Workmanship was shoddy. He ran out of money and he disappeared for weeks at a time. I would never use him again. He bid for high quality fixtures and we were away and when we came back he had installed lower quality that didnt look anything like what we speced. HORRIBLE.

I paid money to join Angie's List in order to warn you about John Ostop. He will walk off your incomplete job and disappear with your money. John Ostop left the following conditions when he abandoned the job (Major Administrative Issues) - Plumbing work was not signed-off with Department of Buildings. John Ostop did not pay the plumber resulting in plumber not completing paperwork for sign-off. John Ostop did not pay the electrician resulting in electrician not completing paperwork for electrical sign-off. John Ostop disappeared along with my original approved plans stamped and perforated by Department of Buildings. No plumbing sign-off meant no sign-off period for this project, this project remained open with Department of Buildings until plumber's payment was rectified and subsequent inspections completed. (Physical Conditions) - No hardware on doors. No door saddles installed. Some doors wouldn't close because not square. All sliding doors would grind rather than glide. Shower fixtures not installed. Shower floor not finished. Shower floor leaked downstairs. Tiles out of alignment and incomplete. Kitchen tile not installed. Only half of all electrical outlets installed. No light switches installed. Bathroom sink was hanging off drywall, not attached to anything structural. Icemaker and water filter not installed. Dryer vent was completely kinked, it never dried any clothes. Kitchen fan hood not installed. Broken grounding prong on washing machine, it emitted an electrical shock when touched. Omitted bathroom electrical outlet. Medicine cabinet light not installed. Various patches of unfinished flooring throughout. Kitchen countertop not attached, would slide off. I could go on and on... What work he did do was embarassingly shoddy. I researched the Department of Buildings website for former clients of his and contacted either them or their architects. They all had the same story as I have. Subs were stiffed, shoddy work, and sudden disappearance. Only one of them took him to court (and he didn't show up). I suspect very few clients go thru the extent to suing a general contractor; it is time consuming and clients really just want to focus on getting the job finished, as I did, and go on with their lives. Which is just what John Ostop is counting on. He work is of extremely poor quality and he defrauds you. Absolutely nothing professional about him, he is a fake.
Description of Work: Complete gut renovation of 1030 square foot apartment. New items not in old unit which required filing: New shower, new washer / dryer, new dishwasher, major electrical upgrade.
Worst experience I have ever had. Take the money and run would have been a better approach. Wall sockets were never put in, leaving the exposed wires. Sub par materials and workmanship were used. The floors began warping right away. Door handles were put on crookedly. Electrical appliances were installed incorrectly and dangerously. Tiles were not lined up properly, and the list goes on. He is a super nice guy who left me feeling like he was a pathological liar. Nothing he said ever came true. The job was supposed to take 3 months, ran way over budget and 12 months later I was still picking up the pieces.
Description of Work: He was hired to renovate our apartment including moving walls, replacing the floors, installing cabinetry and appliances, painting, etc.
