After a number of calls to this company (during which his family problems and the need to go out of town were mentioned), we agreed on a date that they would come and install the gutters, downspouts and leaf guards. I could not be present during the installation, but Pete called me later to report that the gutters and downspouts had been installed. He said he had to order the material for the leaf guards and asked for the total amount. I specifically requested a particular kind of leaf guard. Since I had heard of him through someone I know, and since he had installed the gutters, I mailed him a check for the amount in full. In the next series of calls, Pete's family problems were again cited, but he finally set a date to install the leaf guards. I called to be sure this had been done, and he assured me it had. Several weeks later I happened to be up on a ladder and noticed that in fact there were no leaf guards. I called him again, and he said that "his guys" had been sent to do the job. He supposedly called them on the other line, finally reporting back to me in that in fact they had installed the leaf guards at the wrong address! I was skeptical but still favorably disposed toward him because of the problems he had detailed regarding his aged mother in another state. I thought maybe the "guys" had pretended to do the job and sold the materials instead.... The installation seemed to be impossible to schedule, so finally, after numerous phone calls, he said he would go there on a Sunday and do the job himself. I checked, and indeed there were leaf guards, but not the kind I had ordered. When the next big rain storm came, I noticed that the water was dripping down between the gutter and the fascia board. I put in another call to Pete, who for the first time now was less than pleasant on the phone. When I went up on the ladder to investigate further, it was clear that the water couldn't even get through the tight mesh of the screening (like window screen) he had installed. I called him again back in November, and he was supposed to come up and have a look. Needless to say, that has not happened, and most of the sections of leaf guard have now blown off. I wish I had joined Angie's List and seen the other reviews before I ever engaged this company.

In 2011 Silver Fox Gutters was called to estimate cleaning out my gutters. He instead recommended new gutters, which was not a bad idea as they were old. I gave him a 2/3 downpayment as requested, and he returned a week later and installed the gutters. So far so good. When finished he came in and suggested that I should install gutter guards and added another amount to the bill to accomplish that task on the spot. I went out to do an errand and when I returned he said he was finished and I paid him the balance of the bill which totaled around 1,300.00. A year later when the house was inspected the gutters were "full of leaves and need cleaning." I contacted Silver Fox who made an excuse that he was sure he had sent "his guys" over to do the job (only he did it himself). He said he was an honest businessman and would come out and "make it right." We made an appointment. He did not show. Three phone calls later he still has not answered. I am taking him to small claims court. I am out $400 for the missing guards and $75 for having to clean out the gutters that were supposed to be protected by the guards. I am a senior citizen and upset.

It didn't go. See above.
Description of Work: I can't evaluate their on-the-job performance because we never got that far. We wasted a full month trying to connect with them to arrange gutter work. We'd leave messages with no callbacks. After repeated tries, we finally connected with a live person and set up an appt. for an estimate, but no one showed and no one called to reschedule. We ran out of patience and called them to say we would be taking our business elsewhere. Someone actually answered the phone again that time and the response was "Sorry, I have family problems". We all have family problems but how long does it take to make a lousy phonecall? If he couldn't do the job for whatever reason, he should have said so from the beginning. I would have understood and I wouldn't be giving him a negative review now. But, to totally blow us off is unacceptable and unprofessional. I always try to use a local contractor. This contractor is in my own town.
