Crew arrived about two hours late but did an excellent job. I waited before providing a review to make sure the concrete lasted without cracking at least a month and am satisfied with the job. I would hope the punctuality issue was an aberration. I would use them again based on the quality of the work and the professionalism displayed by the crew once they were on the job.

When I started lookingfor a company to pave over my mom?s back yard, JB General Contractors was at the top of Angie?s list, and they certainly lived up to the billing. Joe really made sure that everything that needed to be done was in the contract. His crew was fast, efficient and professional. The man of operations, Tony was very attentive all the way through. He made sure that the yard was designed exactly as we wanted and that we were happy with the end result. The breakdown of the oldbackyard, laying of the new cement, and clean up took a little bit over two days, which impressed my mother who expected it to be longer. They followed all our directions on leaving her enough space for her plants, to the T. The support is excellent with Joe calling in or dropping by to make sure that we were happy with what his crew was doing. The price was certainly very reasonable for the amount of work that they did, the quality and the efficiency. From the contract terms all the way to the finished product, this company really delivered and we couldn't be happier with the end result. In the future when we?re ready to do the front yard, we?ll definitely call them back.
Description of Work: They had to pave over the whole back yard which was 28X 25 feet. This also meant they had to take away all the junk and the old concrete that was already there.

After years of water issues (some severe) in my basement, I called JB General Contracting for assistance. I never used them before or know anyone who has. I read their reviews and decided to go with them. In summary, it was the best phone call I ever made. I made an appointment with Joe (General Partner) to come and provide consultation on what my basement needed to resolve my water troubles. Keep in mind, I did a lot of research beforehand and needed some additional direction which way I needed to go but I wanted to hear Joe's perspective. As soon as Joe looked at my basement, he knew. Immediately we were on the same page: he was answering my questions before I was asking them. He gave me a sound plan on what it would take to get my basement back. He gave me a verbal estimate and followed up with a scope of work statement immediately thereafter. Joe was extremely professional, extremely knowledgeable and completely proficient in his craft. Even though I felt confident, I was a little hesitant because of the lack of previous familiarity with them. However, I decided to pick JB Contracting for the work. Due to a previous commitment, I was also up against a very tight timeframe on when I needed to get this done. Joe re-worked his schedule to accommodate me and I am tremendously appreciative of that. Joe invited me to come by and sign the contract at his site on Atlantic Avenue which I accepted. Once I was on site, I was confident this was the group. JB Contracting is a Big Operation. The whole time on the site, I was wondering why he would even entertain my problem. Why would he even care about my basement? You know what, he did. I felt I had a huge team behind me and that gave me confidence in my decision. If you have any doubts, please visit them. It gives you a different perspective on the type of company JB Contracting is. The job started and completed on time as Joe committed too. (I personally though it would take much longer, there was a lot of manual work). The workers were educated on the task and needed minimum supervision. Joe and his foreman would be on site at different points to inspect the progress and make adjustments as they saw fit. The work was organized, clean and did not disrupt my house or neighbors at all. As the job progressed, I was concerned about getting Joe my payments as we discussed, but he seemed more concerned about my basement and my time-frame more than anything else. I am exceedingly pleased with the work and would highly recommend JB Contracting to anyone. Joe followed up with me 3 times after the work was completed: once through email and twice on the phone. After a heavy rainfall, he called to see how the basement was doing. How tremendous is that? I don?t worry about my basement anymore, but it was nice to see he did. So far, my basement is dry??Thanks to JB Contracting and to Joe B. I will use them again without reservation or doubt.
Description of Work: JB General Contracting installed a French drain around the peremeter foundation wall of my basement. They also installed a sump basin and pump. They also sealed around the whole external peremeter of my house with chaulk.

While renovating my first floor apartment I discovered water coming into the back room which is a brick addition to my Sunnyside Gardens house. Because it has a flat roof we first checked that, but the roofer said the water was coming in through the brick. I called several contractors, but Joe got right back to me with and went to the house to prepare an estimate. I needed the work done as soon as possible so that the renovation could continue inside. He was booked for several weeks, but said he would do his best to get to it earlier if he could. To my surprise, he began the work one week later and completed the job in four days. He contacted me before the job began, when they had finished the brick work, and again when they completed the waterproofing. His responsiveness, professionalism and communication were much appreciated.
Description of Work: Repointed and sealed brickwork.

Joe at J B was always in contact with me from start to finish. I didn't actually meet Joe but his crew was amazing. They were prompt. professional and polite. They went out of their way to be helpful to me as I was a woman alone that day. When I got to the building they were already there, earlier than I expected. When I got there I found that while I was away someone on the block had cut a tree down and left all the trunks and branches right on my sidewalk. I was so upset. and was worried that they would not be able to do the job. The guys from JB told me not to worry that they would take care of it. They moved everything out of the way and placed it front of the actual trash owners property for me once we had found out who it was. This was not part of the job I hired them to do. They did not have to do this and I so appreciate them going beyond the call of duty. The work was completed earlier then they estimated and it looks beautiful. I was on premises the entire time they worked and what I saw was complete professionalism and pride in their work. Not only were they really nice guys but they gave me a quality job at a very fair price. Kudos to JB.

As newcomers to Angies List, we were so pleased with the results with JB General Contractors. When hiring people, we are always concerned about dependability, workmanship, price, accountability and professionalism. Joe and JB Contractors rated tops in all those fields. From start (quote) to finish, they were a pleasure to deal with. Watching their work reminded us of years ago when craftsmen took pride in their work. Although our job was a relatively small job but they made us feel like it was their most important job. We would highly recommend JB Contracting to anyone.

He came by, he checked out the work took measurements etc. His team was here the next day. The young men were very professional and respectful. They regarded my family with the outmost respect.. Joe and his team made us feel they were taking care of their own. I intend to have them back in a few months. I am going to redo the front of the house with cobblestones. We first had Joe to the house, to provide us with an estimate for removal of our existing sidewalk and driveway. We had several other estimates that were some that were cheaper but, we decided to use JB Construction based on there reputation. A month had went buy after Joes first visit. We had just heard back from our architect that the deck we wanted would be to large for our yard. Who wants an 8 foot deck? Instead we decided to redo our backyard with pavers so we had Joe come back and give us a second estimate now with pavers. I was going to try and do it on the cheap, but he recommended Cambridge pavers. I called Cambridge pavers to check on his qualifications to install them. When I told northeast sales manger who I was considering for the job, "he said Joe B with all the red trucks, he is amazing and is an authorized installer" that was it for us we signed the contact and sent Joe the deposit. He worked with us on scheduling a convenient date, as we had other tradesman on site. This is important Joe will not send a crew to your house unless he has verbal confirmation with you, understandably, so that can be a little tricky if you cant be reached for most of the day. Total project time was 3 days. we reserved 2 parking spots for our 15yd dumpster which was dropped of at 4am. The crew arrived early and was very efficient, all demo was completed the first day. The second day the concrete was poured. just as they had finished pouring the concrete the a thunder storm erupted that lasted about 15 mins. Tony the site foreman said don't work and they were able to redo the finish of the freshly poor concrete. Day three the pavers were laid and cleanup began. We had one hiccup during the entire project, it came at the end. The prior month we had just had an new 6ft privacy fence and gate installed. the gate would no longer close. Tony the concrete and paving site foreman tried to remedy the situation but was unable to. I called Joe he said not to worry it will be corrected. Joe said he only wants happy clients. the next day Sent one of his specialists to our house, he looked at the problem he said I"m going back to the shop to make what you need. he came back in an hour and fixed the problem in 15mins. The driveway, sidewalk and our new patio look great. Thanks Joe

Joe came out for an estimate at the beginning of June. He got back to me same day with a quote. I had a few other contractors out for competitive bids, but I didn't feel as comfortable with them as I did with JB. As soon as I signed the contract and sent in the deposit, Joe was on the phone with me constantly to coordinate the job, working around my schedule as I was not only going on vacation with my family, but also trying to get the work done before July 5, when my sister is getting married...in our back yard. Getting this work done was crucial, because the original "siding" on the back of our house was primarily actually roofing material done incorrectly by the previous owners. It looked horrible, but did the trick in terms of keeping water out. Also, I had put down pavers myself last summer, but not being a mason, I just set them in the dirt. They looked uneven and unprofessional, and they certainly wouldn't work for the wedding because my sister would surely trip and fall. The workers from JB showed up 20 minutes early, and were courteous, conscientious, funny, and most importantly, very skilled and hard-working. The brick path was finished by 2PM, and the siding was finished by 5:30PM. The crew cleaned up after themselves and rarely took any breaks outside of lunch until the job was completed. The few issues I raised were addressed immediately to my satisfaction. It really couldn't have gone better, and I was impressed with the level of communication and quality throughout. Overall, it was a great experience, I'm very happy with the work, and I look forward to working with Joe and his team on future projects at my home and my business.

Magnificent. Hire them. Emailed on Tues, didn't hear back Called on Thurs, receptionist very apologetic, said estimator would contact me the same day. Joe called that afternoon and we made an appointment for him to look at our place on Saturday. Joe was very professional and intuitive-- he grasped the style of patio we wanted faster than any of the other contractors we spoke to. In the course of trying to dig myself a flower bed, I had discovered a large amount of marble tile and bluestone buried in our yard. We wanted to re-use the marble and stone in our new patio for an older, more weathered look. Joe took this idea and ran with it. Since there was a small bluestone walkway that he would have to break up to cure a drainage problem anyway (draining toward our foundation), he suggested using this stone in the patio as well. He also suggested doing a light acid wash on the concrete to make it look older like the stone. He gave us an estimate of about $4,000 to repair holes in our foundation (including one made by a tree root the size of a phone pole that would have to be chainsawed out), do two layers of masonry on the 1/3 of our foundation in the back yard for waterproofing and finish, break up the bluestone walkway and replace it with a drywell under a small concrete pad, and to lay a roughly 10' x 15' patio using the salvaged stone with cutouts fort two trees and one near the spigot. There wasn't enough stone to make the stones abut given the size of the patio, so we agreed on wider cement margins between stones. Joe estimated that this would take two days. The two other contractors (also from Angie's List) that we spoke to had quoted us about $10k each and didn't seem to grasp the nature of the patio we were proposing. To their credit, both of these guys seemed very focused on the foundation work and were proposing some interesting drainage solutions. As this portion of our foundation is only under our kitchen extension and we don't have a basement there, and as this work was more preventative than curative, we decided to go with Joe. We signed a contract a week after my initial email and left a 1/3 deposit. The two ladies working in the office were very friendly and helpful. The next day (today) was amazing. The crew of 4 arrived 15 mins early for a scheduled 7:30 start. I walked Tony through the job?and by 9am they had removed the giant root, repaired the foundation, and given it a first coat of masonry. They had also broken up the walkway and were digging the drywall. (Devil's advocate: I had dug down 18-24" all along the foundation myself, so the site was somewhat prepped) By 11 am they had leveled the patio, built the form for the patio and applied a second layer of foundation stucco. Their lunch break was very short. They didn't take a coffee break. With all of the layout decisions, Tony was very careful to double check with me before taking action. He made sure to check the location and size of the various cutouts, and asked me to stand by and approve the placement of the stones in the wet cement. I had drawn up a simple color plan for the stones in the morning, which Tony followed scrupulously, and he did an excellent job stretching my relatively small amount of stone to fit the whole patio. This is why you hire a professional. It's 2pm now and the guys are doing finish work on our *new* patio as it dries. Tomorrow will just be power washing and cleanup. I'll update this post after it rains to vouch for the drainage! Joe checked in by phone at several points to make sure that we were happy-- and we are! (Devil's advocate: as this was not a demolition or carting job, they didn't take the giant root away with them, but that's okay as we didn't discuss it beforehand. I will cut it up and dispose of it piecemeal.)

I found out about JB on Angie's list. JB was the only contractor who offered a competitive price and the only one who is highly rated on Angie's list. It was difficult to find reviews of contractors who do curb cuts, so I hope this helps others who want to install a curb cut on there property. The property we own in the bronx has a space for a driveway, but the company that built it did not do a curb cut and left it up to the owner. We went through the process with the DOB and luckily we knew someone who was a PE so that saved us a lot of money. So we put that savings into the curb cut. After getting the approval from the DOB I contacted JB and they sent me quote the same day. JB got all the work permits required for the job and they got it very very quickly. So fast in fact once they have the permits they wanted to do the work the next day. We agreed to do that and the crew showed up the next morning on time. Everything was done very clean and professional. The foreman, Rosario, was very friendly and made sure he was doing the curb cut in the correct location. He had all documentation I sent to JB. By 9AM they were nearly half way finished with job. Everything went by very smoothly and the workers worked straight through. We had to insist that they stop and have some breakfast which we offered. Can't work on empty stomachs! Joe also kept in close contact with his foreman and how everything was looking. I'm very please that Joe makes sure I'm happy with the work as well. Really can't ask for anything more. By 1PM that afternoon all the work was complete and the concrete was starting to set. Very nice experience overall and really can't ask for anything better. We are going to use JB in the future to repave the actual driveway. Previous contractor did a horrendous job, which words cannot describe here. I hope this review helps others looking for legal curb cuts in NYC.

I own property in Brooklyn and in Queens and hire a lot of contractors regularly, so i am more than seasoned in dealing with the average contractor and the delays and hassles that go along with being a property owner and needing constant repairs. Originally I received an estimate from a local concrete installer (not J.B Construction), who was very reasonably priced. I was not ready to pull the trigger because ,well frankly, the language that contractor spoke was not very clear and my job had some facets that could be complicated ( framing around floor vents, and working in front of garages ,where my tenants make their lively hood) I was unsure if the first contractor understood what i needed done 100%. I have been in that situation numerous times (where there has been mis- communication ,which resulted in mistakes). The price though was good. Something told me to look on Angie's List for a second opinion/ estimate. I saw J.B construction was the top rated company in this field,so i through the dice and had them come out to look at the job. First, to start the owner Joe called me back very fast and i met with him the next morning. He was on time and arrived in a spic and span truck , ( i new i was dealing with a quality company , because -my opinion- if the person you hire respects there property ,they more than likely will respect yours). Joe gave me an estimate after 5 minutes on the spot. Now truth be told he was a little higher priced (about 10%). However he had a can do attitude, and was very confident that no matter the complication ,it would be "NO PROBLEM', he spoke clearly and i had no doubt that there was no communication issues. He knew the importance of finishing this job in 1 day as a priority for my tenants business' (I truly believe it would have taken anyone else 3 days, so i was pushing my luck with a one day request). He sent a huge crew over and busted it out -from demolition ,concrete removal, framing and repoured all the concrete ( and it was a lot of sidewalk) he rebuilt the stoop for the front entrance and the side entrance, and was done by 5;30. I looked real good when my tenants saw how i organized all this seamlessly. And in the end the small difference in the price (10%) was insignificant for this kind of quality. You would have to be wet behind the ears not to know you get what you pay for, and in my eyes he gave me a bargain. I will use J.B construction for other work in the future as I know they handle all types of exterior and interior work. Great work!!!
Description of Work: He broke up ,removed, and reinstalled approximately 900 square feet of sidewalk concrete. He also rebuilt 2 small stoops, out of brick and bluestone.

JB General Contracting did an amazing job! I needed exterior work (new sidewalk because of a city violation) as well as interior work (remove an 18,000 BTU air conditioner from the wall, brick the opening, and drywall walls & ceiling in our living room & stairwell. The walls were in very bad condition because of Hurricane Sandy. After I placed the initial call to JB General Contracting on 5/3/2013 Joe called me back on my cell as requested. Joe asked me what I needed. I explained and he told me that he would come out and take a look and give me an estimate. He did. He was direct, specific and helpful ? he told me that I really didn?t need an entire new ceiling or entire new walls. He said that he would open up enough to determine if I did. He sent me a free estimate via email. His price was very reasonable. I contracted with him. I am very glad that I did. His men showed up right on time when he said they would and got to work immediately. Each of the guys took pride in their work and it showed with a great final product (outside & inside). They took their time but were very methodical, paying close attention to detail. They finished the job (outside & inside) in four days. Joe called me the evening the job was completed. He asked me if I was happy with his work. Absolutely! I told him two neighbors already asked me for his number. The sidewalk, living room, and stairwell came out beautiful. These guys did great work and were professional throughout the process. I have already recommended them to three more neighbors. If you need a general contractor then JB General Contracting is the company for you to call. I highly and strongly recommend JB General Contracting without any reservation!

Everything went exactly as planned. He used a big enough crew to complete the job in one day. The sidewalk looks better than it has since we bought the house. And importantly, it no longer poses a danger of tripping. Joe gave a quick estimate and there were no unexpected costs.
Description of Work: Joe Battaglia's crew took up my bluestone side walk, put a new filler layer under it, relayed it and replaced broken stones, and mortared the joints. The job looks terrific.

It went well. His estimate was competitive. The whole job took a total of 4 days. I had the old driveway and walkway removed. The new driveway and walkway were re-cemented and I had cobblestones along the walkway. I also had brick pillars replaced and a new fence installed. Joe's workers also built a flower box with cobblestones which is beautiful. I planted an azalea bush in it and it brightens up the whole front yard. I also had the sidewalk re-cemented. All of this work in 4 days! And it looks terrific. They were clean and efficient. They did beautiful work I am so happy with the results. I would recommend his company to anyone looking to do decorative cement work or just replacing an old sidewalk.
