He’s been my electrician for five years and he’s excellent in all areas. I’ve used him regularly throughout the years and would highly. His prices are fair and customary. He does great, capable work. He has gone out of his way to provide us great service. He has fair prices and is reliable.
Description of Work: In November, after Hurricane Sandy, he completely rewired my electrical system because the wires were literally hanging off the side of the house and he fixed my GENERAC generator.

Newgrange was the first of about four electricians I contacted to get in touch with me. They set an appointment right away (which they had to postpone slightly, but it wasn't a big deal). Their technician arrived on schedule and completed the work neatly and in the time they estimated.
Description of Work: The electrician replaced five outlets in my bedroom and also corrected a short in an outlet in another room caused by the company that refinished the floor.

Unfortunately, the company is backlogged with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and the service I needed was not as critical as that. However, the office was EXTREMELY responsive, forthcoming about availability, and professional. While I'm not able to use them at this point, I expect to give them a call for future needs. I was quite impressed.

He was on time, polite and efficient. The only thing was he couldn't give me my Angie's member disc. as the ofc. was closed. After a few weeks they did call me back and did refund the discount. They saw my review here and did address the problem. They were very nice people.
Description of Work: During the storm Sandy our electrical wire became disc. The svc. man rerouted feed, extended neutral wire to reach eye hook. He reconnected svc. plate holder and LIPA feed to the house svc. wires.

I realize they are busy due to hurricane sandy repairs. I feel just because I don't have a big job to do they just brushed me aside. Poor business practice!

Response from Newgrange Electric Inc.
I am sorry that we couldn’t get to this job. We are working in an area where hurricane Sandy flooded a lot of our customers’ homes and business. We are working 7 days a week trying to get power restored and repairs made so people can get back into their homes and businesses. Customers who call in requesting work to be done we are asking them to keep calling around to other contractors as we don’t want to leave them waiting for weeks. Right now all we can do is add them to a list and try to get to them as soon as possible. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The staff were extremely courteous and accommodating on the phone. When I called I was unsure exactly what had to be completed. The person informed me of the minimum and said the electrician would remain until the job was finished. Helmo, the electrician was as nice as the staff who scheduled the appointment. He kept me abreast of the job as it was unfolding. He requested my input along to way as we clarified the contract together. Although Helmo had not anticipated a full day job, he maintained his friendly and professional demeanor. The tediousness of some of the repairs, mainly the jacuzzi in this old house, was trying a times. He preserved and fixed all the wiring!! The new owners are very grateful!! I would definitely recommend Newgrange in general and Helmo, specifically.
Description of Work: Was selling my house and the electrician, Helmo, worked with the engineer's report. He installed GFCI units in the kitchen and bathroom, rewired the parts necessary to operate the jacuzzi and various other items identified in the report.

For the estimate, the boss came over and was prompt arriving. I made sure to ask if he was licensed and insured and he said he was. I showed him the work that needed to be done and gave him a list indicating each thing. A day or two later, I received a written proposal from the company outlining the work to be done and the cost. A day or two after that the work began. However, the boss didn't come, one of his workers did. I wasn't sure if this guy was even licensed. However, he showed up on time and diligently worked throughout the day taking only about 30 min. for lunch. Most of the work he did was very good (but also consisted of simply replacing outlets), but it took a few days to realize that three outlets had not been fixed well. In the kitchen, two had to be remounted. This required the guy to use spackle which, as it turned out, had been layed on too thick and so cracked and buckled over the next week or so as it dried. While replacing the third outlet (in the living room), I later realized that some of the plaster had been knocked away from around the cover plate, so there was a small gaping hole next to it. It would have been nice if he'd repaired this. The worker himself was very nice and a hardworker, so I was disappointed to find out about the spackle/plaster issues. Perhaps if he'd started with the outlets that required spackling first, he would've had time to do several thin layers which would have time to dry, rather than the one thick one that cracked. Overall, I feel like the job was too high priced, compared to similar work done on other houses by other electricians. In terms of the cracked spackle, in hindsight, I should have contacted the company when I first noticed it to tell them about it and give them a chance to correct the matter, but I did not since I thought it was something I could more easily fix myself than carve out time to schedule a repair man to come over.
Description of Work: Since we have an old house (almost 75 years old), we wanted to have the old 2-pronged outlets replaced with new 3-pronged grounded outlets. Overall, we needed 17 of these outlets replaced. Additionally, we had two 220 volt washer/dryer outlets that had to be switched to 110 volt and remounted, an existing closet fixture that had to be replaced with a new one I'd bought, and 1 outdoor outlet had to be replaced with a GFI outlet and in-use cover.

Everything about the experience was great. The folks on the phone were helpful and professional. The scheduling of the appointment went smoothly (event though I kept calling and adding services). The technician arrived on time and was very professional. The house is old so here were a lot of difficulties, but he was pleasant about e difficulties and did am excellent job. E work took longer than expected so I need to schedule a follow-up appointment but I couldn't be happier with the work.

Helnio the electrician was sent to my house for the appointment. He arrived at 8am sharp and quickly got to work on the new outlet. He had to cut some holes in the wall the run the new line, but after his work he patched everything up that all i need to do now is give it another coat of compound, sand, and paint. I couldn't be happier. Newgrange has fulfilled my expectations!

First of all: really professional, showed up on time, performed the tasks quickly, dealt well with un-forseen problems. He had to figure out and fix/replace the ridiculously wired switch on the front wall. The neutural had the power running into it so the was always power running to the exposed wire outside! Then he dug a trench for the wire from the piers to the spot of the "hot wire." Then custom fitted the pier mounts to the tops of the pier (the tops weren't finished yet). Next he completely assembled a Philips Hanover Style (read- complicated) and attached to the piers. These guys are some of the best on Long Island, I think I'll have them back for some solar panels...
Description of Work: Installation of exterior pier mounted lights. We had pier mounts and a walkway built in the front awhile ago and finally bought the lights to match.

I called Newgrange along with several other electricians I had found on Angies List on a Friday afternoon for a consultation I hoped to have on Monday (bad planning on my part, I know). I wanted to relocate the electric meter in my coop apartment and the painters were to start on Tuesday. No one answered the phone and I left messages. Newgrange called back that afternoon (no one else did), assessed the situation as best as possible by phone, asked me to take photos with my phone and send them to him over the weekend, and made an appointment for Monday. He called a few times on his way on Monday morning because traffic was particularly bad in Manhattan that morning. We must have spent an hour together once he got there. He assessed the apartment, went to the basement of the building to look at the possibility of relocating there, talked with the super, and determined that it would really be best to leave the meter where it is. He answered all my questions along the way and left without charging anything. I will call Newgrange when I have an electric job that can actually be done!

The outlets went dead during use when the GFI tripped and couldn't be reset. I called Newgrange at 9:25 in the morning and described the problem. They had someone here in about half an hour and he discovered the GFI had gone bad, so he replaced it and we were back in business by 10:25 AM, just about an hour from my original call. The electrician was courteous and professional and I saved 10% by mentioning Angies List !

DJ was extremely courteous and professional. He was able to answer all the questions I had about the outage. I would call Newgrange for any electrical related issues in the future, and would recommend it to all my friends.
Description of Work: Half of my appliances in my house have been flickering on and off for about 3 weeks. I called Newgrange, and the electrician (DJ) came in on time the next day. Within half an hour, he diagnosed the problem to be a corroded connection on one of the two LIPA phases between the transformer and the electric meter outside the house. I asked DJ if he can fix it immediately, and he was able to reschedule another job so that he can continue fixing my problem. He installed new LIPA taps on each of the 3 lines (2 active phases + 1 ground) outside in about an hour. The estimate was $4000-500, but the final bill came to only $250.

A passing cement truck snagged the overhead power line and completely tore out the power, cable, and telephone feeds into my building (as well as the house across the street and also toppled a utility pole!). LIPA responded promptly but advised that even after they had made their repairs, which included placing a new utility pole, they would not be able to provide the power feed to my building until I had also made repairs which were not their responsibility. Having a business to run, I needed repairs done ASAP and was able to speak to someone at Newgrange immediately The accident happened at 10 am and they had someone out by 1 pm to evaluate the situation and coordinate with LIPA. They returned at 8 the following morning, had to rewire the feed into the circuit breakers as well as reconstruct the outside feed and electric meter, were ready when the LIPA repairs were complete and also had to work with cable company repair. We were back in business by late that afternoon with power, cable, and phones. This was a big job done well on short notice at a very fair price.
