Bowery Plumbing Heating and Cooling

Recently my bathroom and kitchen sink developed leaks simultaneously, probably because they dried out after a long vacation. I called Bowery Plumbing to come take a look. They were polite and professional on the phone and sent someone right over. So far so good. When the plumber arrived, I could tell within 30 seconds that things weren't going to go well. He had a negative attitude and just didn't seem to care. After 10 minutes of looking around he said the job would cost $2,000. Surprised, I asked him some questions and the price started to go up. Apparently he found some additional problems the more he thought about it. Before leaving his quote had escalated to $2,500. He collected his $85 fee and left as quickly as he could. Wow. Next I found a maintenance guy in the building who does plumbing work on the side. He fixed the bathroom leak by tightening a loose pipe, charging $35. He suggested I buy a new kitchen faucet, which I did for $150, and he replaced that, also for $35. All told I ended up paying around $220 total to fix both leaks and got a nicer kitchen faucet to boot. So let's compare the two plumbers: * Bowery Plumbing charged me $85 to come over and do nothing, and then quoted me $2,500. * The maintenance guy in my building fixed both leaks for $70 after I bought a new sink for $150. Total cost around $220 Wow. Watch out.
