I asked if they could match the glaze color and they first said "no", then "maybe". I left the drawer and glaze. I returned about an hour later and the woman that had been waiting on me told me that she had knocked over the can of glaze I left with them. Mind you, this was the ONLY can of glaze that had the exact color for the faux finish we were trying to match and there was no marking on it indicating what the color mixture was. This drawer and the entire kitchen had been faux-finished about 8 years ago and there were no records of the colors used. I was a little angry, but they offered to match the glaze color, which they said they couldn't do earlier, and comp me for the quart of glaze. Sounded good so I went with it. I returned about 2 hours later after receiving a call from them. I have to give them credit for this, they did call me, whereas most people typically fail to follow-up. They give me the color and it looks a little thick. The tinted glaze I gave them was noticeably transparent, not 95% opaque. I go with it figuring they're the experts. I get it back to the apartment where we're working and when we put a sample down it's basically the consistency (and opacity) of paint. We thinned it out with some clear glaze, played around with it a bit and got close to the opacity we needed, but in the end the color just wasn't right. Another annoying thing: I asked them to match the base color for the faux finish and the guy at the front desk basically flipped to the whites in the color swatch and pretty much made me pick. I'm a little peeved at the first experience at the store, but I returned to pick up some paint for the dining room. We've been painting the entire apartment (except for trim) in Benjamin Moore Regal Matte since the beginning of the project. Ceiling, walls; all matte. I go to the store to pick up the color Cream in the Regal matte finish. Now this could be my mistake, but I just assumed when you ask for matte, you'll get matte. I leave the paint off for my guys Friday who assume that the paints I give them are the ones they should use. I then get this message from the customer in an email Sunday night: "The walls have flat Cream paint on them and the cans of Cream paint now in the dining room are flat paint. We assume this is just being used as primer and that ultimately the dining room walls will get two coats of Cream Regal Matte." Yeah, they gave me flat when I paid (and asked) for matte. I think I told the guy at the counter three times that it needed to be matte and he just kept yes-ing me. I thought maybe it was just me and I was being picky the first time, but after the second visit I can safely say these guys really need to tighten up on the quality control. Aside from the issue with the paint sheen, the cashier was giving me some serious attitude.
Description of Work: I paid two visits to their store on west 72nd street. The first time I went to Janovic with a can of tinted glaze and a drawer (that had been faux-finished with the glaze and an unknown base color) from my customer's apartment. I needed the glaze color computer matched, a quart of the glaze mixed and a quart of the base color. On the second trip, I attempted to purchase 1 gallon and 2 quarts of Benjamin Moore paint in Regal Matte finish.
