This is the second time I have hired Mr. Walsh, and I find him to be an excellent mason. I will certainly hire him again in the future.
Description of Work: Mr. Walsh removed some pavers on our door step so the termite service could access the concrete underneath to do an extermination treatment. He then replaced them after the termite treatment. He also sanded our paver walkways in front and back of our house.

Excellent. James Walsh and his crew were punctual, professional and truly helpful in resolving not only our water issue but any unforeseen circumstance that arose during the demo. He is a man of integrity with very high standards. I would highly recommend Rock Solid General Contractors for any masonry work which you might need to have done.

I could not have asked for a better person to do the job. James Walsh is such a nice person, I found him honest and trustworthy. James always showed up on time as well as his workers. Every step was explained to me from beginning to end "NO SURPRISES" as James says. I was comfortable with leaving for the day knowing that the job would be performed to my standards (which says a lot because I have never left anyone to work on my property alone before). The Job started on 4/20/17 and despite the poor weather was completed on 4/24/17. The Job far exceeded my expectations. The stoop and walkway look fantastic. I thank James and his crew for a job that again, was beyond my expectations. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

James took a look at all the projects and gave us a price for each project. Some masons who looked at the job would not itemize the projects like this. We were able to prioritize the projects, based on need and cost, and had James do several of them - front steps (slate), side steps (brick), and part of the foundation (stone). He showed up on time, got it done quick, and did a great job. We'll definitely hire him again when we turn to the remaining stone projects.
Description of Work: We newly own a 100-year-old house with a lot of stone - foundation, chimneys, steps, garden walls, etc. - and a lot needed fixing.

James and his crew clearly understood the issues and what it would take to address them, could discuss options with us intelligently, and was dedicated to ensuring we got to a solution that would provide long-term integrity for our pre-civil war brick home. He kept us appraised regularly throughout the process, and kept to his original estimate, not just repairing the brick, but discovering and remediating the source of the ongoing water deterioration.
Description of Work: We hired James and Rock Solid to remove and pour a new concrete slab retaining wall, and to remove a french drain near our beautiful brick home, diagnose water issues, and restore.

Amazingly great! James knows his stuff better than anyone else out there that I have found. Him and his crew did a great job. They were both quick and effecient. They cleaned up at the end of they and returned he next day to complete the job. We are so happy with the quality of their work. We had quotes from others that were less, but we're going to do less and not do it properly. Having had experience with concrete , we knew right away that James knew what he was talking about......... As they say " you get what you pay for". And we got quality!!!! We would highly recommend them for any job.

James (the) Mason is a fantastic fellow who does fine work. He and his team did a great job of fixing-up our 60 y/o home's crumbly bits. When he dropped-by for an estimate, he offered to fix a couple of small, ancillary issues he noticed and also had his team fix anything that they noticed as they were working at no additional cost, to include adding a bit of mortar to an area where cables enter our home to keep critters at bay and adding some mortar along the side of our foundation adjacent to a garage and sidewalk that he thought might allow unwanted water to invade. They also removed an old television antenna and pulled some leaves out of my gutters as a courtesy while working atop my frighteningly steep roof. As for the brass tacks, the work they performed came-out perfectly; were it not for the unavoidably very slightly different color of the new mortar, you would never know that this was a repair job by looking at it. On top of all of the above, they were extremely careful to clean-up the site when finished, so they 'kept only memories and (aside from the completed work) left only footprints.' I will definitely add Rock Solid General Contractors Corp to my virtual rolodex as the *only* mason to call. Ever. Thanks much to James and co!

Jim is an upstanding business man who gave us a reasonable price and provided prompt and attentive service. His crew knew what to do, did quality work and they completed the job in the timeframe expected, if not sooner. We had them remove some shrubs near the front walkway, pull up an old walkway, resurface our foundation around the whole base of the house and then put down a bluestone walkway. The time Jim spent considering the pitch of our yard, drainage, etc. in planning the job was an indicator of his expertise. His willingness to listen to our vision of how the walkway should be designed and his ability to execute on that was great. In the end we had a little issue with the last foot or so of the walkway and how it would transition to the blacktop driveway. Jim had to get creative with that piece of the job and had to come back to finish it after the rest of the work was complete. He kept to his word and came back sooner than expected to finish that. Overall, Jim, his son and the rest of the crew were great craftsmen and reliable. I highly recommend using them.

James Walsh and the crew of Rock Solid removed our existing concrete pathway in the front of our house and put in pavers. They did an excellent job. James is a highly experienced and knowledgeable professional. He listened carefully to our wishes. James provided excellent advice as to what was needed to make sure that the resulting walkway would be structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing. James is detail oriented and does whatever is necessary to satisfy his customers. I strongly recommend that you call James Walsh of Rock Solid when you are interested in installation of paving stones in both residential and commercial locations.

Top notch company. Everything in the process from the estimate, the suggestions on how to do the work, the scheduling, the quality of the work and the attention to detail was exceptional. Jim Walsh and his team do a great job and were a pleasure to deal with. When Jim came over to do the estimate he saw that our house has a unique kind of burnt brick that is difficult to match; and immediately recommended I go buy some used brick that he had seen in a yard in Rockland county; without even knowing that he had gotten the job. Once I hired him, he came to do the job exactly the week he quoted; and completed the job in the time frame he had said he needed. His crew was neat and the brick he told me to go buy was a perfect match. Thanks again Jim!

James is always good about estimates and calling people back. He gave me the best price by far! Two days to take down and rebuild chimney, and he threw on a new chimney cap without me asking. Only issue involved the crew he had which washed out the tarps full of cement onto my lawn and dumped unused cement and bricks into the back of my yard. When I found it, he apologized, didn't question it and came back to remove it without delay. He's a good guy. Use him

This may be the longest review I ever write. James Walsh is one of the nicest and upfront people I have ever worked with. The man came down to see the chimney on a Sunday, after retrieving the message I had left via Angies List. He was blunt, and thoroughly explained all that was wrong with the chimney. Let me be clear, the chimney was not up to code, too tall, leaning as if one good storm would have it topple over onto my house. I knew for a while that it was an issue but could not afford to have it fixed until now. Mr. Walsh gave me advise regarding it, and told me what the chimney needed in case I chose a different contractor. He was nice enough to guide me regarding another issue-my retaining wall. What he didn't know was my dad, a retired contractor, had alerted me to the problems with the chimney, told me what it should look like, and how it needed to be fixed, even made sure I had a picture of a correct one to go by. Everything my dad said Mr. Walsh said. Being a single, female homeowner has been challenging as there are unscrupulous service providers who have attempted to take advantage not knowing I learned many things from my dad, and I have friends who also guide me. Mr. Walsh is truly the opposite of those types. It took two days because I was having a liner also installed. I used the guy Mr. O'Connell who Mr. Walsh had recommended, another hard worker, and all around nice guy. My house is over 100 years old, and full of surprises to say the least. The fact that the chimney was devoid of effective lining is yet one of them. The d*** thing was crumbling inside, and took two days for Mr. O'Connell to tackle. Thankfully he was able to get the liner in. I cannot express enough gratitude. I know how bad the chimney was, and until I met Mr. Walsh worried about how I was going to get it fixed. He worked with me, and for the amount of work that went into that thing compared to the price, I am forever grateful. The most important people in my life, i have moved into my home, and thanks to Mr. Walsh and Mr. O'Connell, I have one less safety and health hazard to worry about. Anyone who wants quality, fair pricing, hardworking, genuine professional and overall nice person call Mr. Walsh. Even the man's young sons are personable and hardworking. Speaks to Mr. Walsh's character even more.

Wow. Of all of the contractors I have worked with and used on jobs, large and small, I have never been as pleased with an experience as I am with this one. James and his staff were responsive, professional, expert, and attentive. We discussed options without having him hard-sell me on anything. The contract was agreed to on the spot and the work was done well within the time estimated for a start date. With five men, including James, on the job it was completed in one day. Other contractors had quoted as many as 3-4 days. We also discussed additional work which we will get to in the spring. This is a no-brainer. Rock Solid GC is worth every penny.

James and his crew of Ecuadorians were fantastic. I have never seen such a hard-working crew. These guys could have finished the Panama Canal in half the time it took. James is a true professional. When the job proved to be significantly more difficult than initially expected and require more concrete James never flinched and he never increased the agreed-upon fee. James also noticed a structural deficiency and brought in a bracing contractor (additional fee) who did a great job in concert with James' efforts. Also, when James determined that the original plan for the footings would not provide enough structural stability he expanded the footers at no additional cost. The finished job looks great. It's a night and day change from my crumbling wall to a smooth finish with the peace of mind of a job well done and structurally sound. I highly recommend James.

James did several jobs for us. In 2006 he extended an 80 year old stone chimney up about 10' because we did an addition. The original was built of stone that was on the property. We pulled a bunch of rocks from the excavation and washed them. James used those rocks to build up the stone chimney. He did an amazing job! You can not tell where the extended section is. Color matched the mortar perfect. The best part about this guy is that he is a good man ( and a good husband and father). James is the type of person that you would give the key to your house and tell him to come over any time. During our construction we had a fire that kept us out of our house for three years while we battled the molesting insurance giant Allstate. When we had no choice but to move back into our fire damaged house. We needed to fix plumbing that was under stone floors. I did the demo and plumbing repairs and James came to re-lay the stone floors. When it was all done I asked James what I owed him and the man would NOT TAKE ANY MONEY FOR THE JOB. he said we were having hard times and lost a lot of money due to Allstate, and it was his joy to be able to help us get our daughter back into our house. You will never find a mason (a man) like James Walsh anywhere. Top quality work, honor, benevolent and a true gentleman, To hire anyone else is a foolish move. Jay Papp, west Nyack, NY.

James was great to work with. He provided a competively priced estimate. It was several hundred dollars less than what other estimates were. I was impressed with how he pointed out how the slope of the landing contributed to the water build up that caused the steps to crack. He and his crew removed the railings, tore out the broken steps, created a slope so water would run off properly and built a lovely blue stone entrance stairway to our home. He returned a short time later to reinstall the railings. All work was done on time. I have another project needing a mason and will certainly call James based on the fine experience we had.
