Beware of Darren!!! He took my money and ran with it and has completely dodged all of my phone calls and texts ever since he cashed the check. I paid him close to $10,000 to have my deck rebuilt and the only work that was performed was a demolition of the deck I once had. Materials never arrived and he left us with nothing but property damage.

STOLE OUR MONEY AND DID NOT COMPLETE THE PROJECT. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I hired Darren to help replace a deck for us. We've worked with twice him in the past and like other reviewers here, we had no issues at all, he was punctual, reliable and honest. We had nothing but good things to say about him and had readily recommended him to friends and family. And in return we were really good to him, he was always paid on time and tipped very well. But this time our experience was totally different. He was like a different person, he has become completely unreliable, dishonest and a total scam artist. We agreed to a 3 week schedule to replace and extend some decking. For the first week I think he showed up 2 out of 5 days where a full days work was put in. The other days he would not show up for the entire day, with no call or text to explain his whereabouts. One day he showed up clearly high on drugs. After calling him out on some of this odd behavior, he apologized and said he was having some personal issues but assured us he had gotten past it and everything was on the up and up to finish. We gave him the benefit of the doubt because we *thought* we knew him and were already 5k and 2 weeks into this job. We hoped we could just put it behind us and move forward, wrapping it up quickly. But as soon as we made our second payment he just disappeared. To date, he has taken 2/3 of my budget and he has literally GHOSTED ME for the past 4 weeks. I have attempted to contact him numerous times via text, phone and email but he has not responded and or made any attempt to reach me. In total he has taken close to $10,000 of our money and has not completed any of the work we agreed to nor has he delivered materials amounting to anywhere near that amount. Most troubling is the fact that he took our checks directly to our branch and cashed them same day. All I have to show for all that money is quite a bit of property damage in my backyard including a partially demo'd deck, about 3 feet of "partial decking" which was not put down safely, a bunch of unfilled holes for footings (which were only dug about 12 inches, not nearly deep enough) and a bunch of rusty nails laying around for my kids and animals to get hurt on. To add insult to injury, I have had other contractors in to get estimates to fix the damage and I've been told the work he did so far was not to code at all, it all needs to be ripped up and replaced so it has all been a complete waste of time and money. Now I get the fun task of trying to sue him to get my money back. Save yourself the headache and hire someone else, this guy is bad, bad news. Spend 2 seconds running a background check (which we did much too late) and you'll see what I'm talking about. The old days of Darren being a good, reliable contractor are gone. He really is just a crook and a liar. Don't get fooled or taken advantage of like we did.

At first it was good but job was never completed. Called Darren several times with the promise he would be here 3 weekends in a row and called.on Friday night to say he would not be here Saturday morning , last time didn't even call to say he was not able to make it. Very disappointed.

AWESOME!!! We highly recommend Darren of Heritage Carpentry. We have hired Darren for 2 projects to date. We plan on hiring him for even more projects as he is one of the best! He's just one guy working to build up his own business and based on his work for us, I'm sure he's going to be in high demand as time goes by! He's that good. He's honest, reliable, responsible, great communication with regard to scheduling and questions...honestly, we can't say enough good things about him. The first project involved adding on hand railings to both our front and back decks. My roommate is disabled. He tripped and took a nasty spill going up the steps to our front deck. I immediately started looking for a carpentry contractor to add railings for my roommate (any myself for that matter) to hang on to so's to avoid another, more serious trip and fall. I found Darren and the rest is history. He totally understood the urgency to get railings built and despite being the busiest time of the year for contractors, he was able to work the project into his schedule way sooner than I expect. All the work he's done for us has had to be custom made and his work is exceptional. He goes above and beyond what is expected. His work on our back deck was a very pleasant surprise and looks great! He is honest, reasonably priced, reliable, dependable, professional, punctual...did I say honest? All around, a great experience working with Darren.

Awesome!!! Home owner is disabled, recently relocated to the area and new home needed hand railings added to both front and back deck. Before we could get the work done, the homeowner and had a nasty fall going up the steps of the front deck. We found Darren of Heritage Carpentry on Angie's and within a matter of days he was able to come out and give us an estimate and within only a matter of weeks, during the most busy time of the year for contractors, he was able to work us into his busy schedule. The front deck railings were pretty basic and work was as expected but he out-did himself on the back deck - Darren went above and beyond what we discussed and the final result is beautiful and functional at the same time. Final price was below the estimate - Darren is honest, reliable, punctual, dependable, accommodating, professional, does great work and is an all around cool guy! We highly recommend Darren/Heritage Carpentry and we are already making arrangements to have him back to do more work on our home.

I hired Darren from Heritage Carpentry to fix the deck stairs on my rental property along with the leak under the kitchen sink. He was professional, on time and above honest in his pricing. Darren also came on a moments notice to unfreeze the pipes in that same rental property. He was able to get to them without any broken pipes. His attention detail is commendable. I will be hiring Heritage Carpentry to install new hardwood floors and kitchen cabinets with butcher block countertops in my personal home. I highly recommend this company.
