NYC Apartment Painters

Description of Work: We hired Damien to paint our entire apartment. He gave us a quote and told us that it would cost us $1500 extra to do our kitchen cabinets since they require more time and skill to do right (have to take doors off, spray separately, etc). We were told it would be a 3-4 day job. | |Damien told us to buy 27 gallons of paint. We needed 1/3 of that. When Damien saw all the paint we had, he asked "who told you you needed that much paint?" Well, Damien, YOU, did! | |Damien contracted out the work to other painters, who were told it had to be done in 2 days. The actual painters told us it was probably a 4-6 day job, but Damien tried to rush them to get it done in 2. | |After 3 days, the job wasn't even half completed. There was paint all over the floors, the actual paint on the trim and ceilings was sloppy and unfinished. The walls that were supposedly finished only had 1 coat of paint on them. One bathroom had water marks all over the wall where they had splashed from the sink on the freshly painted walls. | |They painted 1 wall that wasn't supposed to be painted (metal sliding doors). | |The kitchen cabinets were not sprayed or even removed and were just quickly and badly painted by hand. I could take a paint brush and paint them better, yet we were supposed to pay 1500 for the cabinets alone. | |We were supposed to pay 25% after the first day and 25% after the second day, but we told Damien we'd pay him (not his subcontractors) when he showed up to our apartment so we could voice our concerns about the sloppy and rushed work. Damien refused to show up and told his painters to walk off the job. They never came back. | |In the end, we paid 65% of the quoted price for an apartment that was half painted and had paint all over the hardwood floors, countertops, etc. We had to pay someone $2k just to come in and fix Damien's company's mess. He said he coudln't believe how sloppy the paint job was. | |Stay far away from this unprofessional company. Don't believe a word Damien tells you.
