I bought a piece of raw land recently and want to build a secluded vacation home on it. It is a long lot covered by trees with some slope at the end. My intended house site is 1000+ feet from road, so the first step is to cut in a driveway and clear the building site. I talked to Pete, and he was able to understand my plan well and gave me advice on how to save costs without compromising the core ideas. Lisa, Pete's co-worker, then emailed me the estimate within a few days. After I applied for the permit, the culvert pipe size increased, and Lisa sent another estimate with slightly higher price. The job started a couple weeks later. It was actually quite fascinating to see how Pete operates his backhoe to push down trees, move them, and grade the surface with existing rocks. He was very skillful and efficient. He also dug two deep holes for the PERC test engineer for free. The entire job took 3 -4 days, and we had a walk-through at the end. Pete is also very pleasant to talk to, giving me useful local knowledges and construction opinions.
Description of Work: Cut in driveway, put in culvert pipe, and clear building site

First things first, Linda and Pete are consummate professionals from the time you dial the number to the moment you hand over the check and after. Scheduling was a breeze and extremely flexible, time was of the essence and he and his crew moved with resolve. Given the scope of this job and the age of the home's previous footing drains he had his work cut out for him. The dug and cut out around the entire foundation; no small task with the rocky clay soil in the neighborhood. They cleaned off the foundation and pulled out the old "Orangeburg" Pipe (which is nothing more that compressed laminated cardboard pipe), he showed me how it was almost the sole cause of my basements repeated flooding. The then took me through what he was doing next, laying down item four rock, new PVC pipe with an earth mesh to prevent clogging, then resealing the cleaned foundation. He backfilled the cut out with extreme precision and the ultimate in care, no small feat with the amount of trees in the area, he preserved my wife's plants so well that when he replanted them, they did not wilt. The entire time he and his men were working my lawn was not a "construction site", no garbage or loud music playing, and copious amounts of profanity. He was very respectful and soft voiced to eight year daughter explaining what he was doing while they pestered him from time to time. I have waited a year because as I am writing this over two and a half inches of rain has just fallen four hours and my basement is BONE DRY. I would have been swimming two years ago! It is unfortunate that the economy is so lousy at the moment, because if you can afford to do Drive ways and other exterior work that requires excavation, your dollar can go no further that with Bitts Excavating! Just ask my other neighbors in my development who have used him as well.
Description of Work: Complete excavation around the entire foundation, resealed foundation, installed and routed new footing drains, backfilled and graded the lawn and landscape around the house.

Pete Bitts, Ted, and men put in an external French drain and graded land to prevent flooding. Price was fair; came on time; meticulous work, if you can say that about excavating. An absolute pleasure to deal with. Also put in a driveway at a good price. Very neat and considerate worker. I don't know if I'm waterproofed yet (hasn't rained enough), but he did the work I wanted and I definitely recommend this company and the man.
Description of Work: External French drain, drain extended to daylight, land grading for our house to solve a flooding problem. Also removed old driveway and put in new one.
