We had bought a newly-built house a few years ago and had completed everything except the master bedroom/bath suite. The entire space was 60' x 20' and we had no idea what to do with it. We had several interior designers and an architect come and give us suggestions, but we weren't happy with any of them. We then took advantage of Allan's $100 consultation and in the first 15 minutes he had already given us more original ideas than all the other consultants combined. Once we decided on a plan and a budget, Allan went with me to pick out flooring, tile and other building materials; he also went with my wife to choose fixtures, wall coverings, paint, etc. During construction Allan visited often and interacted with the contractors, ensuring that they were performing quality work. Allan has a unique (at least, for me) way of looking at empty space. We were so concerned about not breaking the space up so that it looked forced and also not leaving it so wide-open where we would have to buy a lot of furniture. In the end, the areas flow together naturally, there is lots of space but not really empty space, both rooms are very functional, and we didn't have to buy any furniture. Allan kept us completely within budget, and in fact, what we saved in materials and fixtures (Allan knows where to buy things!) probably came close to his consulting fee. All in all, we are completed satisfied with his work and would recommend him highly. We will work with him next year on redesigning our living room and kitchen areas.
Description of Work: First, we contacted Allan after a real estate agent mentioned his $100 consultation. Allan came, looked over the area we wanted to renovate, and then looked at the rest of the house. He gave us a bunch of different ideas, sketched them out for us, discussed possible costs and budget, and left with a lot of information. When we decided to hire him to design our new space and follow it through to completion, he gave us the option for him to work on an hourly basis or as a lump sum. We chose the latter. Allan provided us with many different plans, came to our house often and listened to our input, and when we finally decided on one particular plan we began choosing the materials and fixtures. He also recommended a few contractors and these worked out great. Allan accompanied us to stores, and went with my wife to Manhattan one day to find special stone tile. During construction, Allan came to the site every few days checking on the workmanship. He was always available for questions.
