Description of Work: called to get a quote and the guy wouldn't even answer if he was Peter, I asked him twice and he disrespectfully ignored the question and started speaking over me at which point I hung up. Who needs this when there are so many other options to choose from?

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
I receive endless phone calls from telemarketers and scammers looking to gather my personal information, or sell me garbage. Sadly, this is the price one pays for having a business phone number listed all over the internet. Due to this, I choose to screen my calls. When most people call someone for the first time, they tend to introduce themselves rather than demand to know who they are calling. Conversely, telemarketers open up by asking for me by name in an aggressive way and as if they know me. To a large extent this was the tone with this caller, which is why I asked if he was looking for work to be done in his home, or business. His reply was that he was looking to refer me to "someone." Because I get many calls from telemarketers selling low-grade Contractor referral services, I then asked him whether he was part of a referral company. At that point, as he admits, he hung up on me. The whole thing lasted about 15 seconds. I don't feel that I was speaking over him, rather I was trying to ascertain what the call was about. I was not being rude, nor did I hang up on him. I'm still not sure what his actual intentions were, as I've had telemarketers from far-flung Contractor referral outfits use Angies List to bother me while trying to build up their base. I am sorry if he isn't what I thought he might be. It's possible he may have been put off by the apprehension in my voice. On the other hand, I wouldn't hang up on someone for that reason. If it is true that he was genuinely trying to refer me to someone he has an actual connection with, then my apologies for the misunderstanding.
Description of Work: General carpentry and repairs, they were very professional, punctual and did a quality job, I will be using them again soon for bath upgrades and tile work.

Description of Work: Painted walls ( with some skim coating), refinished floors, |Removed cabinets and painted and added new hardware, steel brush cleaned window grates and painted, made radiator covers, installed track lighting, hung 2 chandeliers , upgraded all dimmers, installed hook-up for wall mounted t.v. | |They were excellent! Professional, accessible....overall great job. Only small negative comment is that they could have been a little better covering and closing off areas to prevent plaster dust spreading.
Description of Work: The job done by Chronos Contracting was as good as I could have hoped for. It was repair of extensive water damage to a ceiling and window area. As well as painting. Peter Demos, who is Chronos Contracting, listens to what you want. And then provides it. His time commitments are kept. The job is done the way discussed. It sounds simple, but in most cases in dealing with contractors, these things don't get done. With Peter, they do. He and his staff are the absolute best.

Description of Work: They replaced 5 windows in my apartment. They took longer to do the install than they said they would, cancelled their first install appointment and I had to call the morning they were supposed to arrive because they were late. But, their employees are courteous and they did a good job. They cleaned up and left things perfectly. They windows they use are just fine and function correctly. I did not need the windows to be anything extra-ordinary.

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
I never said I was too busy, merely due to the fact that this member lives in an area that had been flooded. I stated that I was booked solid and that I don't usually work in his area anyway, being that it is out of my way. I did give his number to an Electrician I recommend. If that Electrician did not get back to this member, it was probably due to his own schedule being packed. I am very sorry that this member has been struck by the effects of the hurricane. Many people have been suffering lately. But I am not happy about receiving this "report," just because I had clearly stated that I had a full schedule when he phoned me.

Description of Work: I orginally choose Chronos Contracting as I was lead to believe he would be available as he was alleged to be in Manhattan. I was wrong, he works out of Brooklyn and does not have any equipment as he takes the train to each location. I was aked to provide a flashlight and ladder. He seemed very nice over the phone and I agreed to meet. After he cancelled on two occassions, an hour prior to our scheduled meetings I began to get worried. After a detailed e-mail explaining for the cancellation I gave him another chance. He arrived and checked out the electrical issues for 3 hours and charged $200 as discussed. The matter was not resolved and it was established that the issue was behind the walls. He e-mailed me two quotes and itemized the work. I agreed, and then when it came time to set an appointment I was told that he had a larger job to renovate a brownstone in Brooklyn and the permits he was waiting for arrived. As a result he recommended another electrian that he knows of. He could not garantee the new electrian would have to do the same preliminary work (another $200.00?) that he did nor could he state what he would charge and if he would repair the walls after the electrical problem was fixed. Additionally, he is not listed in Angies list.

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
(Enclosed is the email that I sent to the Angie's List member who wrote this report. Essentially I was hoping to resolve this with him prior to posting my own response. I can understand and relate to someone being frustrated- but feeling the need to be dishonest in order to take out that frustration on someone else is a bit alien to me.) I am really confused as to why you wrote such an angry report on Angie's List. As I said in our last phone conversation, you should call me if there was any problems with the other contractor that I connected you with. I also stated that he would not charge you $200 again for the same troubleshooting work. Did he leave you thinking that was the case? If so then there was a miscommunication- something that I would have been able to fix. Regarding my not being able to do the work, I told you from the first estimate that it was likely that I would be on a larger job, which could interfere with my ability to deal with Phase II of the work. I reiterated this when I came for the initial troubleshooting (Phase I). I told you that I would connect you with another contractor if that happened- and I did just that. I think my main mistake was telling you that I could do the job on Wednesday and then changing that. That I am really sorry for. I also apologized for canceling when I was sick with the flu & homebound for 5 days. On the other hand I had told you that I was sick beforehand and could potentially cancel. In each instance I gave you more than 3 hours notice after initially stating that I may cancel, due to said flu. I am also kind of hurt that you would smear me by stating that I don't have my own tools because I took the subway, rather than deal with traffic and parking, for such a short initial visit. Forgetting a flashlight doesn't make me a charlatan, nor does asking if a client has their own stepstool. I mainly do larger renovations, and claiming that I don't have "equipment" is really unfair & untrue. I understand that you may be frustrated from your last experience at being ripped off by the contractor who initially renovated your apartment. On the other hand I am not the person who created that situation, and taking that out on me is unfair. I told you up front of my potential schedule conflict with the other job- something that I have been obliged to via a contract that pre-dated our first meeting. I also connected you to a colleague, as I promised I would do. In addition I asked you to call me if there was any problems with him, or questions. Beyond that, I really don't know what else there was to do. Again, I am sorry for getting your hopes up regarding my being able to do the work. I should not have vacillated last week. And I would be happy to try and iron things out with you if possible. Regards, Peter

This person initially left me a voicemail. The voicemail itself left me wondering if I should give her a return call, as her voice sounded strange. I did call and upon asking her the usual "How are you?" she darkly replied, "Not Good." She then proceeded to answer my questions, regarding the work, in a really hostile manner. She also asked me some questions in the same tone of voice. I stated that if this was not a good time to talk, it might be better to speak at a later time. She growled & hung up on me. I do get random phone calls like this every now & then and it's a bit eerie. I assume her seeing this as "too familiar" means that she does this to a lot of people, and part of a deeper pattern.
Description of Work: I left 2 messages on Peter's voice mail & never got a call back. Finally, I tried 1 more time and he answered. I told him I had a large job for him in Brooklyn (which he serves) and could I transfer him to my boss who would like to talk to him regarding an appt. time where they could discuss the job. My boss was going to be traveling there from another state to meet with him because we liked what we had read on Angie's List. BEWARE!! He was VERY RUDE & said he didn't want to hold and hung up!! He acted like he was too good to be put on hold. He was very UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

This is a false report by a telemarketer posing as an Angie's List member. The telemarketer works for hotelmakeover .com, and yes, after receiving numerous calls from this company I hung up the phone. This is a blatant conflict of interest, and having one company post negative reviews against another, is completely against Angie's List's rules. I will be bringing this to the attention of the appropriate person at this website. In addition, the proof is in the pudding. She says that I was unwilling to be put on hold in order to speak with her "Boss" who, without ever meeting me, "was willing to travel to another state to talk business with me." I should be so honored. Telemarketers have no place on Angie's List and should be removed. hotelmakeover.com is a Texas-based outfit that should be banned from using Angie's List. On a personal note, I think it is always a refreshing feeling when hanging up on a telemarketer. Sadly, the moment lasts only so long...

Description of Work: Peter Demos visited the property and promised to submit a quote for refurbishment of an apartment, including interior painting. A couple of weeks passed with no news of Mr Demos. When I sent him an email he basically said he was not interested in the job.

Response from CHRONOS CONTRACTING
This is really not a correct assessment of what has happened. After coming for the estimate and spending an hour of my time with the client's daughter, I found that he lives quite far out of the country (apx. 6000 miles southeast). The daughter said she too would not be in the country during the project. Nevertheless I still sent them a quote via email, in case things changed in that regard. It did seem like a good project. After stating that they were interested in proceeding, the client said that he would want me to purchase all of the appliances & cabinets, as he would be out of the country during the renovation. As I did not feel terribly comfortable with acting as the sole contact for a renovation that would benefit someone I may never meet, I replied via email again, stating that I would not be able to undertake the project. I did receive a response from the owner, stating that he would keep me in mind if things changed. Either this Angie's member is mixing me up with another contractor, or he is angry that I saw through a possible scam- I don't know. A 50% deposit would never pay for my labor & materials (with or without appliances) and I really don't have the time to take people into international court. That I spent over an hour of my time to get a false report stating that I never replied with a quote is pretty disheartening. On the other hand I didn't make the mistake of buying him a Sub-Zero, so life can't be all bad, no?

It went perfectly!
Description of Work: Installed 2 hanging globe lights.
It went well; Peter and his crew(s) worked quickly and did a very nice job. Both the guest room and bathroom were in very bad shape and required several rounds of plastering, but look almost brand new now (it's an old building...) Guest room floor looks beautiful; the flooring guys (a subcontractor) were very late one day which just happened to be bad for me because of work, but they did a great job. Paid separately from the rest of the work.
Description of Work: Total replacement of water-damaged bathroom ceiling (drywall/plastering); painting of the entire bathroom, including additional plastering to clean up messy old walls. Also, replacement of (2) bathroom light fixtures, including repair/re-wiring because of a short caused by water damage; moving junction boxes for proper installation of one of the fixtures, and to add a switch. Replaced cracked marble door sill. Plastering and painting of guest room walls and ceiling in bad shape due to age of building and previous shoddy work. Assembly and installation of ceiling fan/light and controllers, including repairs around junction box. Scraping/sanding and refinishing of guest room floor.

THE MEMBER'S HOME IS WITHIN AN BEAUTIFUL & INTERESTING OLD BROWNSTONE. WHILE THE APARTMENT WAS FULL OF GREAT ORIGINAL WOODWORK & MOLDINGS, IT'S AGE ALSO MEANT THAT THERE WOULD BE EXTRA WORK/SURPRISES INVOLVED. FORTUNATELY THE JOB WENT RELATIVELY WELL & WE WERE ABLE TO RENOVATE THE CONCERNED AREAS IN A CONSCIENTIOUS MANNER. ALL IN ALL I HAD A GOOD EXPERIENCE WORKING FOR THE MEMBER.
The finished product was better than I could ever have imagined! We worked with Peter who was very knowledgeable and patient. He took us step by step through the process and had many fabulous recommendations. He and his team was very punctual and is hard working. Everything was done within the scheduled time frame. I highly recommend Chronos Contracting for remodeling jobs!

I ENJOYED WORKING WITH THE MEMBER. HIS PROJECT WAS A CHALLENGE DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE AND HIS WIFE WERE TRYING TO CREATE A VERY MODERN AESTHETIC, WHILE HAVING JUST BOUGHT AN APARTMENT IN A VERY OLD BUILDING. THEIR CHANGES TO THE LAYOUT OF THE SPACE, DEFINITELY ADDED TO THE LIVABILITY OF THE APARTMENT. IN THE END I FELT THAT I DID A GOOD JOB FOR THEM AND THAT THEY WERE SATISFIED WITH THEIR NEW HOME.
