This is my second time using them, first time a few years back it was great so I thought we'd give it another try. They NO-SHOWED to 3 scheduled appointments with no apology, only calling days later to reschedule. Rarely pick up the phone, even more rarely return calls left with their answering service. When I requested an ETA and a confirmation that they are in fact, coming (for what turned into the 3rd no show) the receptionist left me an annoyed message from a private number. Save your money and your sanity!

Horribly! There were major flaws in the work performed. It took a long time to get a person to respond to my calls. When follow up appointments were scheduled, they didn't show twice. The third time they showed up and made minimal repairs to improve the situation, but it the final product was less than perfect. i would never use this business again and don't recommend them.

Aweful! Did terrible job in first place. Obvious places where water was going to seep into space between chimney and roof. Would it send someone out to even look at it until fighting with them for over 6 months. They made appointments to send servicemen to house and didn't show up on three occasions. Had to take off from work to meet them and didn't even have courtesy to call to cancel/reschedule. Owner would not return phone calls. Their price was cheaper than many quotes, but sometimes you get what you pay for. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

Address: 2014 Ridge Rd City: Ontario State/County: NY Zip/Postal Code: 14559 Business Phone Number: (585) 621-2770 URL: Customer Service Issues Problem: I contracted Sparks Monroe Heating & Chimney Company to clean my chimney in May 2017. While doing that work it was discovered that a new flue and crown were needed, and those two items were installed. Shortly after the work was completed water began to leak down the living room wall above the fireplace causing the paint to bubble. Since I did not have a leak in the roof or around the chimney before the work was done, I contacted the Company. The office manager took the information and said that the owner of company would get back in touch about my concern. I contacted them on several occasions over the period of a month because no one returned my call. The problem with my wall continued to worsen on the wall, in the fireplace and on floor. Finally, after insisting that someone address this issue, the owner of the company came out to assess the situation. He appeared to be agitated and was confrontational about being contacted. He offered a few suggestions about what the problem might be but, to my knowledge he did not go on the roof to assess it. He appeared to get more agitated as my concern about the damage in the house and his lack of attention to my calls were discussed. He then left abruptly and offered no assistance for helping solve the issue. At first, I thought that the owners son from this company did a good job, but as time went on I realized that I was mistaken. The water leak has caused much damage in the house, damage that was not there before this Sparks Monroe Company was involved. Sparks Monroe Heating & Chimney 2014 Ridge Rd. Ontario NY, does not appear to guarantee their work. I would not recommend this company
Description of Work: I had my chimney cleaned and with further inspection needed a new damper and crown which the work was done and nice timely manner. The company was paid in full but when water damaged appeared above the firepalce wall and water in fireplace Sparks Monroe would not return call even when I was told the owner would get in touch with me.

They did their service with a smile while stealing us blind. We could never bring charges since, technically, 'anyone' could have done it.
Description of Work: Got a new furnace installed a few years back when the old one began to leak and rust. While they came in a timely fashion, they A) left junk and trash everywhere, despite two trashcans in their workspace B)stole a lightbulb from us. Minor, but they just... unscrewed the lightbulb and took off with it. They didn't ask. We heard them talking about their light being out. Could have just asked. C)other items from our garage turned up missing after they were. Tools, mainly. Like...within hours we noticed things gone after they left. D)our debit card had mysterious charges on it an hour after they left, not furnance related. Had to get a new debit card. Reading others concerns on the BBB, it seems stealing is common with them.

I purchased a Groupon for this service and the people at Spark's were friendly and curtious upon the first call. They provide you with a 4 hour window which forced me to take 1/2 day vacation. Three hours in to my window they called to indicate they wouldn't make it that day. I was upset because, as a newly single Mom, I don't have a lot of vacation time to use. I rescheduled and they pulled the EXACT SAME THING on me again. Because I had a Groupon and I was somewhat "stuck" with them, I schedule yet a 3rd time and they indicated they would arrive between 8am and noon. I indicated I have a 12pm meeting and they assured me that because I had been canceled twice, this time they would make sure to fit me in. I called this morning and was informed they would be arriving at my house at noon. When I reminded them of our conversation, I was shocked at the horrible and unprofessional level of communication they chose to use. They indicated that this situation is my fault and they will no longer honor my Groupon. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am a very calm person, rarely complain, and I have never written a review before but this was so bad that I have taken every step to make sure no one else falls in to this trap. Do not use this company!

I am the owner of this company and I would first like to point out that this customer apparently lives in Andover NY which is not in our service area at all. Secondly I would also Like to point out that a window appointment is very standard practice , unfortunately we are at the mercy of all sorts of circumstances beyond our control like traffic ,weather or even un foreseen problems on jobs . we service over 3000 homes per year and most of our customers reasonably understand how problems can occur and know that we would stay at their home until the problem is resolved. usually they don't want us to rush through anyones job because they wouldn't want us to rush through theirs. I am sorry we couldn't meet your scheduling requirements . I would always suggest the best times for routine maintenance is spring and early fall this is when demand is lowest. I had a groupon for a furnace inspection. Our appointment was made well in advance, but the office staff called to cancel the day of, claiming people who were without heat needed service calls. (it was 70 degrees outside...) I suppose this should have been my first red flag... When the service tech did show up, he was late, as in 15 minutes after the end of the four hour appointment window. I knew he was coming though, because he called, asking for directions. Although his truck appeared to need some work, he got right to work, and for all I know he did his job well. He gave us recommendations about the furnace function and provided a written report. At this point, I would have given them a B. I am perhaps too generous, too understanding, too willing to give a person/company the benefit of the doubt. But now that I've spent a few more minutes in my basement near my furnace, I'm not very happy. You see, my equipment looks like a bright orange Sparks Monroe billboard. There are four stickers covering my furnace/a-c/water-heater. This was just a furnace inspection. And this company has NEVER been to my home before. The stickers are directly on top of my prior service records, covering both the record of service and the contact information for the three other companies that have serviced these systems. He even covered the information about who INSTALLED the water heater. Having bought this home just two years ago, I relied on having that historical information there. Fellow Listers, I am at a loss. Unprofessional is not the right word--this just seems so childish. What could they hope to accomplish by covering up a 15-year service record? Why would they bother grafitti-ing over contact information for Betlem and Gatti? It's not like I can't just look that up. It's almost laughable. Is that company policy or an irresponsible employee? They've accomplished the opposite. I will never call them again. I will gladly tell all of my neighbors and friends to avoid them. Our experience with Betlem last year was completely professional, and they will get our future HVAC business. The Groupon savings were not worth it.

First I would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review of my company , second I would like to address some of the statements you made in your review you stated that we had to delay your appointment due to no heat service calls . This is our company policy and standard trade practice imagine going to the doctors for a routine physical and someone accidentally cuts their finger off the routine physical gets delayed just as a no heat takes priority over maintenance your statement that it was 70 degrees doesn't address that the low that day was 41* as you can verify by clicking on this link . [hyperlink removed] . nor does it take into consideration that in November in Rochester the weather can change in a NY minute. as far as the technician arriving late we do our best to arrive in the appointed window or call to notify about tardiness however we are at the mercies of many factors out of our control. Traffic weather , unforeseen problems on a job etc. Lastly it is the policy of every company in the HVAC industry to put stickers on equipment in basements and to cover their compettitors stickers with their own I am happy to see that my technician followed the policy in this regards . Description of Work: Dave, the technician cleaned the furnace as agreed. However, he claimed my Ignitor was going bad as well as the blower motor. He quoted a price of $181 on the ignitor. I found the actual wholesale price was $40. He thought the motor was about $500, and I found the wholesale was $220. Both items had to be ordered, so I gave a deposit of $97.74 which was for cleaning and the price of the ignitor which he didn't have. | |When I learned of the high markup in part prices, I called their office and asked for a refund of my deposit. I was told the manager was out for a couple days and would call back. Did not receive a call back, I called twice more. They apologized and said they would make sure the manager sees the request today. I am waiting a phone call at this time.

Had a Dave from Sparks come out to check my AC in late May. He said there was probably a leak and suggested he add coolant to see if it would fix the problem. Less than a week later temps hit 85 and I had no AC in the house. Dave came back out and checked the unit and said all of the coolant had leaked out. He gave me a quote for a new AC until. He did deduct the charge for the coolant from the cost for the new AC. But the earliest they could come out was following Monday. NO AC all weekend. The techs that came out were not very professional. My wife heard them arguing a lot. We had Dave come back out a few days later because the unit seemed much louder than promised and there was frost on the outside fittings. He suggested we replace the furnace air filter which I did a couple of days later. We have not had too many really hot days since the first weekend, but on days when the temp and humidity were higher, we did not feel like the AC was working right. I called first thing on Thursday morning, because Dave suggested I call on next hot day. They could not send somebody until Friday. Afternoon temps hit 80 on Thursday, inside temp in house was 78 and there was no cold air coming out of the registers. The outside unit was running all day and the night before, but never caught up with the 73 degree setting. I went downstairs to check it out and there was condensation EVERYWHERE. The coolant line even had a block of ice on it. The new air filter I installed was drenched as was the rug on the floor. I called Sparks and they STILL could not send anyone until Friday. Dave came out at 10AM Friday morning and he checked the coil and said the whole thing had to be re-installed. He told me that the installer could not come back until Monday. It is going to be in the mid 80's this weekend and WE WILL HAVE NO AC. Again, they new there was an issues as I called after it was installed once before. I called them again on Thursday morning and I HAVE TO WAIT TO THE FOLLOWING MONDAY FOR THEM TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE THAT WAS THEIR FAULT!!!!!!! AND, I have to ask myself if they voided the warranty by not installing the unit properly in the first place. I have had this company clean my furnace and they even replaced a hot water tank with no issues. But the service on the AC unit that was not installed properly is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! UPDATE: AC was finally fixed on Monday afternoon by Ryan from Sparks. Ryan also installed my hot water tank this year and did a really good job. He had to replace the coil compartment but the unit now works very well. Ryan and his partner apologized for my trouble. Problem is, they had nothing to apologize for, as they did not cause the problem. I was treated like a second class citizen by the office manager and the owner of the company would not even speak to me. I never received an apology from them. And I never received a follow up call to check to see if the fix worked. They have lost me as a customer for future business.

After purchasing a $59 voucher on April 10 to have the single chimney on my home inspected & cleaned (purchased on the Angie's website), I scheduled an appointment for April 20 to have the work done. Approx 1 day before the scheduled date, I received a call indicating that the business needed extra time to complete a job in progress and I arranged to re-schedule the work to April 23. However, I received a call the following day and was told that April 23 was not a date that should have been scheduled as it was already committed for other work. I then re-scheduled to April 28. Less than 24 hours prior to that scheduled date I was sent a phone message indicating that add'l time was needed on a prior job. However, I did not receive the message that day and spent the morning of the 28th waiting for the contractor to show up. I finally called the office and was told about the phone message. I made it very clear that I was very disappointed in the scheduling policy/procedure and wanted a firm date for the work to be done. I then set up May 12 as the date. The work crew phoned me approx. 20 min prior to arriving on that date. Once on site, they went about their job in a very efficient manner. I was given a verbal inspection report in which the cracks in the chimney brickwork and chimney cap were indicated along with the flashing separation around the chimney. I opted to have the flashing sealed, which was done with caulking and a waterproof sealer at an add'l cost of $81.
Description of Work: Provider inspected and cleaned the chimney. Found several cracks in chimney brickwork. Noted that chimney flashing had separated from the chimney. I opted to have the flashing sealed, which was done on the same day.

I found the service from an Amazon local ad in Nov 2014. My biggest frustration was that they had to reschedule 3 times after the initial scheduling of the appointment. One of those times was the day of the appointment which was frustrating since I had to take time off work. Each time I was told there was a heating emergency so my low priority job would have to wait. I could understand this happening once but 3 times was ridiculous. The service itself was fine, but they did not tighten the screws on the chimney cap after putting it back on. The cap blew off the chimney on a windy day shortly after. I put it back on myself because I sure wasn't going to wait to schedule another appointment with them to do that.

Sparks Monroe was absolutely awful to deal with and even with a Groupon I can't recommend them. I scheduled a service call with them 2 weeks in advance and had to take time off work because they only offer 4-5 hour windows for service as they are unable to effectively schedule work. I was informed a night before my scheduled appointment at 6PM that they would not be able to keep their appointment with me and it would need to be reschedule another week out. This is totally unprofessional and despite my protests I had to set it up for another date and take another day off work to wait for them. On the day of my second appointment I received a call at around 4:30PM ( my window was between noon and 5PM) from their office saying the technician would be late and wanted to know if I'd like to reschedule. I told them no I will not waster any more of my time off and that I'd wait for their tech which she said would likely be 60-90 minutes out. When the tech showed up I noticed he was there from the sound of tires spinning and loud profanity being screamed in the street. I looked out the window to see the Sparks Ford Transit beached in a driveway on an icy snow pile and the driver screaming motherf****** & bulls*** at the top of his lungs as he slammed his van in reverse and drive repeatedly, spinning his tired and digging himself in deeper. I came out with a shovel to try and help him but he was a total jerk to me and everyone on my street, he was yelling at other drivers who were trying to get around him as he was frantically slamming his van deeper into the snow. I tried to help him dig out anyway and when he "calmed down" (not really) he insisted he would dig the van out with my shovel and proceed to snap my shovel head off at the base as he hacked at the ice. After 25 minutes of digging and pushing I finally got him out and the real fun began. The furnace service consisted of him taking his Home Depot homer bucket with fan top and "cleaning" out the inside of the furnace. He then proceed to try and remove a carbon rod or something and dropped a screw into the furnace and cursed some more. He took out the furnace filter and then never put the duct tape back over it to seal it properly when I told him I change them myself and did not need to buy one from him. When he was writing his notes he clipped his light onto the wiring harnesses used in my furnace which drove me CRAZY. I was worried he would pull them loose and he was also rough with the furnace overall during his inspection. He also had done 0 research into my furnace beforehand and had to reference some pamphlet in his tool bag so I'm pretty sure he was just bluffing his way through this job. It would be nice if the customer service person had asked what kind of furnace I had beforehand so the tech could be prepared but this is a rinky d*** operation that is super unprofessional and I would avoid these guys like the plague.

installed a furnace that was not to proper code. Caused harmful gas and was red tagged. We're unresponsive when contacted about issue. Took 4 days and 8 unanswered phone calls after sending an intoxicated employee out to assess the issue. Was told by him and technician I would not be charged for fix because was not done properly first time. When issue was finally fixed eorker said no labor and parts fr furnace we're going to be charged but needed to pay for a new vent to water heater. I said okay but customer service was to refund me or apply service call from intoxicated employees visit. When he made a call to the office the owner decided to renig on his word and charge for labor, parts to furnace that was improperly installed and service fee. If I didn't pay he would remove all the work done and leave me with no heat and hot water. I also had an offensive voice mail from one of his employees using obscenities on my phone. This is the lost unprofessional business I have ever encountered. He said to the better business bureau that I used offensive language and was unreasonable. This is also a lie. If you read reviews elsewhere you will see similar issues. Don't become a victim and use a reputable company. I regret ever using this business. They won't be around for long with these practices.

I purchased an amazon local gift certificate for a furnace inspect and tune up. I called immediately upon receiving the voucher and was told that the scheduler was out of the office but would call the next day. 5 days went by without a call. I then called to schedule and was told to be home between 12 and 5pm on 11/7 or I would be charged a 25 dollar fee. No one called or arrived to inspect/tune up the furnace. I called at 5pm and was told that I was not on the schedule at all and that someone would be calling me on 11/10 to set up an appointment. This is completely unprofessionally and I will be working to refund my certificate. I would not use this company again.

I like the he actually come out for sort of an emergency situation with the furnace few months ago, he was pretty thorough. I guess I have to wait and see on that, you know, on the duct cleaning, it seems that they didn?t spent as much time as I thought they would have, hopeful the ducts are cleaner, so hard to figure out if they are or aren?t. They did a follow through, they come back to you.

They were chimney sweeps. The chimney was not as dirty as I thought it was, so, they did not really do a lot of cleaning. The one thing I did not like was that I had some ashes in the fireplace itself, and I thought they were going to clean that out, but they did not. I thought the price for the coupon was reasonable. They were here when they said they would be. They seemed fairly fast and attentive to what they were doing. They were very responsive because they came within a few days from the time I called them, and they seemed very professional. I cannot complain about their professionalism.

The owner has a great sales pitch but does not deliver and is not honest,I asked to have a Trane furnace installed they told me a Rheem is just is good when it is not. They did not tell me they are not authorized to install Trane furnaces-good for Trane i wouldn't want this company installing my product either. They took my paymnet for half via credit card immediately processed it then put the job off by a week+. I was promised how much quieter and efficient the new furnce would be it is NOT quieter and the difference in efficiency is negligible. If anyone has an old Fitzgibbons oil burning furnace all i can say is do not replace it until it dies I wish i had. I asked them to credit me until a couple of days before they would start they did not. They said they were clean-they were not and i have lasting damage to my basement floor. They dragged my very large 50 YO oil burning furnace out of my finished basement without a tarp or anything underneath it and got soot all over the floor and did not claen it up until i called. It was impossible to get it all up as i have linoleum tiles down and where it was washed over and over the tiles have now cracked and are coming up the soot is still between the tile seams. When they delivered the new furnace they left it sitting in the furnace workshop room on a dolly and it left rust marks as it was winter it was wet and sat there for over a week as i said they did not start when they said they would. The rust marks came out but there is now a big circle of discoloration on the cement.After the furnace was installed i noticed it was cold in my living room and a bedroom i checked and no heat was coming out of the floor runs-they had forgot to flush and turn those runs back on so yet again they had to come out. Since the installation i had to have AC Smith-who seem to know what they are doing with oil burning furnaces come out witin a couplre of mos and fix/replace the expansion tank and the venting-that still is not right. Monroe actually had the nerve to bill me for visits to clean up their mess and try to make the furnace right. If you are putting in an oil burning furnace do not usde this company.If you are having any other work all i can say is you were warned.I also spoke to a friend who works for Betlem and his elderly aunt and uncle were taking them to court for $800 for some work they had done.They were extremely unprofessional and would not admit any wrongdoing and when i would call to speak with the owner most of the time i could not get the owner to speak to me. There was alot of phone aviodance by them. I would never do business with this company and anything Darren Sparks is doing- He called his business Sparks Monroe.

They did a really good job for me. They told me how much air was leaking out of my house and insulation efficiency. They did a nice job and gave me a written report afterwards. They were here for a couple of hours. They came and figured out how much energy I was using and how much I was wasting, some of the tips weren't really expensive at all. They were extremely informative, they seemed highly professional and well educated. They taught me stuff I had no idea about. It was really, really cool. I had heard an ad and I called them, I think the state pays for the service. I was really thrilled with it and plan to contact them for some of the improvments.

Not well at all!!!!! Do NOT hire Sparks Monroe Heating and Chimney
Description of Work: I am in the process of buying a new home. The last detail on buying the house was the fireplace. It needed chimney work, a new liner in the fireplace and a big gapping hole between the flue and the wall of the chimney to be closed up. I had a chimney inspector out, who happened to be a retired fireman, and he explained the fire hazards and what needed to be fixed. The seller contracted Sparks Monroe Heating and Chimney. When Sparks declared the work to be done I had the work inspected again, before the sale of the house. Sparks did put a new liner in the chimney and fixed the exterior brick, HOWEVER, the most important parts of the job were NOT provided, They did NOT fill in the spaces between the liner and the chimney wall with insulation, it was left open to receive smoke and embers. Also, they did NOT close or fill the gapping hole between the flue and the the wall of the chimney. this is a potential fire hazard via the chimney inspector. I told my realastate agent it looks like they went on top of the roof, slid a metal liner down the chimney and that was it, I could have done that myself and I am a 42 yrs old women with no experience working with chimney's. Know I am a first time home buyer who already gave notice at my apt. because i am/was supposed to close in 1 week. Now I have an issue with the sale of my first ever home, and apt. I have to be out of in less than 8 days all because SPARKS did not do thier job properly. They are supposed to be the experts and the quality of work they profided as I can see was less than adiquit.

Sparks Monroe (formerly Monroe Heating) installed our furnace a few years back. Recently they came out to do annual service and had to replace the igniter. Two weeks later when we went to use heat it did not work. We called them and they came out and promptly fixed the problem at no charge. They have always been courteous, prompt, and although not perfect (is any service organization?) have always fixed any problem.

Right now they are not responding to my request. There was a problem when they came out and they knew that there was a problem and they had agreed to come back out to work on it. I don't have heat in my house and I can't seem to get anybody out to come back to fix it to make it work. I called them because I wanted to know when they had us on the schedule and I haven't heard back from them.

My central air stopped working, a technician came out to check out the system but said he didn't have any leak dye and he would come back, without charge and put some in. I was charged 97.37 with a promise I wouldn't be charged another fee. They returned several days later installed some dye and oil and a small amount of R-22 and charged me another $889, of which I paid half. They were preparing an estimate for another system for my attic. During the estimate process, the owner, Darren Dorns, engaged in hate speech, fast talking, and generally unprofessional behavior. I was over charged for R-22. It turned out there was a very small leak on a valve used to put in R-22. Last year they did the service, so they were the only ones who touched the valve. The whole system only takes takes 8lbs of R-22, and I doubt they used more than 2 lbs, which retails for about $14/Lb, I was charged nearly $300 for $30 worth of R-22, and the tech only had to turn the valve in and out once to the leak corrected. They also replaced the thermostat, which they replaced the previous year, and it was working fine (my wife told me of the change, they never told me) The actual bill was $982 + 97.37, Since I was going to have them install a second system and gave them a deposit they put 1/2 of the $982 on the installation. I canceled the contract, stopped payment on the deposit check and sent them a certified letter. These people are dishonest, use unsavory business practices and I recommend everyone stay away from them. I belatedly checked the BBB website where they have a C rating. They installed my furnace several years ago, and did a decent job. I'm assuming the firm was under different management. They were also recommended by friends in the neighborhood, who also had work done in the past. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!

I like that they were able to get the heater installed. I do not like the fact that they did not finish the job completely especially since we have already paid for their services. I have tried calling them a few times and have yet to receive a return call. They did install the heater and it works fine, but there are just a few minor things that they need to finish. I am not too upset about it because they are minor things, but I would still like the work to be completed. The final cost was the same as the estimate that they gave us.
