The story is not over, I have not yet decided if I will continue service with them.
Description of Work: installed wifi. Only after multiple calls after the wifi disconnected several times daily did we discover we were given used, not quite "current" equipment. After I asked for a refund they agreed to send a "new" router via FedEx. Have not yet received it and am not sure that is actually the cause of the problem. Also, prior to purchasing internet service from Optimum, I called a few times with different questions. Each time I was given a different price & told the rep was surprised by the information I had been given.

I pay them every month and have had them for several years. I get periodic emails and got one recently telling me my rates are going up. Chances are I might just drop them and go with somebody else. The service is good, but when you call them it is a hassle going through. There is too much waiting online and too many hold times. I think the pricing is on the high side but there is not too competition. The quality is good. You call them up and hey will address it. They are aggressive and will set a date and they keep their appointments. When I call them to negotiate on pricing rates they will give me certain offers and you get a different service person each time you call. They always ask me who I spoke with. They are pretty brutal about paying.

I was disappointed with the Optimum pricing and the lack of discounts in my area 11937. We considered a triple play package but the cost was significantly higher than Verizon/DirecTV. In any event we settled for just TV. I'm not happy about the cost and edging towards cutting the cord. The first bill was also confusing. I was expecting an installation charge and first month, but apparently they bill for 2 month periods. I'm actually waiting for the next bill to come in to provide some clarity.
Description of Work: We switched from DirecTV to Optimum because the TV signal was erratic.

they called me to inform me that I have to now pay $59/month even if I don't receive the other two services.
Description of Work: was approved to pay just $39/month b/c I only use the internet. didn't have a tv or land-line so never needed their recommended 'triple-play.'

I've been using after a optimum for five years now. they lure you in with a respectable price for the first year. After that the price doubles and you need to call up and negotiate a new price after that the price doubles and you need to call up and negotiate a new price every 12 months. They make you feel they are doing you a favor by providing you with whatever they give you of whatever the price they give it to you. Every time you have a problem You call them up and you should be happy if you have any technical knowledge or you could be on the phone with him them for you call them up and you should be happy if you have any technical knowledge or you could be on the phone with him them for hours. It seems that their prices are controlled by some guy spinning a price wheel and every Price that you get is just a random Price that somebody makes up arbitrarily. The network quality is good. Never had any problems getting on the internet or service interruptions. Customer service is prompt, and tech support has generally been competent. The price for internet service is too high in my opinion, but all the providers charge too much for this. All in all a good quality provider.

My bill keeps going up even though I have just a basic cable plan. I started out with a two year introductory deal at just $80/month. After the two years were up, however, my monthly bill started going steadily up and I now pay more than $160/month for very basic channels (no HBO, Cinemax, Starz etc.) I live on a lake with a mountain ridge behind it, and there is no game in town here but Optimum/Cablevision. No Verizon, and no signals on a dish. So there is no competition; they charge me whatever they want, and are simply rude when I call to try and somehow get my bill lowered. I am a senior citizen living on Social Security and disability. I am told I should be grateful my bill is not even higher! If I had a choice, I would certainly go with another service provider.

They did not do very good work. Services were performed by the provider.I have theTelevision and phone service connected but not working.I can't send or receive an email.I don't like them. They showed up on time.I would not use them in the future.

Optimum is a good cable provider and I haven't had any issues with them. They were responsive and there was a service center very close to our home. The On demand is very good and improved over the years! Alot of free movies and shows are available as well as pay per view shows. no complaints here, and would use again!

Other than the price, I had no dislikes. The service is fine. I had no complaints about the service. It's always pretty good.

Overall excellent. Great range of cable channels. Always responded to any questions or problems promptly. My reason for discontinuing service was due to a move from Brooklyn to Staten Island in late March, 2013. Would go back to them immediately if available here.

I picked my day and they showed up as planned. Not only did he hook my new internet box up but he helped me hook up a TV I had just purchased. The repair man did not have to do that at all, he was very kind and showed me what to do with my hook up. He was very professional, on time, and quick. Before I knew it they were done and leaving. I like Optimum's service for my phone, TV and internet. I would not change my service for anyone.

3/15/14 I reported the problem of a non functioning modem. They came and replaced the modem. System worked for a day or so. System quit and I reported the problem. Another repairman was sent. He traced the lines and found something not up to grade and replaced it. The modem worked for a few days. It quit again. This went on for at least 2 weeks. The last man who came discovered that the problem originated on the outside where someone had improperly installed something knocking my service out. Each repairman was courteous and interested as to why this problem kept popping up. None of them was condescending or thought of me as a complaining pain.....
Description of Work: Ttracked wiring looking for reasons my modem would not work properly. This was the 4th attempt. Each prior attempt located and fixed an error. This located the final error. This is an old installation (more than 12 years)

Switched providers and have not gone back, even for lower rates.
Description of Work: Ended up cancelling service because the provider would not review my rates to compete with another provider. The day I switched services they tried to lower my rates. Too late. Also never showed to pick up the equipment, had to make 2 other appointments before they showed up.

We have a DVR with our cable. The DVR is not very good. Won't rewind live TV. Can pause live TV, but the machine only lets you pause for 15 minutes and frequently jumps ahead to the "live" portion shortly after resuming watching (making the pause function useless). The machine doesn't respond very fast to buttons pressed on the remote control; as such, rewind / fastforward is jumpy and it is virtually impossible to get close to the point we are trying to reach. We lost all of our shows on the DVR after moving the box from one end of our room to another. Also, many shows do not work on the DVR - it has a hard time maintaining the integrity of the saved data.
