I interviewed Amato Construction for a large remodeling job. He was pleasant, creative and gave me some good ideas for the project so I hired him. He has been in business a long time, was local and knew many people that I knew so it seemed promising. We drew up a contract and set a time for the project to begin. He wanted 1/2 the money up front. I paid him, he brought his equipment in the next week and began the renovation. He worked for about 3 hours the first day and about 3 hours the second day. And then... Making a long story short.... never showed up again. I called, many times, and after numerous promises to return, he eventually started ducking my calls. I had a lower call him and still no response. Eventually I filed a small claims suit. He never even showed for the court date. Since I had a contract the judge immediately awarded me a favorable verdict. After waiting the required month to collect, Joe Amato still didn't pay. I proceeded to call the county and found that he had just settled with another "Victim". If he has 2 outstanding cases against him you can sue for treble damages PLUS legal fees. So i guess he settled up when he figured he might have another suit against him. Ultimately I had to call the sheriff, place a lean on his home or equipment and then he finally pain in July of 2015. What a nightmare. It delayed the project a while year and caused tremendous stress and loss of time.

Asked him about replacing the shower stall and was told he would get back to me the following week. After repeated calls to both his office and cell phone numbers he has not returned our calls. Even after leaving a message that we would leave negative feedback about him on Angies List, still no response. It looks like we'll have to find someone else to fix the new leak and replace the shower stall.
Description of Work: Hired him to fix a broken shower handle and leaking water line. Showed up with his plumber who performed a temporary fix for the shower handle and did a reasonable job repairing the leaking water line although the valve he closed in order to do the repair now leaks as well.

Also, when we had floods he went up and down the neighborhoods and helped everyone. They are very involved in helping the community. I will continue to use them and recommend them to everyone.
Description of Work: They have done work for us when others would not come, because they do not like to work on old buildings. Our house was built in 1860. We have had many contractors come to give estimates and they said the job was either too big for them, too small for them, or they didn't have the expertise to work on homes the age of ours. They have worked for us many times. They were able to repair our sagging living room ceiling and make it secure when others wanted to replace the entire thing at a very high cost. They have worked on a garage apartment that we have, and that building is 112 years old.

They had a carpenter who was phenomenal and the work was beautiful. I will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Amato Construction to rebuild our front porch roof as well as do some woodwork on our back porch to make it safe. They added new soffit and fascia to make it look like it did before. They also remodeled our bathroom.
