I called the 800 Number and was able to get a timely appointment for someone to come over and give me an estimate. They showed up at my house on time and with a large collection of carpet samples. He quoted me a price, I chose the carpet I wanted, and we set up a time for installation. They were flexible with times and were able to accommodate my schedule. Everyone I dealt with was professional and courteous. The price seemed fair, although I didn't comparison shop, so I don't know for sure. I most likely could have saved a little if I shopped around, but the whole experience was so hassle-free that it was worth any extra money I might have spent. The only small issue I had was that we had set up an appointment before noon on a Saturday, and they didn't show up until 2:30 or so (they called that morning to let me know that, and it turned out not to be a problem as I was home all day). But I was more than satisfied with the product, installation, and service.
Description of Work: A raw wood staircase and landing in my basement was carpeted.

The salesman was punctual, professional, and polite. He was very clear in explaining the options for both carpet and hardwood flooring. The whole job was done very well. My husband and I are very pleased with the job and would probably hire them again. The only down side was the fact that the wood floor guys spoke no English and my Spanish is very limited so it meant communication often got botched. I was happy with the flooring options given but there were only a few.
Description of Work: I needed 2 small jobs done, carpet in the family room (approximately 200 square feet) and hardwood flooring installed in the front hallway (approximately 100 square feet). Two jobs meant 2 teams of guys, both were able to show up on the same day since the areas were in separate parts of the house. Both teams moved the furniture when necessary and moved everything back without breaking anything. Everyone showed up on time and worked quickly and efficiently to get the job done.

WE ARRANGED TO HAVE CARPET AND LAMINATE FLOORING INSTALLED THROUGH THIS VENDOR. THE SALESPERSON ADVISED THAT THE ONLY THING WE WOULD HAVE TO DO WAS TO MAKE SURE SMALL THINGS WERE PICKED UP OFF THE FLOOR, THAT THE INSTALLERS WOULD MOVE THE FURNITURE, MAKING PROMISES NOT KEPT. WHEN THE CARPET INSTALLERS CAME, THEY ADVISED THEY COULDN'T MOVE THE FURNITURE AS IT WAS TOO BIG AND THAT THEY COULDN'T WAIT FOR MY HUSBAND TO MOVE IT. WE RESCHEDULED THE CARPET INSTALLATION FOR THE END OF THE WEEK. WHEN THE CONTRACTORS ARRIVED FOR THE FLOORING INSTALLATION, THEY ADVISED THAT THE PLYWOOD SUB FLOORING WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE. I HAVE LESS THEN 300 SQ. FT. TO COVER AND THIS IS ALREADY A TWO DAY JOB. THE CONTRACTORS HELPED THEMSELVES TO REFRESHMENTS OUT OF MY REFRIGERATOR, AND DID NOT CLEAN UP AFTER THEMSELVES LEAVING DEBRIS IN MY FRONT YARD. I HAVE INCURRED A FINE FROM MY TOWN AS WELL AS MY CONDO ASSOCIATION. THIS HAS BEEN THE WORSE EXPERIENCE WITH A CONTRACTOR THAT I HAVE EVER HAD.
Description of Work: INSTALLATION OF LAMINATE FLOORING AND BURBER CARPET IN LESS THEN 600 SQUARE FEET. THE FLOORING TOOK TWO DAYS TO COMPLETE. THE CARPET INSTALLATION WAS PUT ON HOLD DUE TO ISSUES WITH MOVING FURNITURE.

Based upon calling during the expected time of the appointment to say that they were canceling due to overbooking, this is a grossly unprofessional manner to treat prospecting customers let alone former major customers.
Description of Work: I was a prior customer (whole house wall to wall). I made an appointment for an in house estimate for re-carpeting of family room, basement stairs and landing as well as hardwood flooring for the kitchen. This appointment required both my wife and I to be present. The appointment was set for Saturday, March 3, 2007 between 9 and 11AM. We were called again to remind us of the appointment and that we both had to be here. On Saturday, 3/3/07 at 9:15AM Empire Today called me to say that they would not be keeping the appointment as they are overbooked.

It was a horror. They said they would be there between 8-6 they came at 5:45 and did not leave until after midnight. I had already ripped up half of the existing carpet before they got there most of the furniture was out of the room. The carpet looks great but I have never experienced an install that took this long. If they felt that the install would take this long they should have scheduled me earlier in the day. I had to go to work the next day and have kids that had to go to school.
Description of Work: Installed new carpet in living room, hallway and stairs.

We are happy with the finished job, the 3 man work crew was polite, but spoke little English so communication was difficult. Since it was a big job - we expected them between 8-9 am; but they did not arrive until about 11 am the job extended late into the evening (around 8:30 pm) and we were at risk for being fined by the Cooperative Apartment for working beyond the prescribed time.
Description of Work: Remove old carpet and padding and install new in a 2 bedroom duplex, includes stairs, office area, living & dining (@1200 sq feet).

The project went well. The carpet was lovely. After the installation we realized that the padding was too high in the closets and we couldn't close the doors. The customer service was EXCELLENT, they came right away and fixed the problem.

As soon as the 3 installers entered my home I knew I was in trouble. The only one that spoke English just kept complaining about installing the carpet on the stairs. The other 2 started removing the old carpet. The job was to be completed in one day. At 9 pm, with my entire upstairs in a turmoil, they said they would have to come back the next day. When they returned I called Empire and told them I did not want this crew. They had no idea how to install carpet, had broken the door on my armoire (and never told me) tried to use my old padding instead of replacing it and were more concerned with their cell phone calls then their jobs. It took 6 days to complete the job, with a new crew. The installation leaves much to be desired. I have emailed numerous times and have called Empire Customer Service at least 15 times to try to get a Customer Care Pkg that includes the warranty info. I still have not received one. I would NEVER use this company again, and I suggest you look elsewhere.
Description of Work: I purchased high end carpet from Empire Today on June 25, 2006 and contracted to have them remove the old carpet and padding and install carpet in 3 bedrooms, hall and staircase.

The salesman was very friendly and prompt. He showed me various flooring samples and offered me two different types of molding finishing options. He came on a Friday, and his crew was at my home bright and early Monday morning. They were courteous and professional and did an excellent job. At one point, they explained that they had run out of materials and needed to return to the warehouse but would be back within the hour. They returned as promised. It seemed as though the sales rep. did not measure accurately, but there was no additional charge to me for the mishap. The installers cleaned up behind themselves and explained to me not to use harsh chemicals when cleaning. The floor looks fabulous and is actually quieter to walk on. I live in an upstairs unit, and my neighbor downstairs can never hear me in the kitchen. I see the warranty on the floor is 25 years, and I feel it was money well spent, and it definitely adds value to my home.
Description of Work: They installed new laminate flooring in my kitchen with molding. They did not rip up the tile that was originally there, but the salesman explained to me that if I wanted them to do that, it would be an additional $639. The additional charge for ripping up the old tile was written in the contract.

My experience was not good at all. One guy dropped the carpet on my screen door and bent the frame. They left razor blades and objects under the carpet. They padded over the overflow drains in the basement. When water needed to run into overflow the padding and the carpet got wet. I had to pull up carpet. That is when I found razor blades. When they came back a second time to remove object from under the carpet upstairs, they tracked mud on my new eggshell carpeting they had installed and did not offer to clean it. They do not wear shoe covers. However, Empire did have someone come and replace the whole carpet in the basement after the bad experience and their service was much better. The workers were excellent, clean, careful and courteous. So a bad thing did turn out good.

The guy came out and told me what I could get. They told me I have to move the furniture and take out my own carpeting. The contract said they would do that for no extra charge. The company believed something totally different. We set up an appointment and they came out on a Friday but my house isn't finished. The contractor quit midway through the job. They came on Saturday but weren't supposed to, so they came by on Sunday afternoon to do the floor. They showed up and finished the job - even though the guys from Empire said they don't work on Sunday. The office thought they were coming on Monday. They cut up our whole weekend.
Description of Work: I hired them to take up the carpeting and replace with new flooring in three different rooms.

Came on time for estimate. Was polite. Met warehouse price for carpet. Price estimated and final price charged were the same. Installed 24 hours after estimate as promised. Had only one problem: The floor to be carpeted had vinyl tile on it. When the carpet was installed, it raised the level of the floor. This caused all of the closet doors (14 total) not to be able to be shut or open. Neither the person who did the estimation or the installer told me the doors would have to be trimmed. If they had we could have removed them prior to installation. When they started to install the carpet, I saw that the closet doors would not move. This meant that all of the doors had to be taken out, some with a lot of difficulty because the carpet tacking strips had been installed. We actually had to take the rollers off 8 of the doors to get them off the closets. Original estimator should have told us to remove the closet doors because they would all have to be trimmed.

Excellent- very professional and conscientious. Also had the best quote of three estimates. Very punctual for initial estimate and was able to start work right away. Finished all work including scraping, stain and three coats of polyurethane in 5 days for our 4 bedroom house. Also gave me a referral for a painter! Would strongly recommend without reservation.

Called and scheduled appointment two times but the first time they emailed me to contact them but the phone wait was too long on several occasions. The second time an appointment was made and confirmed for the hour between 7 and 9 pm but it was a no-show. At 9pm, I called to find out what happened to the person who was at another location. He never called to reschedule nor apologize for wasting my time.

THE PRICE WAS KIND OF HIGH, AND THE RESPONSIVENESS WAS SLOW. THEY CLEANED UP THE MESS, AND EVEN PUT THE SOME OF THE OLD FLOORING INTO RECYCLE BINS. I DONT KNOW IF I WOULD HIRE THIS COMPANY AGAIN, BECAUSE OF SOME OF THE THINGS THAT HAS HAPPENED.
