Description of Work: It has been many years since I used Wolfe, but they're still in business, still at the same location, and as far as I know still under the same Wolfe family management. But they have always represented to me the ultimate ripoff of an unknowing homeowner. This was confirmed for me by a conversation with the local hardware-store owner (pre-Home Depot days) who knew their activities well. At the time , I had a deepwell--can't remember the exact depth, but it was several hundred feet--and at the bottom was a submersible pump that pumped the wellwater up. A lightning strike traveled down the electric cable and blew out the pump, leaving me without water. Called Wolfe, the big local plumbing service, and they responded promptly and two men spent several hours pulling up the pump, replacing it and lowering it back into place. They charged me, as I remember, about $4,000. Several months later, my pump was again blown out by lightning, and this time I called a nearby well specialist. He responded equally promptly, pulled up and replaced the well single-handed and charged me $800. When I called Wolfe and complained about the earlier ripoff, they told me they needed to charge high rates in order to have enough plumbers and service vehicles to respond immediately to emergencies. Didn't seem to be a problem for the well-drilling specialist, and perhaps Wolfe is justified in charging what it does, but beware that--at least based on my experience--you will be paying through the nose if you call them in an emergency. For all I know, their routine, non-emergency plumbing (and other) work is excellent and is done at standard rates.
