The job involved installing a full kitchen with new appliances, converting an office into a nursery, relocating doors and closets, building a transom window in a wall, and finishing (plaster, mouldings, paintings). Our experience with Peter Demos and Chronos Contracting was excellent. From the beginning, Peter kept in constant touch, responding promptly to emails and voicemails even during the estimating process. This continued throughout the job, as he updated us frequently on the progress, and consulted us whenever there were decisions to be made about materials, design, etc. In addition to installing a complete kitchen, the job involved closing off several existing doorways or wall openings with sheetrock, building new door openings for two closets, building a large transom window into an existing wall, creating a new architectural arch in an alcove, and patching walls and ceilings where existing walls had been removed by a previous contractor. Peter and his crew did a very high quality job. The wall work and plastering is very solid and smooth, with great attention to detail on the mouldings, carpentry and painting. The newly refinished rooms are now the best looking rooms in our apartment. We're extremely pleased with our new kitchen. The installation involved a significant amount of carpentry to build crown moulding to cover a six-plus-inch gap between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling. The cabinets are solid and seamless. Peter's crew was personable and professional. They did a great job of keeping the construction dust and debris concentrated in the areas under construction, and cleaning up outside of that area, which was important since we were occupying the unit while construction was being done. We're very pleased with the results and would highly recommend Peter and Chronos.

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
Working with this family was a very positive experience. We kept up a good line of communication during the process, which is always key. The process itself was not easy for the clients, as they were living in the apartment during the work, but we tried to make things as livable as possible. Given that the project involved most of the apartment, our solutions were limited to using plastic "zip walls" to quarantine the dust, as well as thorough daily cleanings. The work itself was interesting, as we were changing certain aspects of the layout, in addition to renovating the Kitchen. Their choice of cabinets, countertop & tile were well made, and the new design allowed them to almost double their Kitchen especially regarding counter space. Walls were skimcoated, an arch and transom were constructed, and in the end they had a very different looking apartment. They chose Farrow & Ball paint, and the final finish was very stunning. Again, I enjoyed working with these folks, and I hope they continue being satisfied with their new home.

Peter and his team did an excellent job. They were punctual, professional and delivered quality work. When we originally asked for an estimate we didn't know how much we wanted to do ourselves and Peter took the time to price out everything and give us options. We chose to do a lot of demolition ourselves and went with Peter for the new installation. They paid careful attention to detail and a couple of times when we had minor issues, Peter resolved them immediately. Peter's also a friendly, amiable guy; it was nice getting to know him. It's likely that we will turn to Peter again to work on other remodel projects in our home.

I was very happy to work with this couple. They were very friendly and communicative throughout the process. Very pleasant to work with. They were able to clearly spell out what they wanted, and I feel that were able to more than fulfill that. We were able to add a couple of outlets to the existing room and we updated some of the electrical as well. I think our skimcoating work helped make the Living room look much fresher. Again, I am happy to have worked for this couple, and I appreciate the kind review.

Peter and Chronos Contracting are prompt in their communication and very professional with their estimates, length of work days, what to expect, etc. Their fee was very fair for the amount of work they had to get done. They were always on time and were very careful not take up space and they really went the extra mile to make sure the details were just right - everything lined up, the work was plumb and really well-crafted, no mess left behind, trash was quickly removed, dust was cleaned. The result is obvious - both bathrooms look great.
Description of Work: First project - removed old bathroom floor, along with cracked sub-flooring. Removed toilet and sink for safety. Poured new, level sub-floor and installed small black and white tiles - level, smooth and expertly done. Toilet and sink were put back (better than before). Second project - stripped shower tile and applied multiple coats of sealer to create an even and color-correct finish. A broken stone tile was removed and replaced with an identical one. You can't tell where they fixed it, which is exactly what we wanted.

Peter responded quickly and we set an appointment for an estimate a few days later. He arrived promptly and walked through everything with me - he was very professional and knowledgeable, and seemed to understand everything we wanted to do. We had to go with a different contractor in the end but the quote was reasonable and very detailed.

When I started interviewing contractors, I felt at a loss. It wasn't even the money factor --it was that intangible something that makes you know this is the right person for the job. Mine was too small a job for most but Peter listened to what I needed to be done. Like others he had bigger jobs on his plate. I decided to be flexible and patient and that paid off. He was worth waiting for. I can only mirror every other review before mine. Peter and his crew take great care with all they do and then they do more than you ask for. We had the added interruption of Hurricane Sandy to deal with and that lengthened what was initially meant to be a short job into a much longer one. Rather than cut corners to get on to his next client, Peter carefully finished every detail of my tiny job. His carpenter designed and built a custom vanity to fit under my sink. It's a beautiful stained oak and I'm very happy with it. At every turn, Peter would suggest something I hadn't thought of and would add another touch to the job, taking it one step higher. Clean-up each night and at the end of the job was fastidious. I would definitely hire Peter and his crew again.
Description of Work: Two sets of ancient, heavy sliding doors and tracks were replaced with new doors and tracks. The new doors were painted as well. My bathroom was remodeled. The original sink was retained but the faucet was replaced and a new oak vanity was designed and constructed. A new bathroom shelf was constructed behind the toilet and three oak floating shelves were put up. The entire bathroom was plastered and painted. Three grab bars were installed for dual use as towel racks and grab bars. New caulking was applied to the bathroom sink and tub. The old damaged porcelain soap dish in the tub was removed and replaced. An extending mirror was installed on the wall.

t Although his bid was not the lowest oneI received, I selected Peter Demos from Chronos Contracting to do the above job because he had very good Angie's List reviews and seemed capable of helping me get the job done in the time frame I wanted. He was confident his people could do everything I wanted, which included electrical work, painting, plastering and water damage repair in three rooms of my apartment. That turned out to be the case. Peter's workers, which in my case included an electrician and several painter/plasterers, were very competent and a pleasure to deal with. They were punctual, cleaned up after themselves, kept the workspace as ordered as possible given the circumstances, and arrived as scheduled. Peter keeps a busy schedule and had a lot of work at the time, so his schedule was less predictable, but he usually checked in by phone every morning and physically came by to inspect the work almost every day so we were able to discuss any concerns I had. We also communicated by text messaging and email when any issues arose. Because we both have demanding schedules, Peter and I had some difficulty setting a start date, but once we finally got the project rolling, it went quickly. There was only one delay of about two days where Peter and crew had to finish up a previous job that "spilled over," and since mine was the newer job, I took a back seat for those two days. Other than that, everything was on schedule as we had agreed upon. I was on a deadline to get the job done by a certain time because I had to use the space to work without interruptions and upheaval. I am extremely pleased with the way the job turned out, and my apartment looks great due to the renovations. Peter was always prepared with helpful suggestions, and his electrician, Linden, is a sweetheart and extremely capable. Oscar, the lead painter/plasterer, is a master at what he does, and although he and I communicated in broken Spanish and English, everything went well. I truly enjoyed his happy demeanor. Throughout the job, Peter made helpful suggestions, like suggesting an Internet company from whom I ordered the lighting, which arrived in about two days. The company, Y Lighting, is extremely helpful and also delivered their order quickly. I have a lot of furniture and belongings, and the workers were careful moving things. I didn't expect that they would, but at the end of the day, they even moved my couch back to it's original position and uncovered my TV so I could watch TV at night, even though they would have to move it again in the morning. Finally, this was an expensive repair for me, and eventually went slightly above my initial budget. I got much more than I bargained for when Peter agreed to paint the entire living room and dining room for much less than his normal price. He did this after recognizing my financial limitations and my desire to get it all done at once, rather than in two separate jobs, which would have been more work for everyone involved. This generous offer was completely unexpected and proved that he is a reasonable contractor who listens, and understands his customers. I believe this is why his previous customers have given him high reviews. If I have more of this type of work, I would trust Chronos Contracting and owner Peter Demos to get the job done and do an excellent job.
Description of Work: The project was to install track lighting in the entry hallway of my two-bedroom Windsor Terrace (Brooklyn) apartment, which included installation of the track and fixtures on two sides of the living room and also in an adjacent hallway leading into the living room. This included bringing electricity to the living room ceiling so the tracks would work, as well as installing new switches on the walls to control the lights. I also had an electrical outlet moved in my office, and an undercabinet light with switch installed over my desk. The entire living room and dining room areas were plastered, primed and painted. In the dining room, a hole in the ceiling made by a previous unsatisfactory electrical contractor was repaired and patched, a new fixture was installed in that location and an electrical problem that involved a previous electrical contractor who remodeled my kitchen was addressed with new switching and new wiring, without breaking into the walls. This was fortunate, as I was hoping to avoid breaking open more walls to correct this. Water-damaged areas on the ceiling and around the windows in the master bedroom and the office were repaired with scraping and sealing, the whole area was primed and then then painted with two coats.

Contacted Peter by phone and set up an appointment. He was a no show so I called and he told me he forgot to put me on his calendar. We rescheduled for the next day and he came and looked at my bathroom which needs a complete new shower system and tiling along with tub resealing, possible reglazing. I also told him I'd be interested in a quote to remodel the whole bathroom for sake of matching tiles and fixtures. He said he'd email the estimates in a day or so - never heard back.

Peter and his crew did a very thorough job on all the repairs we had done, and were great about cleaning up after themselves each day.We had work done on 3 different floors in our house, and we also have a 3 year old boy running around. They handled everything with ease, and made sure that I knew what they were doing every step of the way. While a few things turned out to be easier then initially thought, some of the electrical and demo work turned out to be a little more complicated. Peter helped figure out a solution to all these new problems, and went beyond the work we agreed on. All while sticking to his estimate and timeframe. We would definitely use Chronos again, and in fact recommended them to our next door neighbors.

Didn't hire Peter but went with someone my wife had worked with previously.
Description of Work: I left a message for Peter Demos explaining our project - remodeling a kitchen in an 1100sf duplex NoHo loft. Plus total painting (2 coats) including 2 baths, and refinishing the floors with 3 coats of poly. This meant demo and disposal of the old kitchen after removing and protecting all the existing appliances, assembling and installing new IKEA cabinets, installing a new quartz counter and tile backsplash with under-cab LED lighting, replacing 12 water shut off valves throughout the condo, then reinstalling and hooking up all the appliances. And of course dealing with the complex insurance and working restrictions typical in a Manhattan Condo. The complicating factor was that we live in California and the NY loft is one that we rent out so we needed someone who would be reliable and communicative as well as competent,. Peter called back promptly and set up an appointment with our tenant to view the job site. He showed up on time and got back to me in a very short time with a very detailed estimate ($26,500) which was pretty much what I had expected the job to cost. So I was pleased that there were no surprises there. My wife is an architect and we have a fair amount of experience in dealing with contractors and know how many things can go wrong. In talking to Peter I felt he would be reliable as well as competent. The only reason we didn't go with him was that my wife chose to go with a contractor she had worked with before (whose quote was actually somewhat higher than Peter's) just because she already had worked with him and had a personal relationship. Next time around we would not hesitater to call Peter and would feel comfortable working with him long distance.

I can honestly say that I have never been so pleased with services for which I have contracted. This was not my first renovation project, but I live in New York only part-time and had no experience with contractors there. I got a few estimates which varied wildly; Peter's was extremely reasonable, yet the quality of his work is superior. I don't think that anyone else I consulted could have done a better job. And throughout the project, he went out of his way to save me money on materials, which enabled me to buy higher-quality paint and kitchen cabinets, tile, and countertops than I thought I would be able to, which made the end result even better. A lot of factors contributed to the difficulty of this project: the fact that I am in another city much of the time; the timing, with the project starting just before the holidays; my building's very strict work schedule and hands-on management of contractors; poor-quality work done by previous owners, much of which was not revealed until work for this project began; and a family emergency that required me to be out of commission for a significant length of time during the height of the project. But Peter handled all of this really well. Despite having to do more plumbing and electrical work than we originally anticipated, it went quite smoothly without a lot of the unpleasant surprises that are often part of the renovation process. One of the members of my building's coop board, who lives on my floor, praised the cleanliness and courtesy of the project team when I ran into her one day and she told me she had heard that the building staff were very impressed by their work. It was nice to make a good impression on the neighbors even before moving in. After the previous resident moved out, the apartment looked so bad (peeling paint, cracks in the plaster, very worn-looking wood floor, dubious jerry-rigged wiring, etc) I was not sure it would ever look particularly good. But Peter and his crew did a meticulous job of repairing and refinishing all of the surfaces--I have never seen plaster with such a beautiful, pristine finish, and the fine paint job really shows it off. The wood floors are also gorgeous, as is the tilework in the kitchen. The radiator covers and other cabinetry I had made are of extremely high quality and detailed to fit exactly with adjoining baseboards. The space is completely transformed. At the end of the project, rather than rushing to get on to the next job, Peter and his crew thoroughly cleaned the apartment. I had thought I would have to hire a service for some serious post-renovation cleaning, but I was able to do the residual cleaning myself--again saving money. I would strongly recommend Chronos Contracting for any job, large or small.
Description of Work: For a one-bedroom, ~800-square-foot prewar apartment in Manhattan: gut renovation of kitchen, updating of electrical and plumbing, repair/skim coating/painting of walls and ceiling, refinishing of hardwood floors, reglazing of bathtub, installation of ceiling fan and new light fixtures, design and installation of new radiator covers and built-in banquette. I had not yet moved in, so the apartment was empty.

The work went extremely well. I cannot be more pleased. The rooms look fantastic. After my call, Peter came to look and sent me a emailed estimate very quickly. He was easy to talk to and very knowledgeable about what needed to be done. When we set the date he arrived on time that day and every morning thereafter until the work was done. Each day he showed me what they had accomplishe and what was next. I was consulted on any issue that came up. He also did some extra things like replacing all the electrical outlets in the room and fixing the doorknobs to the bedroom and bathroom doors. I am very happy with his work and I am thinking of using he for other renovations that need to be done in my apartment
Description of Work: The work was done in the second bedroom and bathroom of my apartment. The wall and ceitlings were scraped patched and plastered. Fibermesh sheeting was applied. Walls were skincoated primed and given two coats of paint Putty was applied on concave areas of mouldings. Cracks were caulked and sanded. Bedroom parquet floor was sanded and sealed. Four coats of water based polyurethane was applied to flooring. In the bathroom exposed pipes were enclosed with wood soffits with cutouts for venting the and lined with radiator screens. Shelves were built to span the two soffits. All wood was primed and painted with two coats. A light fixture was installed as well as a medecine chest. The shower base was reenameled.

I've answered this in the previous section. I'm very happy not only with the finished product but with the very conscientious way that Chronos treated the job -- and me.
Description of Work: Chronos paid me a couple of visits, to understand as well as it could what work I needed. Peter was very responsive to what I wanted, and he followed up with return phone calls and email, to make sure that I understood what my options were and what they would cost. I think that understanding his clients, and outlining in simple terms what he can do for them -- without weighing them down with jargon or exaggerated promises -- is an important ethic for Peter. He's honest, and what he brings to his jobs is a set of skills that he has no need to trumpet to potential customers. Once we agreed on what was to be done, Peter got the people and materials that he needed -- and he never bothered me with details, or whined about things that were too complicated, or asked for any reimbursements when some things went over cost. The job entailed a number of disparate tasks, requiring a team of workers with different skills: There was drywall reconstruction to do -- some involving installing new insulation -- and there was painting a number of different surfaces, each of which had some extent of deterioration. The hardest part was matching paint color to the lousy initial paint job that I'd been saddled with upon taking occupancy here. His chief painter, Oskar, is extremely exacting in his work. His meticulousness means that I can't tell where his new work ends and the old surfaces on my walls begin. When I had an additional request, for a small area to be planed and sanded that I'd not asked for in the initial work agreement, Peter good-naturedly did the task without asking for compensation. He embodies the best of what I imagine craftsmen and members of guilds had in days of yore: decency, integrity, and an uninflated sense of self.

I have worked for this client on a few separate occasions. Work always seems to intersect with conversations on Jazz & politics. A really good guy to work with. Regarding this latest project- this client, unfortunately, bought an apartment in a building that was shabbily constructed by a typically corrupt developer. Long story short, he ended up suffering from water damage due to numerous leaks in the roof. We came in and re-sheetrocked in areas that were damaged, and painted a good deal of his apartment. All in all, I think we left the place in far better shape than when it was purchased "new." Happy to have such a kind review.

Working with Chronos Contracting was a phenomenally good experience. Peter made less mess with the entire project than I make drilling a hole. The quality of work completed was excellent. Peter is a perfectionist and did additional work at no cost to ensure the overall result was great. We will use Chronos again without hesitation. Our apartment was clean throughout the process and all the tools and gear were out of our way at the end of every work day. Peter did what he said he would do and more. On budget. We brought a lot of contractors to bid on the project and Peter gave us a competitive and fair price. He was very attentive to our needs (proof of insurance, contract, details) and kept us up to date on the status of the project , showed up when promised and always returned our phone calls or e-mails. His crew left the house very clean before finishing the workday and they completed the job by the targeted date. Everything they did was done with a lot of attention to detail and with great quality, our friends had told us how great things looked. Peter has also given us good ideas on what to do around the house and referrals to other contractor outside his specialty when needed. We have recommended him to our friends and we are planning on having him do additional painting / work in the house soon.
Description of Work: We bid a project to paint our main floor (living room, kitchen and stairwells) and to paint the exterior cornice. We were very happy with his work and we brought him the following year to refinish the ironwork outside the house and under the deck and fix the basement staircase.

I have done a few projects for these clients over the years. They are a really good couple to work with, as they know what they want and are polite within their high expectations. Purchasing an older home is difficult, especially when some of the previous work has been done is a shoddy manner. I think we have improved things by correcting many of the problems there. Good people, I hope to work with them again on future projects.

Work took perhaps 4 hours the first day and another 1 1/2 hours the second day. EXPENSIVE but everything works fine now. "All's well that ends well." The plumber was friendly and even showed me how to remove tiny halogen bulbs in a flickering under-counter light fixture.
Description of Work: Constantly running toilets: replace entire flushing mechanism and flapper in two toilets. Plumber had to come back another day because he did not have needed parts with him. Dripping faucet: repair bathroom faucet. Plumber could not take the faucet apart; therefore, both faucets had to be removed in tact and taken into the shop.

Their estimate was $7000. They were very personable, very nice, very thorough and they were professional but I thought their quote was a high. I went with another company with a lower quote. The quote was so much higher than what I got and I got the exact work done. I would not consider them again only because of the high quote.
Description of Work: Chronos Contraction came out in February this year and gave me an estimate to remodel my dining room.

I called the number listed for plumbing and got only a busy signal. I then tried another number listed in their ad and after four tries got their answering machine. I left a message, but they never called me back.

Working with this client has always been a good experience. She has an excellent design sense and is always articulate regarding what she wants. The most recent project was a set of custom built-ins that I had fabricated for her. One was a dresser/cabinet unit, the other is a wardrobe/closet. The end product offered an increase in storage as well as woodwork pieces that fit quite well with the existing aesthetics of the room. I am glad that I was able to make this Angie's member happy with my work.

Disappointing. If he didn't want to take on the job, I'd have preferred him simply to say that it was too small for him, not up his alley, didn't have time, etc., rather than have him ignore me.
Description of Work: Peter came over to do an estimate for changing out a faulty shower body. He said he'd have his plumber call, but that never happened. He did not respond to an e-mail I sent, and I've never heard back from him. I had to find another plumber, who completed the job in 1 hour.

This client ignores the fact that I told her that I would not do the project myself, as there is asbestos on the pipes where her hot/cold water shut-off valves are situated. I clearly told her that I would not be doing the job for this reason- I am not keen on being exposed to any more asbestos. She & her husband stated that they were not interested in paying to have the asbestos removed. I I told them that I would give her number to my licensed Plumber, and that he would give her a call. I did give him her phone number, evidently he did not call her- most likely due to the fact that there is asbestos in the space that he would also be working in. I did go out of my way to travel to this client's home, offering free advice, and I did pass her info on to another Contractor. If he did not show an interest in the jobsite, that is not my responsibility.

After seeing all the good reviews here, I both emailed and called Chronos (used their website for this info) and left a message with my home phone to get schedule a visit for an estimate on bathroom remodeling. I am very disappointed I got no response at all. Not angry, just disappointed.

This member posted this "report' no more than three days after leaving me a voicemail. I have been deluged by calls, and have been having a difficult time keeping up. When I called her back to apologize, she was more than happy to set up an appointment with me for an estimate. When I called to confirm for the estimate she stated that she didn't need the renovation as she already had a buyer.

Everything went really smoothly. Peter was very accommodating with our busy schedule and not wanting to disturb the people at our office.
Description of Work: We needed to put up a wall for a back room. We needed the wall to be sound proof, etc. Peter did a great job working with us on consulting for the materials, etc. He then built the wall with two double doors with one other person.

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
Working for this company was a good experience. We had a good communication from the start, and I feel that I was able to deliver exactly what they were looking for. They needed to create a soundproof room in the back of their office, so we fabricated a wall with two separate frames so that sound would not vibrate via the studs. In addition we used a layer of Quietrock and a second layer of standard drywall with Greenglue sandwiched between them- on each side of the double wall. In the end they had a room that has a very high STC rating. In addition we constructed a closet for them in the front of the office, and ran new electrical lines for the lighting in the new room. We worked some really long hours in order to finish the project as quickly as possible, but overall it was as enjoyable as self-inflicted Calvinism can possibly be.
