Terrific job on my 90-year-old oak floors. Ishmael and his crew are very professional and do top quality work. This is my second project with him and both have exceeded my expectations. Expect them to arrive at the agreed time, do a beautiful job, and leave you with a clean house. I strongly recommend Ishmael to anyone looking for repairing or refinishing their wood floors.

This contractor was the best contractor I have ever worked with (and I have worked with some excellent ones). Ishmael was responsive, on time, and a pleasure to work with. When he came to review our floors he carefully examined each room and explained to us what he saw and the various options for what we could do. He in no way pressured us in any direction and was happy to work with our vision for the floors. Ishmael submitted a very professional, itemized estimate to us in a timely manner after carefully reviewing our floors. This estimate also included references to other customers. We already knew he was great since several people in our new building raved about him. They were absolutely right. Ishmael adapted to the needs of other contractors working in our apartment to ensure that the floor refinishing was timed correctly. The results of his work were fantastic and exactly what we wanted. Within days of Ishmael's completion of the job we had a terrible rainstorm and some water got into our apartment due to building leaks. Ishmael kindly went back to the apartment and re-assessed the floors. He told us that all of the stains that we identified were old ones and said that we could rest easily knowing that the floors were in great shape. All of this is worth a hefty price tag but Ishmael charged us less than two other contractors who gave us estimates. He is well-worth the price and I would not hesitate to use him again.

Mr. Adams and his crew did a great job. They sealed the work area securely so that the dust did not spread over the rest of the house. The floor looks great.

It got to a point that it became an impossibility to remove the ingrained dirt on our porcelain tile flooring in our kitchen no matter what cleaning product, scrub brush or machine that was used. We initially got an estimate from a company to work on the kitchen floor, but we felt that their price was inflated. So on a particular Sunday, we called 3 other vendors from Angie's List. However most of them did not respond. But, when we called Ishmael Adams of Great American Hardwood Floors Services, Inc., he got back to us immediately that same day. Initially during our phone conversation, he was hesitant and skeptical about whether he would be able to dig up the porcelain tile flooring and also be able to salvage the oak floor below. However, he agreed to come by later that day to look at the job. Ishmael showed up as promised on a Sunday. After taking up a few tiles to see the floor below, he agreed to do the work on the kitchen floor and the back steps. The day the work began, Ishmael and his helper, Carl, graciously helped us to remove the refrigerator from the kitchen. Plastic sheeting was installed around the perimeter of the kitchen area to prevent the spread of dust throughout the house. Although, removing the tiles was difficult, both Ishmael and Carl were able to get the job done. They are truly unbelievably skilled and focused workers. The sanding of the floor revealed the gorgeous oak floor below that was in excellent shape. After 4 days of work, the finished product was incredible. We were extremely pleased with the end result of their work. Our kitchen floor and steps are beautiful. The workmanship was excellent. Ishmael is a true professional with an exceptional work ethic. Each day, Ishmael arrived in a timely manner, and would always alert us if they were going to be somewhat late. In addition, each day our property was always left clean and spotless. Ishmael Adams is an extremely skilled, knowledgeable, honest, trustworthy, respectable contractor and professional who is sensitive to the needs of his customers. His prices are fair and competitive. After some run-ins with a poor contractor, finding Ishmael was a blessing. Our experience was a breeze for us! Ishmael and Carl meticulously knocked out 1000sq ft flooring installation and stair refinishing in 4 days. The stairs had many layers of paint so I'm sure that was long and tedious work but they made it seem effortless. Beautiful work with the utmost professionalism. What more can you ask for?

I can't say enough positive things about Mr Adams and the services. He was a pleasure to interact with and I was very happy with the results. Beyond technical skills, he brings a level of artistry to what he does, and did an impeccable job of blending two different types of wood on our floor with the creative use of various stains in a seamless, harmonious finish. Ishmael and his crew were great. Very knowledgeable about our existing floors, which stains would work best, and was helpful throughout the process. Timely, responsive, very easy to deal with. Would certainly recommend and hire again.

Ishmael and his team refinished the hardwood floors is several rooms in my apartment. These are oak and walnut floors in an 80 year old building and the floors had not been refinished for more than 25 years. Ishmael is extremely responsive and punctual. He gave me an estimate and was able to start the work very quickly thereafter and worked to accommodate a quick turnaround for me. He did a terrific job -- i went with the natural wood -- no stain - so the floors were sanded and then given three coats of polyurethane. It was about 700 square feet and he finished the work in two days. There were also a few places that needed to be filled and a couple of missing pieces of wood to be replaced which they did as well. There is no way to completely avoid sawdust when you have floors refinished, but Ishmael and his team did a very good job of taping doors and putting plastic up where needed to contain the dust as much as possible and they did a very good job of cleaning up as well. The floor color in the attached photos is different because one is taken lit only by daylight and the other with an overhead fixture. I have a couple of more rooms to be refinished at a later time and will definitely call on Ishmael again.

Excellent ! Ishmael came within 24 hours to give a free estimate of the cost. He explained in detail the damage, the options I had in repairing it and the possible unseen damage. I hired him, agreed on price and he began work in 48hrs.( I had another contractor look at floor prior to Ishmael) The quality of work was superb to include sanding, re-varnishing and the cleanup. I would use him again and recommend without reservation to anyone else. He did not rush the job but worked on it continuously with high quality with his assistant.

Ishmael provided a detailed estimate, making sure we understood the scope of the work and the appropriate type of flooring for our home. Ishmael and his team were dependable, knowledgeable, punctual and overall professional. The pricing and completion schedule was fair and accurate. They say nothing is perfect, but I believe my floors probably are. We love our floors!

All the doorways were sealed off and Ishmael's has the latest equipment which sucks up about 97 percent of the dust. The guys kept the mess to an absolute minimum. Each day leaving the house clean so that we were able to stay in the house during the whole process. Three long days, each day going way past the 5 o'clock hour, they finally finished around 9 p.m. on Friday night. While we sought some refuge at our daughter's house, Ishmael called us to tell us that everything was done. We came home to find our furniture back in place, the house vacuumed down, and the floors looking like a million dollars. Ishmael and his men are truly professional and did an unbelievable job in restoring our existing floors. It was our lucky day when we found Ishmael. You won't be disappointed if you use him for your job.

Ishmael and his men showed up promptly at the designated time. The guys were pleasant to be around, extremely courteous and very respectful of our home. Their work was meticulous, keeping any mess truly to a minimum, cleaning up after themselves each day before the left. When the job was finished, all our furniture was put back in place and our new/old wooden floors looked like a million bucks. We have other rooms in the house to restore and we certainly will be calling Ishmael to do the job.

I gave Ishmael extremely short notice (the day before) with not much information. The next day he showed up as requested, saw the floor, confirmed that he would actually be completed in one day, sanded and sealed the floor with 3 finish layers. I wasn't sure if I was going to get he floors done, because of the short timeframe that I had to move furniture in, but I'm so glad that I decided to and that Ishmael helped me. The floors look GREAT! They look brand new, I actually didn't think they could look so good. Ishmael was extremely professional, efficient and gave me a great finished product. He even filled in some existing gaps in the wood and gave me what felt like a brand new floor. I highly recommend him and already have to a number of friends.

We were thrilled with Ishmael's skill and professionalism. He visited our apartment twice before doing the job, once for the estimate and once to examine our fuse box prior to sanding, so he'd know which sander to bring. The floors look fantastic. The repair work is seamless. If I didn't know where to look, I wouldn't see it. And, when I looked in one of the closets, I saw that he had installed shoe molding without charging--or even mentioning that he had done it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. He was a little late the first day, but it was raining very heavily, so that was understandable. (Attached picture is red oak floor with weathered oak stain and satin finish)

Fantastic!!!! The hardwood floors as we found them were a real problem for me. I wanted a light warm color, but the naked wood was a cold color. Ishmael showed extreme patience, kindness, resourcefulness and creativity, combining a series of treatments in order to give me a result with which I am very pleased and happy!! He also accomplished everything in the time frame he gave us. He was extremely pleasant and collaborative with the building maintenance staff. We wish we could use him again, but we expect this beautiful job to last the rest of our lives!

Everything went very smoothly. Ishmael is very knowledgeable and friendly; he showed up on time and finished exactly when he said he would. They did a great job - no imperfections and no stains on adjacent walls/carpets. The price was very reasonable. Knowing how home improvement projects usually don't go according to plan, it was very refreshing to have one go so well. We highly recommend them and will be using them again when we refinish our attic floor.

This is a great company and my floors look beautiful and have a very scratch resistant finish. I solicited several bids from other firms and Great American was the most reasonable. Mr. Adams and staff were very professional and all of their work was excellent. I had 700 square feet of oak flooring on the first floor plus 13 stair steps sanded to remove old stain, re-stained and finished with 3 coat of polyurethane. Several major repairs to the 90 year old flooring were also needed and the new "patches" matched the existing flooring perfectly. They also removed and replaced all of the heavy furniture. All in all, I heartily recommend this company to anyone looking to just refinish their old floors or to make major repairs to them like I did.

A 7'x4' section of our original 1910 white oak hardwood dining room floor was severely damaged (blackened) by my husband's incontinent senior dog. A few weeks after his dog passed away, we joined Angie's List in search of someone to - we hoped - repair the damaged area, vs replacement of the entire floor. I contacted American Hardwood Floors in the late morning of Wednesday 12/31 (yes, New Year's Eve), and Ishmael Adams replied within the hour and we schedule an appt for that Friday 1/2. Ishmael arrived two minutes early for the initial consultation. He gave himself a workout trying to scrape a board down to determine if the damage could be sanded out, and ultimately determined that the floor could be plank-repaired (instead of the entire floor being completely replaced). Ishmael was very courteous, friendly and professional, and emailed my husband an estimate in a very timely manner. We found the estimate and time-frame to complete the repair to be fair and reasonable, and agreed on a start date. (We did not receive estimates from any other companies or individuals.) He and his team (both of whom were equally courteous, friendly and professional) assisted my husband with moving large furniture out of the room; they were diligent about sealing off the area to limit dust, and cleaned up well. Our only *very* minor note is a slightly late arrival on both days. On the start date (01/20), Ishmael and his two workers arrived 30 minutes later than he had said they would. He did notify us, but not until it was already a little past the arrival time. Ishmael himself was the only worker on the second/final day (1/21) and was again a little late, but he alerted us beforehand. Neither lateness was a huge issue...just a very minor peeve. We are extremely satisfied with the work Ishmael and his team did, and would both recommend them to others and use them again ourselves. (I did, in fact, ask Ishmael if he was willing to travel to Brooklyn, as my mother expressed interest in his services since we were so pleased with his work -- he will if she calls.)
