXISTING CONDITION WHICH I ACTUALLY CAMEE BACK AND INSTALLED SILICONE CAULKING TO STOP THE LEAKAGE BUT IN ANY EVENT OTHERWISE THE JOB WENT SEAMLESS AND THE END RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. AGAIN THANK YOU FOR USING OUR COMPANY AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING YOU AGAIN SOON. BEST REGARDS, JOE BATTAGLIA

They said that they would be there at 7:30, and at 7:30 the door bell rang. They were very good and efficient! There were three guys that did the work and not one minute was wasted with them standing around. The clean up was remarkable! They finished the job in one day! The finish product turned out better than we expected. I would have them back tomorrow if I need them. They are extremely friendly guys! I couldn't ask for anything better, my wife and I are very pleased. For the work was asked for them, I thought the price was very reasonable.
Description of Work: Knock out an area that a tree had died. Leveled the area all around it. Knocked out an old retaining wall and hauled it away. They poured the concrete in the hole that the tree left.

Absolutely the top of the line in excellence. (I have worked with numerous contractors in my profession). The JB crew was experienced and well trained. The foreman/mason practices his art with perfection. Always on time. Finished in less time than expected. When they did inadvertant damage, it was repaired immediately. Clean-up was complete.

JB General Construction was good. If Joe was out of the office, he would call you back if you left a message. They came when they said they were going to come. They got the job done within one day, managing to clean up after themselves and finished it well. I had them come back as I didn't like how the stoop was built around the two railings that were already there. They were going home and then the owner, Joe, came out to collect the other check. I showed him that I wasn't happy with how it looked near the railings. He called up the man who worked on the stoop to come back out and smooth out the concrete making it look much nicer.
Description of Work: I had them work on a stoop in my backyard. They expanded the stoop by one step, it initially had four steps and now it has five.

Mr. [member name removed]. In response to your negative comments recently posted on Angie’s List, kindly note the following In your initial communication to us, you stated that you were a ‘rehabber’seeking bids from numerous contactorsfor the proposed ‘rehab’ of either bank owned REO/foreclosure properties that you either owner or were interested in purchasing. You had also inquired as to whether we might be interested in purchasing the subject properties directly from you as it was assumed (on your part) that we could easily ‘rehab’ the properties ourselvesat discounted pricing Additionally, you had further inquired as to whether we might know of other people that would likewise be interested in purchasing (from you) handyman special properties at below market prices with the purpose of making fast turnaround money You left me with the impression that as an active ‘rehabber’, with long standing relationships with numerous contactors, you would easily obtain competitive pricing to satisfy your current requirements. That having been said, quite frankly, it never occurred to me that not receiving a bid from our company would cause an unwarranted wrath to be released in the form of negative commentary on Angie’s List. In closing I find it necessary to state that although I did express a possible interest in pursuing your request, my workload at that particular point in time obligated me to first complete prior requests for competitive bids from established clients which consequently drew my focus away from your pending affairs. Best Regards, Joe Battaglia

I can't express how satisfied I am. The workers just finished the job and I just had to write my review. I am new to home ownership and this was my first time having to hire a contractor. I have to admit I was not sure what to expect as you always hear about people who have terrible experiences with contractors. That was definitely not my experience with J.B.General Contractors. My first experience with Joe was, wow he?s a fast talker and while this can put off most people, I knew Joe was a businessman who did not have time to waste. Joe came out personally looked over what I needed to get done, took some measurement and gave me a quote and simply said to let him know when and if I wanted to proceed. I felt no pressure from him to contract them. As soon as I agreed to contract them, Danny sent over the contract. They even arranged to get the City permit to fix the sidewalk. They took care of everything. Joe kept me informed through the process. He called Saturday to say they would be here Monday morning, and as promised, first thing Monday morning he called to confirm the team was on their way. Tony and the team arrived and were working by 7:30 am. Tony was a total sweetheart. I have to say each and every member of Joe?s team was professional, courteous and efficient. They knew what they were doing. They removed all the old concrete driveway and sidewalk while keeping the surrounding neighbors area clean. Through the whole process Tony kept checking that I was pleased with the work. When all the debris was removed, team proceeded to lay down the new concrete driveway. Team paid attention to removing a long patch of earth beside my entry steps while retaining a small patch of earth so that I keep a smaller flowerbed. Watching the whole process was exciting. They were meticulous with every step. You can definitely see they have been doing this for years. Upon completion they even barricaded the area so no one would walk on the wet concrete. As soon as the job was complete, Joe telephoned to make sure I was satisfied with the work, and I am. TWO THUMBS UP! As they say first impression are everything and now my home has curb appeal. With spring here, I can?t wait to see my roses blooming in my flowerbed. I definitely would look to hiring JB General Contractors to do additional work in my home. GREAT JOB TEAM!
Description of Work: Remove severely cracked and worn concrete driveway extending to sidewalk. Retain and shorten flowerbed.

The services of JB General Contracting started when I received a telephone call about my inquiry for their services. Not only were they polite and courteous but they exemplified what it means to follow up with your potential customer. This alone was impressive but once I met the crew and saw the outcome of their hard work I was truely impressed and satisified. They arrived early, prepared the area space where they would be working, and unloaded their equipment quickly and quietly. Every now and then I would pop up to see the progress being made and the crew would answer my questions and explain what they were doing and what the next step would be. Upon completion I was given a final review of the work performed and received a follow up call regarding service within 30 minutes. All good traits and well worth my recommendation!
Description of Work: The services performed included the following: Concrete break up and removal Repave/regrade area of concrete removal Clean up area after completion Tape off area to prevent interference

Honestly, I was worried about the whole process; worried about the new bricks not matching the existing ones, and worried about the quality of the iron fence not being comparable with the existing fence. Joe assured me that it will look great, and will have everything matching as humanly possible. His crew came out to prep and clean up the area, trimmed back the roots from the oak tree; power washed the existing brick wall (which had moss on it) to its original bright color. His brick and iron team members are professional and very knowledgeable and confident about their craft. Joe came by to inspect the process and wanted to know each time what I thought about the work done. I am very pleased with the job that JB General Contractors did. Everything looks uniformed, bricks match in color, old and new. The new iron fence has the same design as the old one. His team made my house look like a hurricane Sandy never touched it.
Description of Work: I looked on Angie’s List for a contractor to repair about 40 feet of iron fence and supporting brick wall that was damaged by a huge oak tree during hurricane Sandy. I saw that JB General Contractors had more good reviews than any other company so; I decided to give them a shot. I called Joe up and he came out the next morning to provide an estimate. He was professional, prompt and knowledgeable.

It's worth mentioning that the work began long before the crew actually arrived to begin demolition. Joe originally came to estimate the job last spring. It was clear that I was in desperate need of a new driveway. Before I knew it, three months had passed and I still had not followed up to have the work scheduled. I finally contacted Joe and he came back to take another look at the work to be done. This time I was going to follow through because I really wanted the job finished before winter. Joe's staff immediately followed up with a written estimate and email. Unfortunately due to work related commitments, repairs on my home fell to the bottom of the priority list. Getting in touch with me, let alone actually speaking with me, was nearly impossible. Joe and his staff continued to follow up (respectfully, not in the annoying telemarketer way) until they actually contacted me in December. Miraculously, Joe came back to my house yet again, this time with a contract in hand. The price was fair and there was no question in my mind that Joe would do exactly what he had committed to doing. His patience and promptness during THREE visits regarding this job spoke for itself. Joe called once after checking the weather to let me know that he could begin work with no concerns about temperature/precipitation effecting the new concrete. Before I knew it, a crew showed up and began working precisely when I was told they would, their only request being running water and an electrical outlet. All demolition was complete and concrete was poured on day one. Frankly I was a little skeptical of having the work done in the winter but the crew took the extra precaution of covering the freshly poured concrete with special blankets to protect it and accelerate curing (who knew?!!?). They worked cleanly and quickly disturbing not even a single holiday decoration which were still on display! Before I knew it my atrocious driveway and eyesore garden edging were replaced with clean even concrete and beautiful cobblestone. Day two, the steps were repaired and minor finish work was completed. Joe and his office staff called several times to check in during the job to confirm that I was happy and had no concerns. Joe even emailed me knowing that I could be difficult to contact by phone. After the work was complete Joe paid a final visit during which we spoke about the next phase of my ongoing project. I can't thank Joe and the rest of the team at JB enough for their patience and follow up. They did a great job and I couldn't be more pleased!
Description of Work: Joe removed an old asphalt driveway and poured new concrete. He also installed new cobblestone edging around the front lawn and repaired the old brick front steps.

When life throws you a curve ball, you need the right people, people you can trust, to help you. This is what happened when unexpectedly I needed to be in a wheelchair. Since the entrance to my home has many steps, I wanted to have a ramp built so that I could exit my home. From my internet research, I read that there were specific measurements related to the dimensions of a ramp. This literature was confusing and complicated. So I called Joe at JB Contracting. I had used his company before and I hoped that his team would have the expertise to build a ramp for me. Joe sent his Project Manager (Moe) to talk to me. He understood exactly what I needed and he said he knew the required specifications to make a safe and compliant ramp. I approved the project and the timeline. JB Contracting finished the job ahead of schedule. After the completion, Joe followed up to make sure I was happy with the job. While I loved my ramp, I asked him to do some cosmetic work to the nearby fence. He sent his team over and they put the finishing touches on this job to my complete satisfaction. I am very, very happy with my ramp. There are no words to express my current feeling of independence.
Description of Work: JB Contracting, a company I have used previously, built a sturdy and compliant ramp from the porch of my home to the street so that I could safely exit my home in a wheelchair. JB Contracting used specially treated wood for this ramp which is both attractive and maintenance-free.

Customer I am glad you are happy with the results of the ADA compliant access ramp we installed at your home. We are ver happy to have been a repeat contractor within the last 6 months based on our performance. I would love nothing more that your health being restored to normal and to come back and remove the ramp completely. May god bless you with good health. Best regards, Joe Battaglia

We did not hire this contractor. His manners over the phone were very rude to begin with, he rushed me of the phone, was speaking to other people while I was describing the work and had an attitude about him. Even through this, I decided to meet him in person with hopes he was just caught in a moment. He came to our house for an estimate and arrived nearly an hour late. Then when he got there, he told us that he wouldn't do the work we wanted him to do (which would have been fine because we were open to plenty of ideas but he disregarded our plans completely), we could only do it his way; his tone was very condescending then, when he explained his idea and gave us an estimate that was DOUBLE what we had been quoted by another contractor; a few thousand over I could understand but we were previously quoted $15,000 -$30,000 for the same job seems absurd. I got the vibe that he didn't want to do this job in the first place especially when his parting words were "good Luck" instead of "I look forward to hearing from you".

Customer I apologize for putting you on hold during our initall phone call but as I explained afterwards a DOT inspector had walked into our office and required immediate attention. Secondly upon my site visit with your husband and not yourself I reviewed the scope of work and was asked for a budget price based on my assesment of the work which I did and came up with a price of @ $30K. My price included an engineers drawing and a work permit which in after speaking to your husband he blantely told me that all the other estimates he received no one mentioned the need for an engineer or work permits. He also mentioned to me how one of his fireman colleagues received an $8000.00 fine from the Department of Buildings for a similar job. We here at JB will not conspire to do any work without the proper permits and therefore upon leaving I made the comment "good luck to you" We hope we can help you on this protect once you realize as your husbands colleague found out the expensive way that just by being the homeowner one can not just perform work on the home as one pleases without the proper work permits. Best regards, Joe Battaglia
