We had a good experience with JB contracting. They were not the least expensive option, but we went with them because we needed the work done quickly and they seemed very professional in the bidding process. We got exactly what we were hoping for in paying a higher price for the work. They were able to start sooner than they even quoted us initially, and worked on Saturdays which sped the job up considerably. They were also able to send a large crew on the first day and get the lintel replaced right away, which was a major issue at that point. Joe contacted us before each process began and, though not as responsive and communicative as I would like, was far superior to every other general contractor we have worked with. The only issue we actually had was that there was no-one working one day during the course of the job and we would have preferred a phone call to let us know in advance. It wasn't a big deal, really. Their workers are very nice, helpful, professional, and did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. The result is as good as we could have expected. We were extremely pleased that they were able to tear up the sidewalk and complete it by the afternoon of the next day, having been annoyed by some sidewalks near us being left torn up for days before completion. All in all a good experience and we will definitely be using JB Contracting for future work.
Description of Work: New sidewalk, tuck pointing entire back of house, replaced one lintel, and copping on balcony

What I really liked about this company was that Joe actually came to my home himself to do the estimate, he quoted me a price right on the spot and the price did bit change one cent. J&B did the job on the date they set for the price they quoted. Bart and his crew were very diligent in their work and were very pleasant to my wife and neighbors. As a new homeowner with many projects ahead I now have a trustworthy and honest contractor to work with in the future. Thank you for a job well done J&B!!!!!!

I called JB to repair one of my front steps, which had become cracked over the winter. Joe came out promptly to look at the steps. He ended up repairing not only the one I had called about, but several others which were also damaged although less obviously. I was impressed that Joe and crew did the repairs on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, while I was out of town. They brought their own generator, and therefore did not need me to let them into the house for an electric outlet. The steps are good as new now.

I hired this contractor because of the positive reviews on Angies List and because he is local. At first I felt the estimate was way over what I expected to spend. However, after conferring with my husband who believes in quality work, we decided to hire them. We did not make a mistake. The crew started working the very next week, removing the very thick existing concrete, rapidly filling two giant dumpsters in about two days. They also proceeded to remove a 10 x 22 ft area of grass in the back to create a lovely patio just outside my kitchen. They created a 10 x 13 ft platform on which a storage shed was to be built. They provided the beautiful pavers which I myself chose from their catalog, as well as cobblestones to line the edges. They provided good water drainage by digging and installing a 4 inch pipe towards the street. Because it took longer than anticipated to complete the job due to bad weather, Joe B. did not charge me for installing a concrete platform for my central air condenser and one split unit. I thought that was very fair and kind of him. One very special observation I made was the skill of his crew and the joy they showed despite the difficult job and warm or very cold conditions. You could hear them laughing and telling stories to each other while they continued to work. They showed how much they enjoyed their work and never showed a frowning face, even when they were covered with dust! I also observed that this company owned everything they used, from dumpsters to large and heavy equipment. This is truly their specialty and I am very grateful to Angies List for allowing us to make wise decisions when we hire contractors.

My front porch has been leaking into my garage and boiler room for a while now. My front steps and brickwork were falling apart. Shabby work done from previous friend of a friend contractor. My front windows were taking on water also, which was ruining my interior walls. So I was in the market for a real contractor. After reading alot of reviews on Angies list I chose JB General contractors. I called Joe and he came to my house the next day. I told him what I needed done, he then expained in detail how he would do it . A day or two later he gave me an itemized contract that broke down all aspects of the job and the costs. At first I felt the price was a little high. But I decided to sign the contract and stop dealing with contractors that dont stand by the work that they do. The crew showed up on time and began working. Starting off with a lot of demolition the first few days on the front porch. They were very thorough. After the demo of the front porch they put a waterproof membrane to seal the porch from further leaks. They then tiled the porch with 1" bluestone flags. Rain was my only real complaint with this job, it delayed the job a couple of days. No B.S stories about why they couldn't come to work that day they were there everyday unless it was raining. I am very pleased with the work that Joe's crew did. They were very receptive to any and all of my concerns. They always kept the worksite as clean as you could for a worksite. They were very respectfull to my family and nieghbors. If and when I had an issue with any of the work being done, they made the neccessary changes to make me & my wife totally satisfied. They also did a few small jobs at no charge just to make sure we were completely satisfied. And the new porch looks "great" and has held up to a few heavy rains already proving the work performed is quality. I will use JB contractors again. I will refer Joe and his guys to family & friends, whoever.
Description of Work: Replaced old limestone steps (9) with new bluestone threads. Chopped out old leaky front porch 10'x8' and replaced with bluestone (tiles) flags. Replacement of large lintel over front windows. Removal of two raillings from old steps and reinstalled them on new bluestsone threads.

My sidewalk and part of the driveway had been heaved up by the winter weather (and the roots of my maple tree) to the point where it was a hazard for people walking past. I checked Angie's List and found JB Contractors. I called and made arrangements to have an estimate. Mr. Battaglia came the same day to take measurements, and e-mailed me a contract with the estimate. The work was done very promptly and efficiently. The driveway looks wonderful. I am very pleased with the work.
Description of Work: JB General Contracting redid part of my driveway, including the sidewalk, up to the street. In addition, they redid the portion of my neighbor's walk that abutted the driveway.

Dear member, I want to apologize for the misunderstanding but when you called and requested a specialized type flooring that we do not do I took it upon myself to recommend a company that we have dealt with in the past for you as a recommendation as you seemed quite happy to accept during our lengthy conversation as we have no control over a recommended specialist as far as his delay in getting back to you a day later is not our direct fault as you have stated in your open comments here on Angies list but however we are glad that you chose to call our company first and we look forward to serving you in the future. I contracted JB Contractors to install a new sidewalk, driveway and walkways in May, 2013. The job came out beautiful when completed. However, with this servere winter, there was damage to the concrete in the driveway. (The pavers are just as beautiful as when installed.) I contacted the Owner, Joe Batiglia, and he remedied the situation quickly, by replacing the slabs of the driveway that was damaged. He went beyond the scope of the waranty that covers cracking. I would recommend JB Contractors (100-02 Altantic Avenue, Ozone Park, NY 11416) to anyone looking to beautify the outside of their homes. Deborah Ford

After several unsuccessful efforts to obtain a contractor who would do the work according to our needs, I reached out to JB General Contracting because of the good reviews they had received on Angie's List. Joe from JB General Contracting returned my telephone call within hours and we made an appointment to survey the work two days later. Joe arrived ahead of time for the appointment and after a discussion of what we needed to have done, he promised an estimate either that day or the next. The estimate was provided within 24 hours (on a Saturday), and I advised the company that we were willing to accept the proposal several days later. After signing the contract and paying the required deposit (roughly one-third of the price), JB got to work immediately. (Indeed, my only "complaint" is that I was not advised that they would be starting so soon.) By the time I found out that they were on the job, they had completed the backfill which posed a problem because we still needed an inspection of a pipe that had been covered up. In fact, it posed no problem because the workmen immediately set to work to uncover the necessary portion of the backfill so that the inspection could occur several days later. Once the inspection had been done, I advised Joe and they were there the very next day to complete the work including the concrete with aggregate. The most impressive part of the work was the fact that they were able to match the look of the existing concrete which was quite old and had what looked like bluestone in the aggregate mix. We had been unable to find a contractor willing to try to do that. JB managed to find matching aggregate and then treated the concrete after it was poured to give it a more weathered look. We are thoroughly pleased with the finished product.
Description of Work: Backfilled an excavation, and laid a 7 by 15 foot slab of wire-reinforced concrete (4 inches, 4000 PSI) with aggregate over the backfill to match existing concrete.

Dear member, I find this review a bit confusing especially after we spoke several times on the phone contemplating different options of restoration of the front stone fascade of your home which varied greatly as I tried to meet your budget and secondly giving us a "B" rating on quality when we never actually performed any work on your home seems a bit unjustified towards my company however I hope to be able to serve you in the near future if you decide to use our services. The guy showed up an hour late, just to give me several HIGH estimates in less than 3 minutes. The guy (I don't remember his name) walked to my backyard and DID NOT MEASURE ANYTHING, he just EYE BALLED and guessed the length and width of the job that I wanted to get done (his guess was way off). This is totally unprofessional, you you should come to a job site prepared, especially for an estimate. His quotes for all the work (fix retaining wall and pour new concrete approx. 600 square feet) that I wanted to get done were all EXTREMELY HIGH. He showed up an hour late and spent no more than 3 minutes at my house. I will not use this company for any future jobs. This was a waste of my time. NEVER AGAIN!

Joe showed up on time took a look at what had to be done...took some pics of the roof and the back yard plus all his measurements needed for the job and told me he would email me the quote in a couple of days. It was a very stressful experience from the beginning. I had some argument with them and they came to repair it. They had come repaired a portion of the work. This was two separate jobs and one of it they would have to come and redo. So far, this one is good but I have cracks in the driveway when it was done in October and in January, I had another crack. So I called them and he said he was going to come in and check on it. I don’t know when he is coming. Maybe the concrete wasn’t good or they added too much water, I don’t know. I wasn’t satisfied with the driveway at all. I chose them because I saw about five or six reviews on Angie’s List and everything had an A rating. They told me something else about the driveway originally and when we came, it was a different one so I had to call them and he said that is what was in the contract so that is what they had to do. The supervisor there didn’t have the contract with him, so he didn’t know what he was supposed to do and then they did stone work and it was fully done because they did the concreting before putting in water, so that they had to redo. When the driveway was finished, it cracked. However, he said he is coming but I don’t know what he is going to do. A concrete driveway is supposed to last long but in four months, it cracked already. The quality of work was poor. I had to even show him pictures from the internet to show how to fix it. However, when I complained and went nuts over it, he came right away.

Met with Ron, the estimator beginning in early December 2013, who worked up an estimate for the work to be done, namely the demolition of walls and a bathroom, as well as created a 2nd exit for the space as per fire code. Estimate came in a bit higher than other contractors, but I had worked with JB previously at my home and felt more comfortable with them, because they are a "one stop shop," meaning they have a ton of highly skilled contractors and subcontractors that work for them that they coordinate. JB was very conscientious about my desire to not do any work without permits, and they worked seamlessly with my expeditor to make sure as soon as we did have permits, we'd get right to work. All in all, the job only took about 3 weeks to complete, including waiting for an asbestos abatement to pull permits. JB took care of all the electrical and HVAC work that was needed, as well as very specific instructions for the construction of the common walls (for soundproofing, we used a staggered stud, double wall construction, which entails framing two separate walls with a gap between them, two full layers of sound bat insulation, and 4 total layers of 5/8" sheetrock with a product called Green Glue applied between layers). Their framing, sheetrock and mud/tape guys were all AMAZING. They literally (LITERALLY) had the space framed in a day, and sheetrocked in a day. My mind was BLOWN. My project manager Eric was always willing to let me bend his ear, and unlike other contractors I've worked with, was physically on-site during every phase of the job to make sure everything was being done according to plans and at the highest level of quality possible. He would answer texts from me at 11 at night, and if he didn't know the answer to something, he would bust his hump to get the answer as quickly as possible. He's a real asset to JB Contracting, and inspires confidence at every turn. He's also a solid hang when you're not discussing the job at hand. To be honest, all the workers are, too. Chances are you'll come across Eddie if you hire JB for a job...if you're lucky. He's one of the hardest working and funniest guys out there, and his knowledge of a number of different trades is astounding. Long short, I'm happy to have any of the guys from JB Contracting on my side. If I have one complaint, it's that the electricians did not heed my advice to pipe electrical from the hallway into the rooms. I wanted to do it this way because I didn't want any perforations in the common walls between rooms, because that would cause sound transfer and nullify some of the soundproofing. I told them I wanted it done this way when the walls were still just framed, but once I realized they did not plan to do this, It was too late, because the walls had been closed up. It's a minor complaint, and I was able to spray foam the holes they left. It's not a perfect solution, but nobody seems too bent out of shape about it, so I'm happy. I'm happy to chalk it up to either miscommunication or me not being assertive enough. All in all, another fantastic job done thoroughly and efficiently by my now go-to guys for any work I think I can't handle alone. If you need it done right yesterday, these are the guys to call for anything you can think of.
Description of Work: Full demolition of commercial space, creation of 6 soundproofed music rehearsal rooms. Updated electrical and HVAC systems, minor plumbing.

They did it within a month. We had to pay extra for a fancier door. They did everything in one shot and with the same crew. The guy that we dealt with was named Joe and he was really good. I would use them again.
Description of Work: JB General Contracting tore down the old roof and one of the walls on our garage. They re-did the wall and put on a new roof. They painted the brick and put in a new garage door.

The basement was swept up and ready for Joe's crew. Joe and his crew arrived at 8 am on Wednesday as scheduled. They went straight to work and by 10:30 the concrete was poured. His crew did a great job. Because of the weather they had to put a heater on to dry the concrete. By 3:30 pm, the concrete floor was finished and it looked great. His crew cleaned everything up. I would hire Joe and his men again. I liked the way Joe approached the job I wanted to do. He answered all my questions and suggested what I had to do to put heating in the floor before pouring the concrete. He is very personable and I liked the fact that he was honest in his dealings with me. We agreed on a price and that is what I paid. I am very satisfied with his work and his crew as well. I certainly would recommend his company to anyone who needs a contractor.
Description of Work: My 600 sq.ft. basement was wrecked due to Sandy. I was now ready to start the work to redo the basement. I wanted a concrete floor so I needed someone to give me an estimate of how much concrete needed to be poured, how long it would take and the cost. I called several places and Joe answered my call. We arranged an appointment last week. He came and answered all my questions and told me what was needed to complete the job. A few days later, I signed the contract, set up the date and time.

They were GREAT to work with on the demolition, removal, and all the odd little details that cropped up because of the ca. 1848 adjacent stonework and railings. I had to chase the office a little bit to verify that the violation removal paperwork had gone through... not their fault, the city takes a while to confirm. Not only was the finished work technically clean, they went out of their way to finish it in a way that would agree with the style of the building! An exceptional level of care for concrete work.
Description of Work: Replaced the sidewalk in front of my townhouse in Manhattan.
