JB General Contracting

My mother's house is in a landmark area in New York City and there was a sidewalk lien which needed to be removed. There were several slabs around the house, a corner property, with a variety of cracks, splits and lifts from tree roots. I got three estimates and eventually hired JB Contracting because, even though they were the most expensive, they were the only company that seemed to fully understand what was required for the job so that the lien could be removed. For this kind of work in a landmark area, NYC requires a NYC permit and a Landmarks Preservation Department permit. The city also requires the cement to be a specific composition and a specific depth depending on if it's simply sidewalk or part of a driveway. The other two companies I got estimates from recommended only replacing the slabs the city had cited as damaged while Joe at JB recommended doing the entire sidewalk and curbs. He also said they would apply for the appropriate permits and once approved, work could begin. Within a couple of weeks, to my surprise, the permits were obtained and JB was ready to begin work. The job took two days and another half day for cleanup, patching and filling in gaps between grass at the curb and the new sidewalk. Before hiring them, I shared my concern with Joe about the potential of vandalism once the concrete was poured, and Joe included in the contract that one of his men would stay on guard until the concrete was set. During the pouring of the cement, there were a couple of seams that went around a tree that needed to be straightened and when I pointed it out, the workmen were quick to fix the problem. They even scheduled the job on a day when alternate side of the street parking would make it easier for them to bring in the dumpster and trucks to get the job started. When the job was done, JB also contacted the city to do a dismissal inspection so the lien could be removed. Even though I was hesitant about replacing the entire sidewalk all around the corner, when the job was done, I was glad I took Joe's original recommendation and replaced it all. Doing just the individual slabs would have been a big mistake and probably more costly in the long run. Was the job expensive? Yes it was, but considering the number of guys they had working on the job over the two and a half days, I believe their price was fair. Finally, the lien was removed, the sidewalk looks beautiful, is a pleasure to walk on and I'm pleased with the job JB did.

It went well. The person who did the repair was very polite and worked quickly. I will call them is I need other repairs.

Everything went very well. The project finished mainly on time, the process was less stressful than anticipated and the end result was a beautiful home that we are extremely proud of. JB did a great job & we are thankful that we chose them for this project.

When I first was reading their reviews and saw some of the very large and expensive jobs ($20,000+) they did I initially thought I had the wrong shop based on how small my project was. After calling and speaking with Joe personally all the A ratings make sense. I emailed him a few pictures showing exactly what I needed done and he called me back with a full explanation of what they were going to do, the price, how long it would take, and when it would be done. Everything he said matched up pretty much exactly to how the job went. His guy came out in a snow storm, completed the job, cleaned up, and left things exactly how they were. Will definitely use them again.

They were very good. I found them through Angie's List. I chose them because of their personality and professionalism. They took off my old cement and put down new cement in the yard. They did an excellent job. I never had my yard cemented before and I wanted it cemented so they did that. They put it in blocks or some kind of a style. They were more expoensive than others but I felt that they could do a better job through the way that they said they were going to do it. They went all the way under my deck and I did not think that they were going to do that so I was very pleased. I have not had any issues since they did the job and I am glad that I chose them.

It went very well. The men were hard workers, respectful, polite and professional. They arrived on time every day and put in a full day. They always cleaned up and made sure there was access into the house every evening even though they were working on the stoop. I have received compliments on how good the stoop looks. I would definitely use them again.

Ron and his team were great. Fair quote, responsive, great quality work...everything as promised. I would use them again for another project as they arise.

They were there on time. They did their work efficiently and accurately. They cleaned up after they were done and removed all the debry after they were finished. I would recomend them anytime.

JB also kept us informed about the project progress every morning, and the crew had to work with the weather condition considered we had few rough ones. But JB's team is relentless and sometimes they stayed even after dark to complete the day's work. They are fast and furious, I called them "the fantastic eight". You named them, Tony the foreman helped to guide the project ensuring the project went smoothly and timely. They are all very friendly, polite, hardworking and efficient, this is truly a great team with great mix of skilled professional. They finished our projects in shortly four days, very unbelievable considered the size of the project. And they also very thorough by following up with cleaning the surface of the bricks since the rain ruins with some sand particles. I would definitely hire them back for future projects since I love the results so much. Thank you so much by transforming our front and backyard. The work is beautifully done. Now we have can finally enjoy our house and yard. Thanks for the team's hard work!!!

JB General Contracting was hired by myself to replace the sidewalk surrounding my apartment building. The job was quite intricate as it required permits to be pulled for replacing sidewalks on two separate streets, being that the apartment building is on a corner. They also had to be mindful of the entryway to the subway station. They removed the sidewalk and replaced it with great attention to detail. JB General Contracting even went so far as to place a person to watch the newly laid concrete into the night to insure that the concrete would not be tampered with. Overall, I was more than satisfied with the service and end product. JB General Contracting was professional, thorough and timely.

We needed to completely redo the area in the front of our recently purchased house. Joe was very helpful during the discussion of the job in presenting various options and the prices of each. His crew arrived on time, cleaned up after each days work and did a thorough and excellent job. Joe was in regular communication about the progress of the work and responded promptly to any concerns. We noticed one small problem after the job was completed and someone was back the next day taking care of it. Overall, they did an excellent job and we plan to use them again in the Spring for a new driveway.

I received an estimate on 11/25/2013; I needed the work to be done promptly because of the weather. I was accommodated, and the work was done on the following day. Joe called a few minutes before 7:00 am to tell me the workers would arrive in a few minutes. They did, punctually. Everyone behaved in a friendly and professional manner. They seem to enjoy what they do, and take great pride on a job well done. The walkway looks beautiful; I couldn't be more pleased. I certainly will use them again, and I recommend them enthusiastically.

We had gotten a Notice of Violation from the lovely DOT that we had to repair a number of Sidewalk Flags. This was in Aug. 2012. The DOT gives you 45 days to answer the Violation if not they put a lien on your property. Fast forward to June of this year. We put our house on the market, and of course the lien showed up. We had done our due diligence to look for a contractor who had high marks in this kind of work. JB General Contracting kept popping up. We called and within 1hr. Joe the owner called us back. We made an appt. with Joe to come over and give us an estimate on the work to be done. He arrived a few minutes earth, and I showed him the Notice of Violation. He counted and measured the work to be done. It came to nice round number of $5000.00. Upon further examination of the Preliminary Inspection Report we saw on the very bottom of the page was a line marked Curb Condition. It stated that 170' was Defective. So our estimate went from a mere $5000.00 to another nice round number of $11000.00. ( i should have done my homework, cause after it was done I later found out the the curb was the Cities responsibility,That was as they say MY BAD). We signed the contract and the work commenced on time. The workers were very professional, each man had a job and they did it a very timely manner. You could tell that this crew had been doing this type of work for quiet a while by the way it was orchestrated. The work site was left clean everytime the crew left. The finished job needless to say was Excellent. We then needed a certificate of completion from the city which Joe was nice enough to obtain for use in a very hurry up situation. The staff i spoke to at the office were always most helpful and caring. All things considered JB General Contracting is an Excellent Company that does Excellent work.

Joe had stated that it would probably take 2 days to complete the sidewalks for myself and my neighbor when he came out to meet with me. It took only one day which was great!! It was nice to know that a business owner still takes pride in his work and reputation and I would definitely call him for future work. Joe's office staff was very helpful and courteous with my questions. They were knowledgeable of the business and were easily accessible.

These guys are fantastic. Everyone from J&J office staff to several construction crews to Joe are friendly, prompt, courteous, skilled, hard-working and very professional. They have completed all the projects exactly as promised, and have also done several small odd jobs in the backyard free of charge. They have also left our garage, driveway, the street in front of our house and even the cars parked on that street sparkling clean at the end of construction. My newly paved driveway and sidewalk look great, and installation quality is very high. I am glad I used professionals whose craftsmanship will last and look good for many years.

I have never written a review before but felt compelled to join the many who sing the praises of JB Contracting. From the initial call to owner Joe Battaglia to his follow up call to make sure all went well and I was happy, the process went as smoothly as I could have hoped for. Joe showed up on time and gave an accurate estimate. His crew showed up as scheduled prepared with the necessary personnel and equipment to handle the job. It was like watching a well orchestrated Broadway show going through a well rehearsed performance as they tore up the old concrete and prepared the forms for the new concrete. Even when a problem with an underground electric conduit pipe, installed improperly by the previous owner, was ripped up by mistake, the issue was resolved without a hitch. Tony, foreman extraordinaire, had a qualified electrician there within a half hour. The electrician installed a new underground electric conduit while the rest of the crew worked around him. There was no finger pointing or extra charges and the work proceeded on schedule. After the new concrete work was in place, a two day process, a crew showed up to cut the lines into the new concrete, a process that helps eliminate future cracking and giving the new concrete a more finished look. The also repaired all cracks and holes in the foundation and coated the foundation with a special sealer that should help with any moisture and water issues. Following that process they power washed everything in sight including my neighbors property and the street. Finally Joe coordinated the installation of the fencing along the new driveway which came out as planned and looks very good. The finished job has improved the safety and look of my home and I am sure the value as well. I could not recommend JB Contracting any higher and will surely use them for future contracting work.

Always on time, meticulous, answered all my questions, took all my questions, worked from morning through the evening, checked up regularly to make sure I was satisfied. It was a very efficient and professional job.

After reviewing the contractors on the list I went with JB Contracting because of the many positive reviews. I called them on Sept.24th and left a message. Joe called me back within the hour and came down on the 26th to measure and provide an estimate which he did. I went to his office on Oct. 1st. and left him a deposit. Joe came again to do the final measurements and told me that they would start on Monday the 21st. I told him that my concern was my daughter's wedding on Nov. 16th, that I couldn't have the front of the house a wreck. He told me the job would be completed in 4 days. I was a little skeptical. Monday a full crew showed up and started the job. Let me say that I am 60 years old and before I retired I supervised as few as 2 men up to 20. I have to say that I've seen very few men work the way that Joe's guys do. The driveway, walkway, side stoop and front railings were removed. The driveway, front walk, side walkway, front stoop and side stoop were finished in 2 days. On Wedneday the pavers were installed. The columns were also installed but couldn't be completed because of them having the wrong bottom caps. The side door and storm door had to be ordered. The storm door and caps were delivered to my house on the following Tuesday. I e-mailed Joe and made arrangements to install them on Thursday. Thursday morning two men were here working on the columns, side exterior door and storm door. The columns had to be removed to put the new caps on and the side door had to be reframed because they had to get a standard 30" door to replace the 28" that was there. When they were finished they cleaned up, touched up a few spots on the columns and patched a few spots where leaves made an impression on the wet concrete. His guys do a great job. You can see that that take pride in what they do. Joe also put me in touch with someone to do my railings. A few times we made changes to what was to be done and it was never a problem. Through all of the construction if Joe didn't stop by he called me to make sure everything was ok. He was in touch with me constantly by e-mail or phone. He also stretched out the cost over four payments which I thought was great. I think his attention to detail and making sure that his customer is satisfied is amazing in this day and age. I would definitely use him again and would highly recommend his company.

Joe was great and his crew did an excellent job. Very professional and straight forward from the start. I will definitely use them in the spring to finish the rest of the pointing and stucco work.

This very professional contractor swiftly responded to my inquiry, inspected the job the next day, provided a detailed proposal, insurance certificate, building permit and made customer revisions on request. The job (15,000) square feet was then scheduled, payment agreed to....and then Commenced ahead of time. Remarkably they finished the whole job in ONE DAY!!!!!. The contractor put together a team including a foreman, arrived with all the necessary equipment, removed and replaced the old concrete( 4-7 inches thick) carted it all away, installed forms, stone gravel base, steel reinforcements and poured new 3000 pound concrete. throughout the job. The cement was floated over tamped gravel sections which were fitted with expansion joints, broom brushed and they even stayed on the job until dry to prevent graffiti! They came back the next day and power washed the curb and street to remove any cement residue from the site!..... ALL IN ALL THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST JOBS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN 45 YEARS AS A PROPERTY OWNER. Crew arrived promptly. Foreman explained exactly what they were going to do and made some suggestions to which I agreed. Work was done very professionally. At the conclusion of the work, foreman showed me completed job, detailed everything they had done and asked me if it met with my satisfaction. They crew left the place very clean. JB General Contracting was excellent to deal with and I would recommend them highly.

I called JB to come out and look at repairing my rear retaining wall that had a couple of what seemed to be "compromised" areas. After taking a look at the wall and pointing out several things Joe told me that the wall was fine structurally and any repairs made to it would be mainly cosmetic. I appreciated his honesty and am glad that I don't have to fork over thousands of dollars to fix something that doesn't really warrant fixing at this time.

I called Joe on a Thursday and said I need to replace my sidewalk. He had me take pictures of it and I gave him the square footage (200 with a tree cut out and a gas cap in the ground). He gave me a quote and said alternate side parking rules were in our favor the next day, Friday. He expidited the permits and the next morning his guys came at 9:00 am. By the time they broke for lunch at 1:30 the job was done! The surface was dry by dinner time. It was amazing to have this issue that I've been thinking about for 6 months over and done with in a day. All the superintendents on the block watched and assured me they did a very good job.

.Joe showed up on time after I called for an estimate. The job was done faster than I expected as Joe was already working in my area. I was pleased with the appearance of the new slab and the fence and gate was installed the following day. I am very happy with the results and would recommend JB Contracting to anyone

Excellent from start to finish. Joe responded to my call immediately. Very responsive team. He got me a quick estimation and was willing to work around my schedule (had to wait for the city to repair the street before he could do the work). Once I was ready he contacted me to give me a date that he would start and checked in with me after the work was completed to make sure that I was pleased with the job. Would not hesitate to use him again!
