We saw the coupon on Angie's list so we called Palermo for an estimate. When Matt came out, he was friendly, professional and seemed knowledgeable and the estimate was very reasonable, so we went with Palermo. There was one hitch with the estimate however, which was that the 'discount' mentioned in the coupon only applied if you paid in cash. I personally don't feel comfortable paying thousands for a job in cash, so I couldn't take advantage of the coupon. Felt a bit misleading, but the price was good, so I just let it go. Then there were major delays on my end because our closing was pushed back for months, so it was months before we actually got to schedule the installation. We ordered the flooring and molding through Palermo and it arrived as expected. Our job was set to start on a Friday, but thanks to a major snowstorm, the start date got pushed back to the next Monday. When I spoke to them on the phone about the delayed start, I mentioned to them that we were (a) living in the apartment and planned to stay there while the floors were getting done and (b) had many deliveries scheduled to arrive that week. I originally scheduled the deliveries an extra day after the floors were supposed to be complete, but now there was no wiggle room. They reassured me that we'd have no issues living there while they were working and that the guys knew how to move things around so they could work with stuff arriving. They also reassured me that even with the delayed start, the job would be definitely be done in two days, so I moved deliveries so that they had two whole days w/o any deliveries to finish the job. On the first day, the guys arrived an hour and a half late. While it's understandable that there can be traffic or other delays, there was no phone call to let me know what was going on. So I was left waiting, late to work and wondering if anyone was even going to show up. When I finally called the office, they blamed the holidays, miscommunication and traffic. When the guys did show up, it turned out that one of the materials they needed for the job wasn't there (I was told previously that they would provide it) so all they could do was rip up the existing carpet on the first day. After a half a day of work, we were left with bare concrete floors with staples sticking out and not a single sq ft of space to 'live in'.. we reminded them that we needed to stay there while the work was being done, but perhaps my idea of a 'livable space' and theirs were a little different. (we ended up going to a hotel that night). I called the office that day because we could not afford any delays and got reassurances that they would be on time the next day and that they'd have all the materials they needed to get the job done the next day. On the second day, four guys arrive right on time at 9am - which was a great start. They said they brought four guys with them so they could get the job done and they should be able to finish the entire job that day. I was thrilled. I made sure they had both my number and my husband's and told them to call with any issues or questions. By 3pm that day, my husband came back to an empty apartment. 75% of the job was done and the place was empty. There was dust everywhere and they hadn't covered any of our belongings (or closed the bathroom doors where stuff was jammed in) and so dust got all over our stuff. I received no update as to what happened or why they didn't finish. I called the office to find out and they never called me back. We had deliveries set to arrive starting the next morning and I wasn't sure there would be space to set everything up. The next morning, two guys arrived to finish the job. There was no explanation or apology for what happened the day before, but the guy had questions about the installation. I told him the day prior to call with any questions or issues, but it seemed he didn't finish installing the molding because he wasn't sure about something. Why didn't he call? I also found out that the molding that was installed needed to be painted and that is our responsibility. This is only a minor annoyance because had they let me know about that earlier, I'd have had the painters (who came two weeks ago) paint the moldings then, _before_ they got installed. Then I got a revised invoice from the office along with a disclaimer that they don't provide any warranty on the installation and that the product that they recommended and we bought, also does not have a warranty. Even Lumber Liquidators products come with a warranty! And their Angie's List page says they warranty their work. That also felt a bit misleading. All that being said, the floors themselves came out great. Despite the hiccups mentioned above, the guys were nice and we are happy with their work.

They were prompt, effiicient and courteous. The results were beautiful but the floors have not maintained their beauty. I am not sure the 3 coats of the finish were sufficient. The finishes used now are not strong enough to sustain the traffic in a family home. Palermo should have recommended more coats to endure a family home.

SEE ABOVE They are rude, inconsiderate and incompetent. If they are typical of Angies list then of what use is the list?
Description of Work: Made appointment to come to my house to give an estimate, between 3:30 and 4:30 pm 12/18/13. Received two calls to remind me so that I would be home. Nobody showed up, nobody called. They just "blew me off." This is a company to avoid. At best they are merely incompetent. More probably rude, undependable and inconsiderate. If they cant get the simple matter of an appointment to do an estimate right how good can their work be? They should not be on Angie's list.

They were to come at 1:00PM. At 1:00PM I called to check their arrival time and was told the appointment was scheduled for between 1:00 and 2:00 which it was not. They came in and looked at the job and told me there was a minimum of $700. I had told them it was a small repair. They thoroughly wasted my time.

It took a few weeks to solidify the estimate but I chose Palermo because of their experience with installing bamboo flooring, which I purchased from LI Paneling. I dealt with Matt, who is the owner, Brian, and Barbara in the office. I received an Angies List discount. The installers, Ben plus another guy arrived on time and promptly started. They ripped out our carpet and padding, rolled it up and left it outside for special pick-up. They moved the two pieces of furniture which we had left in the room after we removed the rest. We have large heavy formica pieces. The set up outside to cut and trim the wood, did a good thorough job installing the bamboo, reinstalled the molding and cleaned up well when they were done. They were fast and efficient . I was missing a transition piece that is needed between my bedroom and the hallway. While Ben was here I ordered it from LI Paneling. I have an appointment next week for Brian to give me an estimate for another room and to install the piece. I am assuming that will go well too.. I will update at that time.

I would never personally use them. I would never recommend them.
Description of Work: Sent us an estimate through email. I called them and spoke to someone asking: I found you on Angie's List and I see there is a 10% discount for members, but it's not on the email. She told me that I would have had to present a coupon for it before the estimate was given. I explained that if I had to present the coupon before they came to give an estimate that it is a deal breaker because it would be unethical. She said that she couldn't make that decision, and that she was going to ask her boss, and that they would contact me. I never heard from them again.

They did an outstanding job on the floor - it was badly stained with paint from the previous owner and from the foam that had been under the carpeting for about 25 years. It came out even better than I imagined it would. There were two issues that kept me from giving them an A all around: Firstly, after the floor was done, I didn't know that there would be another crew coming the next day to do the mouldings. The crew that did the floor didn't know anything about it. When I tried to reach someone in the office, I got an answering machine. I then lost several days because they never told me the crew was coming the next day, so I went to work! After the miscommunication got straightened out and we rescheduled, the crew showed up late and without the materials they were supposed to have brought. I then had to wait while they went to Home Depot to get what they needed to complete the job. Frankly, I think I was overcharged for the work done on the mouldings, but I was anxious to have the job done. But they really did do a magnificent job on the floor!
Description of Work: I contracted Palermo to redo my bedroom floor, including sanding and varnishing, and to replace the mouldings which were all too high since wall-to-wall carpet was removed.

Terrible.............................never showed, never called
Description of Work: Based upon the Angies list reviews I called Palermo to arrange an appointment to refinish TWO houses that had hard wood oak floors. The appointment was for 3/11/13 at 12 o'clock. Not only did they not show to keep the appointment but there was never a phone call to explain what happened. Imagine if you had a company and was asked to give an estimate for work that easily was going to be several thousand dollars. I guess this company was be too busy to want the business of refinishing two houses of wood floors. This job entailed two living rooms, two dining rooms, hallways, steps, three bedrooms. Interestingly enough, another company that was called to give an estimate arrived 1 hour early. I guess they want the business. Based upon my experience, do not trust Palermo.

I am sorry that no one returned your phone call. We return all phone calls we receive and if we did not get your message I am sorry. Since Sandy our phones have been busy and we only call customer back and leave messages, we wish you would have called back again so that we would have been able to help you. We looked through our records and did not see a message from you. Sorry we were not able to help you with your project.
A week before the appointed day we paid half of the cost to Mr. Bruno. On the appointed day the crew consisting of three men arrived early in the morning and started removing the carpets. They informed me that one of the floor boards was cracked and needed to be replaced at a cost of $150. After talking to Mr. Bruno on the phone he agreed to reduce it a little. After that they sanded and stained the entire floor working pretty much all through the day and finished sanding by evening. Next day morning one person came and put one coat of Bona Traffic. He asked that no one walk on the floor. He came back again and put a second coat later that evening. On the third day the final coat was put. Other than some minor imperfections, they did a fantastic job!

He did a very good job. He came in and gave the quote when he said he would. Basically, he did what he said and did a very good job. There was some glue on the floor and when we called him, he came and took care of it. The only thing was that he was supposed to give us a discount because we use Angie's List, but he said if he gave us the discount he would not insure the work. So, we did not get the discount because we needed the work insurance. He took off the floor and moved the furniture and he quoted all these before he did it. He gave us a very detailed quote. He really did everything he said he was going to do. They did a nice job and they cleaned up.

Matt came by, unfortunately my job is one of emergencies and I was stuck at work, my father filled in, another unfortunate unknown to me until that day was two of my choices for estimates, Matt being one showed up at the same time. He came by and saw the job answered my fathers questions, He did tell my father he would call me, but never did. I did however receive a follow up e-mail with two estimates. I hope he reads this if you say your going to call....call. E-mail's are out of touch non-personable. Anyway, estimates where way higher than a few quotes I did end up getting for that same work. return e-mail to my response was someone else and she tried, but at this point was turned off. I say try them and see may have different experience.
Palermo Flooring refinished the floor in my bedroom. Matt came exactly on time to look over the job and give the estimate. After interviewing other vendors, I found Palermo's price to be very fair and reasonable. They did a fantastic job!! Three men from the company moved the furniture out, removed old carpeting, sanded, stained and applied 3 coats of polyurethane. This took 3 days. Two days later, after the finish dried, they moved all the furniture back exactly where it was and even remembered to reconnect the TV in the cabinet. The color of the new floor is a perfect match to the existing wooden floors which abut the bedroom. Palermo flooring is an excellent company and extremely responsive, Ashley, the woman who works in the office, answers emails promptly. It was a pleasure to deal with her, Matt and the men who actually did the floors. Everything was very neat and clean. I highly recommend Palermo!!!

But enough about the great floors, I really came to review Palermo: Great crew; really, really fantastic work. Not quite the cheapest price, but they used superior quality products and were both fast and thorough. Prompt–basically immediate–responses & follow-up from their administrator (go Ashley!) and the work crew was awesome (and did I mention fast?). The crew was supremely professional and had their system down–no joking around, just got straight to it. I don't think they were on site for more than an hour before the living room was already sanded. Although this was a relatively simple job, I wouldn't hesitate to use these guys for ANY kind of flooring work, no matter how complex. Matt seems like a stellar guy and even came down on the original estimate once he got more accurate measurements of the square footage. Again, the apartment looks phenomenal–and I couldn't be more pleased with their work. I will be recommending them to anyone that needs floor work for as long as they are in business, which judging by the speed & quality of their work, should be a loooong time.
Description of Work: Just recently had Palermo refinish the herringbone floors in a pre-war 2-bdrm and I couldn't be happier with the result. Its stunning how much better the apartment looks. The job was straightforward–sanding & refinishing (no VOC, water-based varnish) herringbone floors throughout the apartment (co-op), plus some repair work from the years of neglect and use in the high traffic areas. Seriously, I don't think the floors had been refinished in 20 years. The crew also removed and replaced the leaves spanning the doorways & closets, as well as removed some heavy wrought-iron railings and patched the subsequent mounting holes.

We spoke with Matt regarding setting up a estimate to replace our carpet floors with laminate wood since we are on a slab. While he was helpful advising us as to which colors would look nice in our home and patient with my millions of questions, he said he would give us a call to set up an appointment to measure and provide a quote, We haven't heard back from him. I was unpleasantly surprised with the little mess that was made. I previously had my walls painted and new moldings put in. They messed up the moldings with the machine that they were using. I had to clean up and do the touch up painting myself. The quality of their work was a mixed experience, because the floors came out nice but other things were messed up. The guys that were doing the work seemed to be nice guys, but the things that came up afterwards were not nice.
