The technician, arrived on time, on a saturday even, and not only performed the work to the utmost professional standard, but explained much of the process as he was doing it to educate me for future reference. His prices were reasonable and I would definitely hire him in the future.

Wow, Alan is a truly a helpful, honest, and commendable person, which I think is rare nowadays. I called him earlier today based on the reviews on Angie's list and was directed to his VM. While I was still leaving the message he called me back, talk about promptness! I had no working power on the side of my townhouse and I while I was in the middle of explaining the problem my husband asked for the phone and talked to him in more detail about the issues we were having. Alan helped my husband over the phone and solved the problem within 5 mins.! Our doorbell and outdoor outlets had not been working for months! Not only was he helpful and patient with my husband over the phone, but he did this as a courtesy. I'm sure if we had called anyone else, they would have insisted on coming to the house and charging us a service fee for a job that took less than a minute. Alan didn't know who we were, he didn't have to help us over the phone and for that I'm extremely impressed with his service. We will definitely be calling him again when we need any electrical work done on our home and we will also be recommending him to our friends and neighbors. It's refreshing to find kind and honest people out there! Thank you Alan, you made our day!

Alan did a great job of installing a portable generator transfer switch just prior to Hurricane Sandy. He went the extra mile making sure I knew how to operate the generator and switch. After the initial install when it was discovered that the generator which I had delivered from another source was damaged, he came back after I got the replacement to show me how to use it. He's fast, efficient, and professional.

Hurricane Sandy brought down a tree which took out all of our power lines and pulled down our electric meter from our house. The next day, the power company, restored and re-strectched our lines, but told me that the cabling into our house had been damaged and that we would have an electrician repair our entrance-lines. I had never had to contract for an electrician and hadn't a clue who to call. THANK GOD FOR ANGIE"S LIST!. I found Alan Nichols, gave him a call and left a message, (Remember this is in the beginning of the storm recovery.) Alan, remarkably, called me back immediately (within 10 minutes). He agreed to come by my house that evening that evening to survey the damage, He arrived, as promised, analyzing what would be needed and said he would be back in the morning after he could obtain the parts required. The next day, he arrived, as promised, not only did he correct the damage from the storm, but he improved the wiring. I have to mention here that my house is very old (1790), yet Alan was not deterred, and pleasant about the extra work (in the grounding system) to bring his repairs "up-to-code". In his dealing with all of these "old house" difficulties, Alan revealed that he was a true "human being". That is, he did not just treat us as clients, he treated us as 'people'. This may seem like a small thing, but for me, it is everything. I could not be more grateful or appreciative of his work and would recommend him without hesitation.

From the moment I spoke to Alan I knew he would be hired. His personality and ability to make the solution to our scope of work simple was very appreciated. His estimate was competitive but his work ethic, knowledge and attention to detail will keep us coming back time and time again. He is our go to electrician forever. An example of his work ethic was him coming to hook our stove and cooktop up at night in the middle of a nor'easter. He did not want us to be without our appliances for one more night. Alan did a great job from start to finish. He has many years of experience and it shows. His price was very reasonable and I am very happy with the workmanship which I believe is most important. He was punctual and very fast in implementing all wiring. I intend to have Alan install a generator backup system in the early spring!

He fixed the problem under an hour and honored our coupon. Professional, fast, reasonable and trustworthy. Would not hesitate to use Nickel again and would highly recommend.

We had a strange problem where we lost power in our bathrooms but the circuit breaker was out. We called Alan at around 6 pm on a Friday evening and he happened to be relatively close by and came in 20 minutes. It turned out that we had a "loose neutral" somewhere. We did troubleshooting for a couple of hours but couldn't find the problem (we had to methodically open up every outlet/fixture to check the wires). As promised, he came back on Saturday morning. While we never found the loose wire, Alan was able to find an appropriate solution and got our back on Saturday afternoon. I highly recommend Nickel Electric and have already asked for estimates for more (discretionary) work to be performed.

Alan arrived exactly when he said he would. Came with all his tools, even his own ladder. He is very knowledgeable, friendly, and quick. My husband had attempted to put up the fan but after an entire day said call someone! Challenged by my husband's wiring (not an electrician), he found the problems and fixed them easily. I have lights and a fan! What a joy to have someone come do what they say they are going to do, when they say, and for how much they say! I would call Alan back for any electrical issue! I f I had to do it again I would not listen to the propane people and go with our origanal placement of the generator. Therby saving time and money and not have the generator in a place where I now have to add a lot of shrubs to conceal it.

Alan Nicol of Nickel Electric is my hero. On June 14th, I was trying to clean my in ground pool up after the recent rains and wind loaded it with leaves and debris. Prompt attention was needed to prevent water discoloration and staining to the plaster. All of a sudden the electrical controls stopped working. Everything shut down. We checked all the breakers and everything was fine except it did not work. We do al lot of work ourselves. Messing with electrical connections is one we leave to the professionals. I contacted my pool service company but it was after hours. We spent the evening scooping out what we could with the hand skimmers. The next morning I tried the pool service again, explained the problem, and was told they could not even tell me what day they could get out to me. They were very busy. I needed a licensed electrician and fast. I AM SO LUCKY I FOUND NICKEL ELECTRIC ON ANGIE'S LIST. I was a subscriber but never really used the service. Finding Alan Nicol made it worthwhile and I will turn to Angie's List more often. I called Nickel Electric and Alan was at my house within hours. He was very courteous and professional. He found the problem and fixed it for an extremely fair price. An emergency call out and repair for $200.00. He is my hero. His prompt response saved me days of work if the debris was allowed to sit. I will most certainly call him again to handle all my electrical work in the future.

Alan arrived on time, did an excellent job and charged a fair price. He gave advice and made some very good recommendations which we were really happy with.

Overall, Alan was very pleasant and accommodating when scheduling an appointment. He came the very next morning and began to troubleshoot areas to find the source of the outlet with no power. He explained numerous questions I had throughout his work, and was very thorough in his performance. He was even so kind to entertain one of my young toddlers while he was working! I was very pleased with the quality of work and will definitely use and recommend him in the future.

Everything went extremely well. Alan is very personable, professional,. and obviously knows his stuff. He called ahead to let me know he was running half-an-hour late for our appt., and arrived exactly when he said he would. He installed one flush-mount ceiling fixture in a downstairs bath, and semi-flush fixture in upstairs bathroom. My previous contractor (a relative) put the wrong type of box in, and even that hadn't been installed well. Alan replaced it with the correct one, and made sure that it was secure for the weight of the fixture. He then replaced an older ceiling fan with a new one in the bedroom. Then he installed a ceiling fixture in the master bath. My previous contractor did not locate the two boxes for vanity lights so the fixture would be centered over the vanities, nor did he install the right type of box, or fix them securely. Alan made it perfect. I have found very few people whose work I've been satisfied with, but I was impressed and completely happy with all the work he did. Fantastic job, and I will definitely use Nickel Electric again.

This was the second time I used Nickel electric ( Allen wired my new garage last year) I knew the quality and value would be there.I called him for quote and the next day he was there. he even gave me a list of code requirements and a diagram of where we should place the ground ring.after the pool was up , allen was there the next satuday to run conduit and wire the whole thing up. The electrical inspection passed and we could continue with the rest of our project of expanding our deck. I only wish I had budgeted funds to do some lighting on my new deck. But this fall , I will call Allen to do that.

After a power outage this past October that left me without electricity for 3 cold days, I decided it was time to get a stand-by generator. I went on-line and did some research and decided to go with the Generac brand. I then came to Angieslist to find an electrician. Alan, of Nickel Electric, got good reviews, and was based relatively near by, so I called him. By now, it was the first week of December. He came by that same evening and told me that he, too, felt that Generac was a well-made generator. He assessed my electric needs (i.e., what electric items I would want to have on if the power went off again) and suggested an 8 plug generator. I wrote him a check to cover the cost of the generator (as I'd already done my on-line research, I knew he was giving me an accurate cost for the generator) and told me that there was a 6 week wait for Generac generators. He said that he'd call when it arrived so that he could arrange delivery and installation. Six weeks later he called and told me that the company (Generac) was behind on its orders and it would be at least another six weeks. Generac finally delivered the generator in April! Alan came by with a helper to place the generator in its approximate location. Then we set up an appointment for the re-wiring to be done. This was easily a full days work. I next had to call the propane company to arrange for a larger propane tank and for them to connect the generator. They told Alan exactly where they wanted the generator placed. He came back, made a level stone foundation, and placed the generator upon it, where the propane serviceman had indicated. A few days later the propane service came to remove my older and smaller tank and replace it with larger one that would allow the generator to run for several days in the event of a power outage. Then Alan returned, and did a test run of the generator, explaining to me how it worked, and showing me how it affected the electric power boxes in my house. He set up the Generac power box so that all the important electricity-dependent features of the house would still function. Top priorities were the oil burner, water, and refrigerator, but he managed to arrange the wiring so that I'd have lights and current in just about every room. He worked with efficiency. He is clearly a master electrician. Before I wrote him the check for his services, he again reviewed the workings of the generator and told me that if I ever have any issues, questions, or need of service, he would be there to help.

Excellent from scheduling the appt (and we had to reschedule at the last minute) and Alan was still accommodating. On time, worked quickly, completed the work, cleaned up after himself, and gave us a very reasonable bill. Can't say enough good about Nickel Electric!!

Allan came to the house inperson. When we first spoke my thinking was to add chain and wire to the existing chandelier and swag it to the new location. Allan even suggested how much chain and wire would be needed for the job. When Allan arrived he took a look in the attic and was pleased to find that he could fish the wire to the new location without adding wire and having a swag across the ceiling. Allan arrived on time and completed the job within the time proposed. My husband and I were very satisfied with his work and professionalism.

I initially met with Alan Nicol to discuss the work needed and get an estimate for the work. He toured the house with me, checked the individual rooms and placement for what was needed, and initially estimated that the job should take approximately 4 hours to complete, but said he would send me a written estimate via email within a day or two. Alan was very pleasant, and was a straight shooter when it came to detailing his approach to the work needed. When I mentioned to him that we had had a friend of the family give us an estimate the previous month, and what that estimate was ($2500), he was very surprised at how high that estimate was, and actually apologized to me that someone in his profession having tried to gouge me. I received the written estimate later that evening, and all looked well. The price was very reasonable, matched what we had discussed verbally, and clearly listed all components of the work I had requested. After evaluating some of the data cable runs I had discussed with Alan, I sent him a small revision to the original request, and asked him to revise the estimate as needed. He told me it should only add about a half-hour to the job, and to add $50 to the original estimate. After some minor hiccups on our end (including a beehive found in one of the workspaces Nickel Electric would need to work in), I contacted Alan to inform him that we would like to start the job, and he was able to get started within a few days. He sent Pete to do the work. Pete was incredibly meticulous with everything, and did a great job of cleaning up any debris from the drilling or cutting he had to do. Everything he did was painstakingly measured, and nothing was cut or drilled that didn't need to be. While he was meticulous and thorough, after about 4 hours (the originally estimated time for the entire job), Pete had only completed two of the outlets and one of the data pulls. There was some issue with getting the cable pulled up to the 2nd floor of the house through the path that was discussed, so I was fine with the job taking a little bit longer. Pete resumed work after a brief lunch, and by the end of the day, had only finished about 1/3 of the job. I checked with Pete to see how much longer he expected the job to take, and he indicated it should require about another 4-5 hours, which would have brought the whole job to 12-13 hours. I spoke with Alan, who said he had planned on it being a roughly 8 hour job (but had neglected to communicate that to me), and would call me back the following week to arrange a return to complete the job. Since the house is currently vacant, the extra time needed was not a horrible inconvenience, but I'm responsible for caring for our 6-month old son, and needed to plan for babysitting arrangements while overseeing the work, so there was a bit of inconvenience felt. Alan contacted me the following week to arrange a return to complete the work. Since the job was taking longer than expected, Alan asked if I could split the cost of the extra day's labor with him, and I agreed, since the amount requested was reasonable. Alan sent Pete back to complete the job. Again, while Pete was thorough and meticulous, he worked an additional 8 hours and still left portions of the job unfinished. He had me contact Alan, who said he would come the following day to finish the work. Alan arrived the following day, and finished the remaining issues (check an outlet in the garage to ensure it could handle the load of a small commercial freezer, fix wiring issues in two broken lighting fixtures, and install a new lighting fixture) in about an hour. In total, the job was initially estimated at 4 hours, revised to 4.5 hours, estimated by Alan at 8 hours, and in actuality, took 17 hours to complete. The quality of the work was outstanding, as was the attention to detail and the cleanliness of the work. The only area of problems was that the time estimate wasn't close to what was actually needed, and as a result, the job did cost slightly more than expected. Overall, I'm very happy with the work done, but in the future, would hope for a more accurate estimate.

It was an absolutely wonderful experience having him work in our home. He helped us realize the vision we'd had but didn't know how to go about getting the work done.

after a dryer fire at my house that appeared to involve electrical problems, i called alan, who i had never met. he came to the house while the building and safety inspector was doing the post-fire safety inspection. subsequently, after the inspector's report arrived, he came to do the work. he rewired the dryer and installed two ceiling fixtures. he made an effort to keep costs down by trimming the work to what the inspector required. he is personable, professional, responsive, prompt, and did a good job. i will have him back.

Before I even broke ground I called Allen for a estimate. He showed up on time. He gave me different options and solutions to some problems . Together we came up with a plan and a price. Before the pouring of the foundation he came out and installed his conduit .Two weeks later the slab and building were up. I called him to let him know He could start. We set a date for the work to begin. Alan was there on time . all work was completed on time and on price. The job site was left clean and neat.

The electrical had come loose, and the electric company said I had to hire a licensed electrician. Allen Nicol had to get up on the roof to put the new clamp up, he went to the supply house to pick up a harness and reconnected the incoming service to my house. He completed the job, and I didn't even have to call the electric company to connect. He also put in an outside electrical outlet for me. While he was on my roof, he offered to put back one of my gutter guards that had blown off. He went over and above what he was supposed to do. He did a wonderful job.
