We rely on Sunlight to clean our antique carpets every year. They hand wash them and recommend necessary maintenance and repairs. In addition to their beautiful work on our rugs, they are also reachable and always get our items back within agreed deadlines. I used Sunlight Fine Rugcare & Restoration to clean and fix up my antique (100+ years old) family heirloom Bokara rug. I was initially hesitant to give this valuable heirloom to someone I had never met before, but my fears were assuaged when I met Haim - the company owner - and it became clear that he was a professional. I was very happy with the results. After the cleaning and repair the rug looked better than I had seen it in the previous 40 years. Some of the tears on the rug that were fixed I could no longer even find after I got the rug back. Prior to the cleaning Haim - the owner - explained in detail the cleaning process and provided me with different cleaning and repair options and their cost. The cleaning and repair took three weeks - exactly how long Haim said it would take. I would highly recommend Sunlight Fine Rugcare & Restoration for your rug cleaning and repair needs.

I used Sunlight to clean a hand-knotted Oriental wool rug that I had not cleaned for a long time. I was thrilled with the results. The rug is now bright and clean. The fringe came out so clean that I don’t think it was this white when I bought it. I was very happy that the company’s owner, Haim Shemesh, gave such personal and professional service: he came to inspect the rug and again to deliver and lay it down. This is so unlike other big (factory-like) companies that I have used in the past. (Those companies send in I unknowledgeable people to pick up the rugs; they inspect at their plants making communication about issues and cleaning/repair options difficult; and they use large, commercial machines to wash, rinse and dry which can often damage or shrink rugs.). Sunlight hand washes and hand dries Oriental rugs so there is no risk of such damage. I highly recommend Sunlight for its expert results.

The results were wonderful, beyond my expectations. The ivory background is now light ivory again, and all the other colors are bright and clean. The fringe was expertly repaired. The rug's pile is restored so the nap is no longer flat. I could not have asked for a better job. The quality of the service, professionalism and responsiveness were all I could ask for. I will definitely recommend Sunlight to others and will be using them again.

It was for area rugs. I had 3 area rugs and 2 runners cleaned. Their price is comparable to everyone else. It is no big savings or no ripoff.

Rug looks very nice, color restored, nap is very soft underfoot. A little more expensive than expected.

Sunlight Fine Rug Care did an excellent job not only cleaning my regular and oriental rugs, but also restoring a beautiful antique handwoven tapestry Kilim rug that had been damaged because of a moth infestation. When Haim came to inspect my rugs and saw the moth damage, he recommended that all my rugs should be cleaned and moth proofed to make sure that no moth eggs or lava remained. I was devastated by some of the damage, but he assured me that his artisans who do the oriental rug restoration would be able to make the repairs to the Kilim. The restoration result was excellent, as was the cleaning of all eight rugs which ranged from antique oriental rugs to regular tufted area rugs. I couldn't be more pleased and highly recommend Sunlight Fine Rugcare & Restoration.

We had a high end rug (over 30 years old) that was very worn. We were presently surprised when the rug was returned. It looks brand new. We were very satisfied with Sunlight Fine Rugcare and Restoration. The staff were very professional and did everything they said they would do. Pick up and delivery made it very simple for us. I can hardly believe that anyone would honestly write the kind of glowing reviews about Sunlight that led me to deal with this company. In fact I can hardly believe my own foolishness in agreeing to let them handle my rugs. Never, never again will I make this mistake. Nick, the man who came to give me an ?estimate?, quoted a price that was more than three times what Bloomingdales had charged me to clean the same rugs in 2013, and when I said that was way too much, he protested that he had his ?man with the truck outside?. I said I had called for an estimate, not the job, and he began to tell me how valuable the rugs were and what terrible shape they were in, all the while reducing the price of cleaning. He pointed to a dark place in the rug pattern and said it was mold. (Mold in a rug that had been cleaned just a little over two years before and had lain in the middle of my living room, not in an attic or basement; mold, though there had been no major spills and no spills of any kind that had not been tended to immediately.) Ridiculous. But it had been my thought that perhaps the rugs deserved a special cleaning this year, and when the price reached a nearly reasonable level, I caved. The more fool. Nick?s man appeared immediately and began taking up the rugs, exposing what to my surprise were badly worn pads (not replaced at last cleaning), and I agreed to purchase new pads. Did I want Scotchgarding? Yes, certainly, and the price leapt again. But by then the rugs were up and gone, and I was left standing with a hastily written form. At least maybe they?ll do a super job, I told myself. Then after two weeks, the promised time of cleaning went by, and no rugs. I called and Haim said, ?You?re in a hurry?? I said I just wanted the rugs as promised. One was ready, I was told; the other would need more work. Indeed. When the two rugs finally arrived, the smaller rug had a considerable section of fringe missing. I pointed it out to the man delivering the rug, and he took the rug back with no protest. Then began a string of emails between Haim and me. ? . . .our wash process doesn't not hurt the rugs in any way,? Haim wrote, ?probably those fringes or to be accurate the parts that the fringes got damaged were very dry and they fell off in the wash.? (these were the same rugs that were called moldy by Nick) ?Otherwise the whole fringes all along would have been damaged. Never the less i am not arguing with you in anyway ?? Haim did replace the fringes, and approximately seven weeks from the day the rugs were taken, I finally had both back. I also had the first of two detailed invoices, which I?d insisted on receiving. The first listed ?Area rug cleaning, mold treatment and mildew care; Area rug sanitation and disinfection; Area rug, hand wash and PH Balance: Area rug, final wash and deodorizing; Padding, pads for both rugs.? There were no prices for any of these, simply the total after a line of zeros. No mention of Scotchgarding. I insisted on individual pricing and finally received a second invoice with detailed pricing. Still no mention of the Scotchgarding that had supposedlyies sent Nick?s estimate soaring. I like the idea of giving small business people a break, but no more. This was a perfectly dreadful experience.

Haim is a good guy. He came, gave me a price, and took the area carpets to be cleaned. When he returned them they looked fantastic and honestly much better than I ever could have imagined.

Sunlight did an excellent job. We've had this Poruguese needlepoint rug for about 30 years and it needed a lot of work since it has been in our living room for all that time. I only checked good on the price because I really did not know the going rates and it was a lot of money.

Haim, the amazing man who visited my new apartment, gave me a great deal since I had recently had some other work done. My neglected silk rug had become much darker and damaged than I should have allowed. When it came back, it was soft and stunning; the whites were white, and the colors were brilliant. Some discoloration from water damage had unexpectedly been removed, and he provided me with a new pad. The filthy Kilim I had purchased in an auction came back soft, bright and smell-free. He said they had to wash it twice to get it clean and they didn't charge anything extra. He also put a loop across the top so I could hang it on my living room wall with a strong curtain rod. I could have spent more money to restore both rugs perfectly, but I couldn't really see anything else that needed fixing. I guess you have to have an expert's eye and I would rather keep that kind of money in my pocket. Thank you Haim for fantastic service.

The rugs look fantastic. I asked about a spot that looked like it hadn't come completely out. They took it back and washed it again and it came back perfect. They apologized for not noticing it the first time and bent over backwards to make me happy.

Awesome service! Haim is a real professional. He responded promptly and was flexible in making an appointment to pick up rugs and give me an estimate. Once he arrived, I immediately understood that this is someone who is honest, fair and passionate about rugs. He treats them as the special artifacts that they are, and his advice on how to maintain them is straight up. No up sell , nothing shady. He explains clearly all the possible services, then suggests what should be done as if he would take care of his own rugs. Super nice, amicable guy. This is not some 1-800 large scale service where a machine makes your apointment and a random person comes to grunt at you while they haul away your goods while you are unsure what service you're going to have done...this is real customer service! I real hard-working business man who is local and in my neighborhood! He is sincere and has a lot of experience. My rugs were delivered later that week - again, with flexible accommodating timing - and I was amazed!!! My vintage prayer rug came back soft, straightened with new edges, with new gorgeous fringe and so clean the colors popped! I had no idea how vibrant it actually was meant to be. The other rug was also restored fully and were stunning. I was so pleased with this service that I actually sought out his service later when I needed a very loved sofa to be steam cleaned. He and a partner came and the job was done quickly and efficiently. An old vintage pillow was cleaned too! I couldn't believe how fresh it looked and smelled afterward. like new! Yet again, I sought Haim's advice when I was about to purchase a very large 10x13" Persian rug from someone on Craigslist. As soon as I brought it home we made an appointment for a cleaning consultation. He checked it out and explained that some of the small "bald spots" were not a result of friction but past moth damage. So for that rug, it needed a special treatment and cleaning besides a rug pad. It came back more beautiful than than J could have expected and now without the threat of continued moth damage. Additionally the rug pad from Haim was at a better price and better quality than anything I looked at in stores or online. The results of this service made me really appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry that go into making and maintaining handmade rugs. I will continue to utilize this service and highly recommend it with utmost enthusiasm!

I recently worked with Sunlight to have three kilim rugs cleaned and repaired. The rugs were incredibly dirty and not in a good state, and they came back looking beautiful, fresh and new. Sunlight did excellent work and offered great customer service as well. I will definitely use them again, and definitely recommend them to anyone wanting quality work.
