Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
I am sorry for not calling this person back, but her narrative is completely incorrect. She never spoke to me directly. I did receive a voicemail from this member, and she left her phone number. I did not get back to her as I should have, due to my working incredibly long hours these last few weeks- as well as the sheer volume of phone calls & emails I am receiving for new projects. She states in her complaint that she was transferred to an "Order taker." This is impossible as all calls go directly to my personal phone, as I am not "big" enough to have a secretary. In fact I am the one person who does everything on the business side of things, as the only people I hire are on-site workers. Essentially I am completely hands-on. Either this client has me mixed up with another company, or she feels the need to exaggerate due to the fact that most people would find it petty that someone would make such a fuss over one voicemail that was not returned.

Peter provided a free estimate following a home visit. He seemed professional and easy to get along with. However, he never responded to my followup questions on his estimate and my ask for his availability. I can only assume he didn't need or want my business.

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
I want to apologize to this member again (as I did previously via email) for not responding in a timely manner to her questions. I have really been overwhelmed by an onslaught of both work, estimates, emails & phone calls. I have been doing numerous 10-11hr days at jobsites, only to have to deal with capping off the day with free estimates & hours of computer work. I would like to think that the amount of requests for my services reflects well on my work, as well as my treatment of clients. Unfortunately it can reach a point where things get overwhelming, to put it mildly. I would rather put my energies in doing incredible work for people who have contracted me to do so, but I also don't want to be in the position of shunting others in an untoward manner. Again my apologies for my not being responsive, but I really do get a large volume of emails daily and it can be very hard to keep up.

Peter said it would cost what it did cost, he said it would take a week, it did. He was perfectly professional, and from start to finish everything happened the way he said it would. He and his co-worker Oscar worked all day every day, they provided my building management with the appropriate insurance. The end result Is a beautifully finished job that you would never have known had just been done, it looks like it was an original fitting. Very clean, they cleaned up the work place at the end so that you wouldn't have known they were there. I ave no problem recommending Peter. I already have him quoting a new job.
Description of Work: Peter gave me an estimate to instwall five pendant lights. This included channeling into my solid concrete ceiling, laying electrical lines, spacing the lights, re-cementing the channelling, plastering, running line in the walls, replacing drywall, powdering, painting.

Overall job went very well. The bigger jobs went very smoothly and right in line with Peter's quotes. Lights were in stalled and operating very quickly without any issues. All but 1 of the smaller jobs also went well. 1 issue - the shower control handle wasn't 100% finished, however, that was largely out of Peter's control (shower handle manufacturer went out of business so he provided a functional fix but an aesthetically pleasant fix would have been much more expensive. He was very forthcoming and did not try to upsell me). Peter was punctual, respectful, and very informative. Would definitely use again. Good value
Description of Work: Did a bunch of small jobs including installing a dining room ceiling light, changing a bedroom lighting/ceiling fan control unit, adding electric socket covers, replacing a washer drainage tube, and repairing a shower control handle. Work was done on 2 separate days in roughly 3 hr intervals.

The job went extremely well. Peter stayed in good contact with us as the start date approached and throughout the job. He showed up on time every day. He oversaw all aspects of the job, which included bringing in a good, affordable plumber for some unanticipated work on the pipes. He worked efficiently, with one assistant, and made sure the job site was left in clean, organized condition at the end of each workday. Peter was conscientious about being in our home: he was careful where he put equipment, to avoid scratching surfaces; he also maintained an attitude of dignity and respect toward us (my wife and I were home all day throughout the job, in a 570 sq. ft. apartment). He made sure to consult with us on every significant choice during the job, so that we got exactly what we asked for. When encountering the inevitable surprises and problems that come with a renovation, Peter maintained a calm demeanor and handled everything professionally and confidently. His calmness allowed us to remain relaxed throughout the job (which hasn't been the case when we've had work done in the past). For a number of small add-on items (which weren't in the original contract), Peter charged us a VERY reasonable price. Overall, we were tremendously impressed by Peter's knowledge and aesthetic judgment. More than anything, I want a contractor who knows the difference between high-quality fixtures/installation and mediocre. Peter knows the difference. He also has an excellent eye, which makes him a good consultant on questions of appearance. As for price, we found his quote to be very reasonable, 33% lower than that of another reputable contractor we've worked with in the past. (BTW, nearly one-third of his price, which I've noted here, was for a custom-made vanity.) Our bathroom had been the worst room in the apartment, with a twenty-year old particle-board vanity, a blinding "dressing room" light board over the rusted, builder's-grade medicine cabinets, and no ceiling lights. Now, with excellent fixtures perfectly installed and an impeccable patch-and-paint job, the room looks like something you'd see in a designer brochure. So let's see: would we recommend Peter Demos? Only if you want excellent workmanship at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: Bathroom renovation including: 1) replacement of old vanity with custom-made vanity; 2) replacement of old wall-mounted medicine cabinets with new semi-recessed cabinets, which required opening the wall and framing the recessed cabinets; 3) replacement of old vanity countertop and sink with new countertop and sink; 4) replacement of old toilet with new toilet; 5) installation of recessed ceiling lights; 6) replacement of old wall-mounted medicine cabinet lights with new medicine cabinet lights; 7) replacement of old showerhead with new showerhead; 8) replacement of door knobs; 9) installation of towel hooks; 10) replacement of old electric switches/outlets with new; 11) replacement of old sink faucet with new faucet; 12) patching and painting of walls, ceiling and door.

He is great. He is on time and he does excellent work. He pays attention to details. I am currently waiting for the permits for him to do the ground floor. I paid $9000 on the basement job. He did a lot of work. He was worth the price. It is very easy to work and communicate with. He is trustworthy. I can depend on what he says. I have used a lot of contractors and he is one of the top people I have used. All the work he has done has been excellent. His price is reasonable. The quality has been excellent. He calls me more often than I call him. I will use him in the future.

We had a leak from the shower and needed to have the shower resealed. The work was done as estimated in a timely manner and the leak has stopped. In addition, he sealed the stone floor in kitchen and repaired a gap between stone kitchen floor and wood entry way using caulk that matched kitchen flooring grout. Final price was slightly lower than the estimate. Good communication by phone and email. Very trustworthy; had to leave him with keys to apartment and there were no problems.

We have been looking for a general contractor to work with us through a variety of projects and do an assortment of tasks himself. We think we've found our place in Chronos. I just bought the apartment and I live by myself. I am not very good at getting things done for the apartment. Based on the reviews, I was hoping that he would help me decide what to do not only with design but also with what fixtures to select and so on. On one particular instance I wanted some track lighting installed on the ceiling to light one table where my son does his homework. I bought something and he seemed to understand what was supposed to be done. But when he was done, it was ridiculous. It was lighting a very small part of the ceiling and it was completely useless. Even if I did not give him a good explanation, he should have known that it was not right. Maybe I was supposed to come up with a solution and he was only there to implement it. I was hoping that he would help me with deciding what to do. This was a small project. He ran into a problem which was not his fault. It is an old electrical system. When he changed the fixture he realized that something had not been done right at all. He had to do more work than he needed to. He did that. He told me about it and I agreed to the extra work. I thought he would spend about a day on the job. After 2 days he still was not done. The next day was a holiday and the building super was not too happy that he had to come back again. Things became a little difficult. After the weekend he was supposed to start somewhere else. He wanted to get the work done so everything was completely rushed at the end. I did not have a chance to tell him that what he did was wrong and that he would have to change it. I was left with something that I was not happy with. He did not really have a chance to do anything about it. I probably could have called him back and told him about it and got it done. He bought some light bulbs for my fixtures. He did not install them because he did not have the time to do it. I told him I would do it, but when I tried to do it, they were the wrong bulbs. They did not work. I had to go back to the store and buy new bulbs. First of all he had taken the money for my bulbs and then I had to go to the store to buy new bulbs. He was rushed for reasons that were not entirely his responsibility. I do not know how much of what happened was his responsibility, but I was not happy with the end result. I cannot tell about the price because I have no experience to compare it with. He gave me an estimate and then he had to change it for reasons that were not his fault. I was disappointed on the quality. He was easy to get in touch with and he communicated well over the phone and via email. He gave me an estimate quickly. My expectation that he would help me design something that made sense I was not happy about. He was late, but not horribly late. He was professional, but he asked me a lot of questions I could not answer. There were circumstances that may have been difficult. I may have been a difficult person because I did not know what I needed. I do not think I would use him again in th

Peter quoted the job, determined the amount of time it would take and what was required to execute the job. In all respects, Peter and his crew were punctual and professional. In this particular case, neither Peter nor I were satisfied with the initial result of the job so Peter immediately set about to re-apply the necessary effort and materials to make sure the end result was perfect. Even with the second application, the job was done 24 hours ahead of schedule. I would - and I imagine will - hire Peter/Chronos again.

Our bedroom walls and ceiling were uneven from years of applying plaster and paint on top of the old coats. We also had cracks running in all sides of walls, and a recent water leak from the roof left a huge water stain on our ceiling. Peter came in for an estimate and was very thorough in explaining to us what he would be doing to repair the damages. He was very flexible with the time scheduling to accommodate our needs. His staff was prompt, courteous and skilled. After many disappointing experiences with different contractors, Chronos delivered quality work for a very reasonable price. It was a pleasure working with Peter and his staff on this project and we would definitely contact Chronos again for future projects.
Description of Work: Scraped all loose material from wall & ceiling areas and plaster all surfaces to make the walls and ceiling even throughout. Installed crown molding and applied caulking on all cracks between moldings (base and crown) and the wall. Applied primer and two coats of paint for the walls, ceiling and crown molding.

I interviewed three contractors prior to Peter, and ultimately accepted Peter's bid because of his quick responsiveness, fair price, and clear plan for the scope of the project. Peter began as soon as the decoration application was accepted by the building, and finished the project exactly on schedule. The quality of work is first-rate, and the professional nature of the entire job was very much appreciated.

We have a 2-bedroom apartment that is about 1,200 sq feet. It had not been painted and the floors had not been refinished since we moved in 13 years ago. Chronos refinished the floors and painted all but 1 room of the apartment. They did the whole thing in about 2 weeks, including 1 week while we were in the apartment. They were very accommodating about our schedule, and during the week we were living there they put furniture back after they were done every day so we could live in the apartment at night. They did an excellent job with prep work. There was a lot of water damage and other damage to the walls, which they painstakingly fixed. The paint job came out well and the floors look great. I was so satisfied that I hired them to refinish our bathtub. They did a great job on the tub--it looks beautiful. Peter was great about communicating and keeping us up to date throughout the process. I would definitely use Chronos again.

I interviewed six contractors before I met Peter. I was immediately impressed by his professionalism, attention to detail and openness to involving me in all aspects of the job (as opposed to other contractors who had an arrogant "just leave it to me" attitude). Peter did a complete renovation including new bathroom, kitchen, flooring, lighting, painting etc. Peter is a mastercraftsman. He is highly skilled, meticulous and did an outstanding job. An example of this is: I was in the apartment when he was tiling the kitchen floor. He was supervising his worker to make sure the tiling was perfect even in the space under the stove where it would never be seen. He communicates extensively to make sure you get exactly what you want. The only downside of the experience for me was the way he handled delays. We had several delays in obtaining materials. Towards the end of the job, Peter became extremely frustrated with the delays (some of which he could have averted) and behaved in a less than professional manner. This, however, was a minor glitch in an otherwise excellent experience. I highly recommend him.

Peter and I had a hard time getting started because of my building's insurance issues (he had a $2 million coverage and the building required a $5million coverage). Once we finally settled on a date after a lot of back and forth, the process was very quick and painless. He arrived at 10am with a helper and they started working. They went out for lunch and cleaning supplies at 2pm, and they were completely finished with the work by 5pm that evening. Quick and very professional work!
Description of Work: I needed my walk-in closet to be converted to a home office, complete with electrical outlets (8 places to plug in a cord). I also needed that wall to be fixed from the work, replastered, and painted yellow. He cleaned the area very well at the end!

I was told that he could do the work, but is not a licenced electrician, and that although he's a general contractor, because of the size of the job, he'd "have to pass" in terms of lining up a licensed electrician. This being New York, with mostly coops, most of us I assume are using Angie's List to get in touch with licensed electricians. This is listed under electrical as licenced, but in fact, at least for a smaller job, is not.

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
I am listed as a General Contractor on this website. As a General Contractor, I bring on Licensed Electricians to perform work during my renovations. This is standard. I made this very clear to the member making this report. I also stated that I do do smaller electrical jobs on my own, when allowed. I was very clear to state that if her coop requires a licensed electrician, even for an outlet installation, that I would not be able to help her. My Electricians are too busy for smaller jobs. I received a phone call from this person, was more than honest with her in that the job was too small, unfortunately she feels the need to offer me a "bad grade." Not a particularly fair arrangement.

Peter Demos is a fabulously skilled builder, craftsman and artist. He did everything I wanted done and he did it perfectly. I'm looking for more rooms to renovate just so I can hire him again.
Description of Work: Chronos Contracting demolished a hideous old bathroom and completely remodeled it into a beautiful new one, including re-routing the waste disposal line, raising the ceiling, installing all new dry wall, tiling the walls and floors, installing all the plumbing fixtures, putting in a new toilet, staining and installing new doors, refurbishing a dresser into a vanity, painting the walls, putting up glass shelves. I had an excellent experience. I had delayed this renovation for a long time because I had heard such horror stories. I found Peter Demos of Chronos Contracting through Angie's List after my first contractor fell through. Peter is very service oriented, and he is a perfectionist. He is also very hands on. He worked with his staff closely on every aspect of the work. He consulted with me about every decision (I had no idea how many decisions there would be!) and he caught small flaws in the work as he went - and had them corrected. I chose him in part because he was email accessible - very important to me because I travel for work - and that worked well. He is thoughtful, has a strong design sense, and takes great pride in his work. He worked quickly and intensively. He warrantied his work, and he came back to install several items where the shipment of parts was delayed after the project was essentially finished. I highly recommend Chronos Contracting.
Description of Work: Chronos operated as the general contractor for my apartment renovation. The renovation involved the remodeling of the bathroom (last updated in the 1980s) and the kitchen (last updated in the 60s); rewiring of apartment's electrical system, including cable and telephone; wood floor refinishing; and repair, replastering, drywall, and repainting of walls, and installation of molding. The bathroom required gut renovation with the removal of everything down to the studs (except the tub); the walls completely redone to make them fully waterproof; installation of the sink and toilet; new wall and floor tile; repainting, and installation of all bath hardware (not to mention the installation of a really nice shower niche.) The kitchen was also stripped to the studs; new appliances and sink installed with new cabinets and appliances; and the installation of a beautiful irregular brick backsplash. The walls of the apartment had water damage so required extensive repair - drywall, repair of plaster, rebuilding of molding - in short, a complete transformation. Both the electrical and plumbing systems were substandard - all brought up to code and to modern standards with new fixtures. And the floors were sanded, repaired, and restained - gorgeous.

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
Working with this client was a good experience. He was clear about what he required and I feel that we did a fine job in producing what was needed. The work was in an older building, and there were some issues because of this, but things went well in general. The bathtub is a beautiful old cast iron from the 30's-40's, but was in bad shape as far as the finish. We were able to reglaze it and make it look and feel like a new tub. My apologies for starting the project later than we initially agreed to. I was backed up from a previous project, and was under a time crunch from both directions. All in all I feel it was a good job, though.

After scouting around and interviewing several contractors, I decided to use Chronos Contracting after a recommendation from a neighbor. It was clear that Peter Demos, clearly knew his stuff and had years of experience. From the outset I was very impressed with Peter Demos & Chronos Contracting. Prior to officially contracting Peter's services I had a number of questions about what would work well in the apartment. Even though I didn't yet officially hire his team, he was always very responsive, patient and courteous. He also educated me a lot about different options, lighting fixtures and gave his professional & honest opinion about what would and would not work well in the apartment. I was even more impressed with the Chronos Contracting team once they began to work in the apartment. The entire team was very professional, punctual and neat. Despite the fact that they had to do a lot of digging in the walls and the ceilings, they made a concerted effort to minimize the disruptions to the apartment....and they did a terrific job at it. Peter and his team arrived on time and left on time. Ultimately the job was completed on time and within the estimate that he and I discussed. All in all working with Peter was a very enjoyable experience and the work they did was terrific. Despite the fact that I used him primarily for electrical work and painting Peter is a General Contractor so he and the Chronos Contracting team can do a number of things within ones home, apartment or place of business. I would highly, highly, highly endorse Chronos Contracting. The work they did in my apartment was absolutley terrific. When I have future remolding needs Chronos Contracting and Peter Demos will definitely be one of the first people I call.
Description of Work: I hired Peter Demos of Chronos contracting to do some electrical, sheet rock, painting and lighting instalation in my apartment in Brooklyn. In particular Chronos Contracting installed new electrical outlets, they ran conduit wires and installed new junction boxes, they also installed lighting fixtures including hanging pendants, semi-flush lights, sconces and under cabinet lighting. Additionally, the sheetrocked and painted the apartment.

Several of the walls were originally coated in dark paint and required some plastering and multiple new coats. The ceilings feature exposed beams throughout, and Peter took exceptional care with this important detail. All floors and furnishings were well protected, and the job was well organized and timely so that our home life was not too disrupted.
Description of Work: All walls and ceilings of apartment painted different shades of white (kitchen, dining room, living room, hall, two bedrooms, some cabinetry).
