John Hobby Jr Plumbing & Heating Ltd

Called plumbers to snake out a clogged drain. Plumber spent approximately three hours trying to get the snake to work. After he cut a hole in the wall to look at the way the pipes were set up, he discovered that the snake had been hitting a cap rather than going into the proper pipe. The charge for the three hours of unproductive work was $345. I called the owner of the company, asking that the charge for the visit be partially adjusted to account for some of the time spent with the snake going into the wrong pipe. He said he wouldn’t make an adjustment because they “hadn’t done anything wrong.”

Took two days and very expensive

They are good by expensive. We have used them a several times now. They are very good. They come when they say they are gonna come. They get the job done. But they charge a bit higher. We have used other plumbers who might have been a little bit cheaper but who are much more erratic and not as good. Their prices are a little bit higher but it was worth it. That is why we keep using them. Because they are good at it.

They're good but not cheap. They knew what they were doing.

The plumber fixed it and then handed me a bill for $114 for parts and labor. On the previous visit, he admitted breaking it and said he'd come back with new part and fix it for at no charge. I sent the bill back by mail to Mr Hobby with a note stating my point of view. He called me and said that whenever he has billing disputes he tells the customer to take his business elsewhere. I reminded him that I have easily spent over $15K with his company over the past 15 years, paid his bills promptly, and never complained about his price, which is always on the high side. But I said that if does not want my business anymore, and is unwilling to eat a $114 invoice, then so be it. I feel liberated! He is a very difficult person to do business with. If you need him to look at something, he only goes out on Tues and Thursday between 10AM and 4PM. One time, as his guys parked and approached my home, a transformer blew down the block, knocking out my power. This was before I had a generator. I had to turn them away. They were sent to another job immediately, but he still billed me for a one hour house call.

Perhaps more helpful for fellow Angie's list users (than reviewing the endless details regarding John Hobby Jr.) was our conclusion: We ended up getting great help / guidance following the challenges with John Hobby Jr. plumbing from Billy at Marinelli plumbing in Elmsford. Decent guy who seemed genuinely sorry for us and tried to help. Use Angies List, but cross-reference the other rating websites.

Called them to do a job and they charge travel time from the last house they are at.....to my house before they even step in the door. I don't consider this fair. Didn't not use them

Nothing but rave reviews for the team at Hobby. I had a pipe burst in this freezing weather we've been having. They were at my home within 1/2 hour and repaired the problem. They were professional and efficient. And considering they came so quick and last minute, at a time when everyone was having issues, I considered the $230 bill more then fair. I can't recommend them enough.

I would like to thank Chris and Anthony for their efforts on the plumbing work we had to have done. They were both very professional and diligent in their work. The job was slated to take one and half days, but they were able to complete the work in one day. We will be using their services again. Thank you again.

Discovered a wet spot in our kitchen ceiling and called the plumber. They showed up in time, quickly assesd the problem and replace the pipe.

Could not ask for better experience. Both trips, in home, neat careful and very patient. Job was not east due to sediment issue. They replaced and directed me to the manufacture which also turned out well. Faucets are like new.

He is excellent! He is a bit pricey, but his quality is great! I wouldn't use anybody else.

In general, we were happy with the services performed and will use John Hobby, Jr. again. It was great to get an appointment the next day and informed of the hourly rate before the booking was confirmed. Upon arrival, the plumber was personable and knowledgeable and was able to quickly diagnose and fix all three issues (within 30 minutes). If we have one small complaint, it's that the appointment was booked between 1.00 and 4.00pm and the plumber arrived at 5.15pm. We realize that schedules change but a 'heads-up' call would have been nice.

Receptionist was phoned and she provided us with a same day appointment. We were unable to use our washing machine and had accumulated room full of dirty clothes. Receptionist was sympathetic and plumber and his helper came within hours. The men surveyed the problems and set to work immediately, with one man replacing pump, while second snaked out clogged basement waste water lines leading to a leaking elbow joint that consumed most of the workers' time. Owner of the company, Mr. Hobby, took time to come to my home to see that work was done to my satisfaction and to explain why one pipe was constantly clogging. We have had several different plumbers work on the same section of pipes over the last 10 days, and the problem had never been addressed correctly. We will in the not too distant future, address this problem and will employ John Hobby to do the job.

I haven't used them very much but they have been very good. I just call him whenever I need him. They have been responsive when I needed them. Their work was clean, good, high quality and they are reliable.

Very responsive to come by and give an estimate to close off an unused floor drain. Work was performed quickly and to my satisfaction. I was impressed that they would be so attentive to a very small job. However, I have called several times since for small jobs to be performed and my calls are not returned.

The pipes under my kitchen sink had fallen apart, causing a leak. The person at the business who took my call was very courteous and within the hour had called me back with the plumbers' estimated time of arrival. The plumbers came that day and were very professional and courteous. They replaced the broken pipes and returned the next day with another part that had to be special-ordered. I was very happy with the work that was done and the speed of its completion.

They were responsive and did good work. They were a little pricey but not out of line with the going rates.

I have never had plumbers in the house who showed as much skill as John Hobby's staff. They arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently, and left me with a bill far smaller than expected.

They are always available during an emergency. They are very punctual and I don’t feel like I am being ripped off. They are very honest and experts in what they do. They are highly reliable. I highly recommend them to others.
