+ -1 moreThe guy didn't even bother to OPEN THE MECHANISM. Hey, *I've* done that much. The lock was old, but in the end--after getting another dubious quote--a man at a reputable home store opened it, cut and fixed the spring inside (all that needed to be done, and he would have done it free), and I reinstalled the lock. Done. I must say 24 Hour could have ripped me off worse: charged me a lot for a hard-to-find old part, or an entirely new mechanism (he estimated $150). But what he SHOULD have done is fixed the spring and reinstalled it on the spot. It would have taken 5-15 minutes. I also called 24 Hour after I had the spring fixed, and before I installed it, thinking I would have them do that. Someone promised to call me back, but never did. By that time, I'd done it myself.
Description of Work: I called because the bathroom lock mechanism was broken. The knob was loose, and of course we thought the whole thing might break or trap someone in the bathroom. The locksmith from 24 Hour called ahead and came promptly. He took out the lock and diagnosed it as old (yes, c. 80 years old), and needing to be replaced. He was unsure about getting the same lock, and said he would look around, as should I, and he might return to complete the job. We left the whole lock removed from the door.

+ -1 moreI THOUGHT THAT THEY DID A REALLY GOOD JOB. THEY WERE PATIENT WITH ME. THEY WERE ALSO VERY EXPERIENCED. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM. THEY SHOWED UP ON TIME, TOO.

+ -1 moreI FELT THAT THEY WERE VERY TRUTHFUL. I DIDN'T LIKE THAT THEY CHARGED A LOT FOR AN EMERGENCY. HOWEVER, IT WAS CONVENIENT THAT THEY WERE HERE WHEN I NEEDED THEM BECAUSE IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.
Description of Work: I LOST MY KEY SO THEY HAD TO DRILL TO GET THE LOCK OFF AND REPLACE IT.
