+ 0 moreHe responded to my telephone call by committing to come the same day as the call. I expected him in the afternoon, and when he did not show called again to verify he was coming. He apologized as his call before mine took much longer than expected. He did come as promised and returned within two days with the needed part. He did not charge for two house calls, he only charged for the part and time to install the part. He was very efficient, personable, and competent. I will definitely use him again and would recommend him to anyone in our area.
Description of Work: Examined the Jenn-Air stove top fan. Determined the part needed, ordered the part and within two days returned to install the part.

+ 0 moreThis is the second time I used Al for electrical work. The first time was in 2012 just prior to my wedding which was at our home. Al was able to install outlets on our deck which were needed for the wedding and provided a temporary breaker wired into the main so we had enough power for the DJ and tent lighting. Based on that great service and experience Nickel Electric is the first and only choice for my electrical needs. This most recent time, Al, just as before was responsive, worked with our schedule, and was fairly priced.
Description of Work: Repair of 3 light fixtures and the addition of a GFI outlet on the front porch.

On first day of work, he arrived on time and walked through his plan before commencing work. There was a minor accident where he drilled into something that he hadn't seen, but he informed me immediately and proactively remedied the problem. I very much appreciate his honesty and his action to fix the problem. We have more work that needs to be performed in another property and will be using Alan again.
Description of Work: We needed electrical work done in our basement remodel project and contacted a couple electricians on Angie's List.

+ 0 moreI had a problem with my generator, and had contacted another electrician who couldn't fix it (and tried to sell me a new one when his efforts to repair the old one failed). Alan spent some time diagnosing the problem, and fixed the generator, getting it to run great, and saving me thousands of dollars that I might have spent on a new one. Later, I wanted to get some cable and internet wiring to hard-to-reach areas in my old 1800s farmhouse. Alan got everything wired just the way I wanted. Alan was very friendly and professional, and charged a fair price. I would definitely hire him again, and recommend him very highly.

+ 1 moreAmazing. Alan gave me an estimate over the phone and came promptly to do the work we discussed. He put together a fan with a light we had ordered and wired it so that we could turn it on via remote. When he ran into a problem in our bathroom installing a light, he had a great recommendation to solve the problem, and even added a new plug where we didn't have one before. Alan also cleaned everything thoroughly and left the space neat and tidy (no small feat in our house!). All in all, I couldn't be happier with his work - he's nice, efficient and great to work with. We've found an electrician for life!
Description of Work: Alan installed 2 lighting fixtures, assembled and installed a fan, and even installed a new plug and light switch in our bathroom to make it easier for us to turn on our lights and plug in!

+ -1 moreAllen, owner of Company came out as scheduled to give us an estimate, but pimarily to advise us on what we have to do to get our power working properly (very old home, electricty kept blowing out when two appliances re:oven & toaster oven etc running at one time). He took the time to do a thorough evaluation of our entire home and then sat down with us to explain what he suggests we do and not go bankrupt. We liked him right away. He was honest and worked out a payment plan that worked for us. He finished the job quickly, never left any dirt behind and did everything we asked him to do. I would recommend him to family and friends & anyone in need of electric work done. He is a very pleasant and professional guy. We will definitely use him again should the need arise.

Cabling on the Transfer Switch and Load center was nicely done. He address all my concerns with professionalism and he knows regulations very well. Not a single glitch on the testing. Alan recommend a plumber - David. He also did an outstanding job, gas line was fully protected and painted. He did also pressure testing and it was perfect. Town gas and electrical inspectors were very impress. Note: I had a power outage for 2 hours last week and everything worked perfectly.
Description of Work: Generator Install (Generac Guardian 11kW Automatic Home Standby Generator). Town permits . Recommend a plumber to do the plumbing work.

+ -1 moreAfter several days of not receiving bid, Alan was contacted again. We never received bid nor heard back from Alan We needed an electrician for several items. First of all our kitchen light had stopped working, so we had no light in our kitchen. Second, there were several trouble issues with switches, wiring, and motion detection devices that were mal functioning. Next, there were a number of out door lighting that we wanted install around the yard, and pool.

Description of Work: This electrician is very unprofessional. He scheduled an appointment for Tuesday evening and didn't show up until Wednesday evening. He spent some time speaking with my husband and left. He never contacted us again with an estimate. Just disappeared. Unfortunately this is the experience we have with most contractors.

+ -1 moreThe work Nickel Electric Inc. did for me was good, but his personality wasn't. He was arrogant. He just showed up at the house with no appointment. I woke up in the morning and there he was, digging a hole right at my back window. They had a subcontractor come out and didn't finish, and Nickel Electric tried to say it wasn't their responsibility to finish it. I made them come out and work on it. He was responsible for it because he hired the subcontractor and signed the contract with me. I've never dealt with such an arrogant person in my life. He never told us that we had to get a permit or that he was the one who was supposed to pay the gas guy. I don't want to ruin the guy. What he did worked. But I'd never hire him again. He didn't want to take responsibility for the work of his own subcontractor.

Prior to ringing my doorbell he took the time to examine the exterior of my house to ensure there were no issues that could be affecting my current situation. After taking a few minutes to get acquainted and explain the problems I was having, he took the time to explain what he wanted to check and what he was looking for. He took the time to explain what he was checking for and the results of his investigation. He also pointed out some of the pluses and minuses with my current configuration and what, if anything, to keep an eye out for. He
Description of Work: Alan took a look at a few issues as a result of a power surge the previous day. He was able confirm that a tripped circuit was not the result of any fault in the wiring and confirmed that a GFI was in fact not damaged as a result. He confirmed a damaged transformer for my doorbell and replaced it with a slightly more powerful one should I choose to upgrade. He also replaced the chime as that too seemed affected by the power surge.

Description of Work: Alan installed a generator connection box to our service panel. He arrived on schedule and completed the work without delay. A few months later I ordered a generator from Amazon and it came damaged. Alan happened to be a service contact for that brand of generator. He came over, repaired the unit and ensured it worked with the panel he previously installed. It also turned out that the generator needed some fine tuning so it ran smoothly and generated the proper output.

+ 0 moreWe needed a generator and I bought it from Costco after Alan recommendation. He installed it and was involved till we got permit from the town. An excellent job and about $2000 cheaper than other quotes I had. Alan is a real professional and not expensive. He charges only for the time he spends. In my case, I think he spent much more time than he estimated but still charged me the price he initially quoted. I do not think so I will find a better electrician than he is.

+ 0 moreHurricane Sandy toppled our neighbor’s 100 year old evergreen, breaking our common power pole and tearing the power lines off both our houses. Our 60 year old service entry cable was stripped off the house and damaged at the electric meter; the power company advised us that repair was essential for our safety and that of the house. We elected to upgrade from our 60-amp electric service and fuse-box distribution panel to an up-to-date 200-amp service and circuit breaker panel. Alan and his assistant spent from 8:00 am to past 6:00 pm installing the new service entry cable and meter box outside, and the new distribution panel in our basement. He followed up when the power company came to install the meter and re-connect us. The work was well and properly done, according to the inspector, and we have no worries. The new panel is even prepared for generator connection, should we decide to add one in the future. We’re highly satisfied.
Description of Work: Replacement of damaged electric service entry cable, obsolete meter enclosure and archaic electrical panel with up-to-date equipment.

Description of Work: I called Al on Saturday evening after unsuccessfully attempting to troubleshoot my blueray player. My attempt at self help left me with no blue ray, cable tv or stereo. We have a very sophisticated network that was installed by the prior owner of the house and that is well beyond my wiring comprehension. Al came over the next moring as promised, spent some time analyzing the exisitng wiring, repaired what I had done and suggested that we needed an additional HDMI cable in order for the blue-ray to work. I purchased the cable and now have my sysytem up and running properly.

+ 1 moreAlan and his worker did an excellent job installing the two lights and other work I asked themto do. Not only were the lights put in good locations, he was able to snake wire under my siding on one side so a chanel pipe didn't need to be showing. The other side required going under my house to neatly install the wiring for the secinf light again so asthetically it looked appealing. Alan was extremly professional, honest and did a great job. I have been searching for a while for an electrition who is honest, trutworthy and does good work. I have found those qualities in Alan and plan on using him again shortly to install a house generator.
Description of Work: Needed exterior lights put on my house for saftey reasons. Lights needed to be put on each side of house in an area that would trigger motion detector within 20ft of light. Also neeed old fuse box in garage changed out for cut off switch.

+ 1 moreThe story is the same as above. Mr. Nickel was a professional person. He came as he promised and he checked and rechecked everything. He used professional tools and he took the time to explain the results and how I needed to adjust when I turned on the various lights. When I asked about putting the heater on a separate circuit to the fuse box, he explained why it couldn't be done, as well as the time it would take, and how the expense would not be worth it. I felt that he knew his job inside and out and was honest about the feasibility of accomplishing certain tasks. I felt that he charged a fair price and I was satisfied with the service call.
Description of Work: I needed help with a fan which had a light included. The former owner of my house had told me that I couldn't have a bright light there, in other words, two 60 watt bulbs. They had 40 watt bulbs installed. The reason was that it would blow a fuse. Well, I called Mr. Nickle, and he set up an appointment. In my case, he came at night after he had finished some other work. I lliked the fact that he said he was concerned about me because of the fuse situation. He didn't want me to accidentally start a fire so he came as soon as he could. He looked at the fan and looked at the bulbs. Then he went to the fuse breaker box in my garage several times to test the amount of voltage at the different breakers. He told me that there was enough voltage and showed me, as well as explain to me, on his voltage meter, the results. The problem was that I also tried to use a portable heater in the room at the same time as turning on the light, and that's when the fuse blew. So he explained to me how the house was wired haphazardly where one half of a room was on one circuit and the other half was on another circuit. Because the outlet for the heater was on the same circuit as the fan as well as my living room lights ( a separate room), I couln't have everything on at once. In other words, I had to turn off the living room lights in order to use the fan with the light and the heater in the other room. The other problem I had was my outdoor lights. I had two, one near my front door, and the other near my garage. One was on, the one near the front door, but the other one was out. So I thought there was something wrong with the automatic timer. Mr. Nickel checked the front light and discovered that the bulb had burnt out. So once a new bulb was put in, both lights worked.

+ 0 moreHe is such a smart, good electrician. He happens to be one of the most genuine people I have ever met in my life, he is such a good person! We just had a power outage back in October, we were without power for around 7 or 8 days. Without power we have no hot water and no heat. He came to my home and took the time to fix my generator and wired up my heater so that I would be able to get hot water and heat.
