In July 2012 we had Joe install a steel roof on a single wide mobile home. He showed up on time, right before my husband and I left for work, and by the time we returned, Joe and his team had made a lot of progress. The roof was about 1/3 the way done, but I was a little nervous when I saw the overhang was only 1 inch. The previous roof only had about a half-inch overhang and water would poor into the doorjam, eventually causing a leak that was staining the inside wall and molding. So when I saw 1-inch, I was nervous. Joe's explanation was that the water slides off the roof so quickly, anything more than 1 inch wasn't needed. We waited for the first rain and he was right. Snow, however... He came back later in the summer and installed 2 gutters, one for each door entrance, but there's no spout for the water to travel down. It's simply directed away from the doorframe. Our back entrance has 2 long stains and mold that start at the openings of the gutter. Over the winter, and it was a bad one, both the snow stoppers for our bathroom vents were pulled off and snow was falling into the vents. It's winter and a scary time to be up on a slipery, metal roof, so my dad roughly duct-daped them back on until it was warmer. Joe did come back while we were at work and put new ones on. It's now September 2013 and we have the same leak in our doorjam, staining the floor. I've punched a hole in the drywall (terribly ugly) and put a space heater in front of it everytime we have rain, to avoid any molding. The gutters have tilted and do not drain well, and our back door has mold growing down the sides. My mom was helping me pay for the roof, in hopes that it would be an investment in our little home, but it has been a continuous maintenance project since winter. I don't know much about roofing, and I believe when we started the project, my mom and I wanted a 6 inch overhang to avoid the need for gutters and prevent water from running down the side of the house. I'm not sure if this was a miscommunication or if the order had been wrong. I thought steel roofs were supposed to last forever...? I'm frustrated because now we're beyond 1 year and winter is on it's way. We're back to having a leak in the doorframe and mold growing on the siding because the water is not draining properly from the gutters.

Description of Work: The roof was replaced on my house about 6 yrs ago,so I don't remember how much it cost, but it was reasonable for a small home.I replaced the roof because it was 20 yrs old and we were experiencing some leaking particularly around the flashing of the chimney. Initially Joe Thompkins was pleasant and he tore the roof off in a timely fashion, however finishing the job was another story. He would go days without working on it and when he would come, half the day would be gone. I had to go to his house to urge him to finish the job. He worked by himself. Clean up was good, but replacement of the gutters in a secure fashion and angle was lacking. I wanted a copy of the guarantee on the shingles which he could not provide me with and I had to go online to get it. He wanted the final payment when he said he was finished, but I said I wanted to look at it. I don't think he expected a woman would get up on the roof, and much to my dismay the shingles around the chimney area were not even stuck down. I refused to pay him until this was fixed and he said he didn't think we should work together again. I agreed. I have no idea what his work is like now, but back then it was certainly subpar and I wouldn't recomment him based on my experience at that time.

I am very surprsed to read this. First of all this job was 10+ yers ago. This customer never once came to my personal home. The lack of arriving at her home was because I had a wife with terminal cancer and she was made aware of this prior to beginning the job. The customer never once complained of anything while this job was in progress. I have also never had a problem showing anyone the job once it is finished, be it a woman or a man. She has never once called to tell me that she had a problem with any of the work that I have done as I have had this same phone number for 20+ years. I have done more than 6 homes on her road alone and never had any dissatisfied customers. I personally guarantee my work, not the manufacture product. So therefore she would have had to contact the company to get the warranty for the shingle. The roof was flashed correctly and it takes time for the tar on the shingles to liquify and adhere to the shingle below it, which is why it would have been easy to lift up at that time. Which I also explained to her. I was never given notification that either her or her husband was dissatisfied in anyway. When she paid me, she said that they were happy with the job. I am not sure why she would say this after so much time has passed but none of what she says is based on fact.

I am very surprised to read this report from this customer. We discussed at the beginning of the job that certain days I might show up a little late due to the cold weather as we cannot put shingles on in cold weather because they become brittle and break. This customer never said anything to me that she was in anyway unhappy with our progress, as I met with her each evening to make sure she was happy with our progress. This customer never once indicated that she was in any way unhappy with any portion of the job. As it was, I already gave her a great discount because it was done in the off season, also I put on the seamless gutter system at my own expense.

Quick and painless.
Description of Work: We have hired Joe twice to repair a poorly installed roof. He was punctual, attentive, and to our unprofessional knowledge has done a good job at doing what we hired him to do. We definitely plan on using him again for any future roof problems we will probably have!

A few years ago, the owner of the company (Joe) put on our roof and deck. At that time, the quality was good. However, it took months for it to be finished. When we were looking for quotes to install a new counter and backsplash, and sink - we were looking for quotes. JT Construction came in the lowest. However, we informed Joe how displeased we were with the amount of time it took him to get our deck finished. He apologized profusely and stated that at that time he was having some personal problems and guaranteed it would not happen again. We were waiting for him to start this job when one day he showed up in the afternoon and informed me that he was about to start a big roofing job and that we would have to wait. However, if we had his Uncle Tom - who was an expert in kitchens, then it could be done in a day. Joe assured us of Tom's professionalism and that he did work for Home Depot. We knew it would take more than one day. At first it was two days/weekend. When we asked Tom when he would be back to finish - he did not know. During the week we learned Tom would be back on Saturday November, 13th. My husband canceled his plans for that day. Saturday morning, Tom called to say he would now be here on Sunday but would not leave until the job was done. The sink was installed but it leaked. There is a large gap in the corner of the counter. There are others spots that are loose and not 'true.' We heard from both Tom and Joe at least twice that they had not forgotten about us, yet did not come to make the repairs (we had already mistakenly paid them because we considered this to be an hours worth of work and figured they would get right to it). On Friday November 26, the corner piece of the counter peeled off. We called Joe. He told us to call his uncle directly. We did. Tom said he would call us back to schedule when he would come and fix this. We heard nothing. Wednesday, December 1st, we called Tom and left yet another message. Still heard nothing. We contacted Joe Friday December 3rd. Joe called and told us he would be here today, Saturday December 4th. We re-arranged our plans. At approximately 1:45pm Joe called to inform us that yet again he would not be coming to make the repairs. He told us to call his Uncle Tom - even though, Tom does not return calls. Thus, we will once again be staying at home - waiting. My husband told Joe that his uncle had until 5pm tomorrow to fix this or we would expect Joe himself to be here no later than 10am to make the repairs himself. Joe offered up many excuses so we will see if it happens. We called Tom - who of course did not answer. While I understand this is not a big dollar job - we still expect some level of professionalism. Fool me once.... Today, December 5th. Tom's apprentice showed up at approx 11:20am. He could not repair the side pieces as he did not have the proper equipment with him. The pieces were cut incorrectly. He also could not fix the gap in the corner because all he had with him was wax. The apprentice apologized and said "yeah, Tom likes to do the big things but waits to do the little things later (like quality repairs?). So, still nothing is fixed. We will call Joe later this evening. This is getting beyond ridiculous.

Due to the dissatisfaction of this customer I immediately severed ties with that sub contractor and have not used a sub contractor since. I personally work on each and every job and have not had a complaint since this incident. I personally went back and fixed the errors that were made. The customer has since called on me to give another estimate for some work to be done. I personally gurantee that each and every customer will be 100% satisfied with the work performed, or I will work at it until they are.
