Men showed up the same day we requested a proposal from him and began the job with a few days. His crew was professional and took extra care with ensuring our personal items were properly protected while the work was going on. He completed the entire project within 2 weeks. He even addressed a roof leak that occurred while the work was going on and kept our stress Levels to a minimum. He took care of everything and kept us very happy. We look forward to hiring him for our next project in our home.

It was very. They were always on time and professional.
Kenny and his team at Metropolitan Painting & Contracting took our 2BR co-op in Union Square, NYC down to the studs and then built for us our dream apartment. I can't say enough about the amazing job they did. We met Kenny and the Metro team through a friend, whose apartment Metro renovated. We were impressed with the quality and attention to detail and hired Metro for our renovation. Not only was their work of the highest quality, but the communication at every level of the team was excellent. Furthermore, the project was finished on time and under budget! We began construction in early December and moved in March 15. We have referred Metropolitan Painting & Contracting several times, usually after people see our apartment and ask for one and gladly sing their praises to the Angies List community. As a testament to their commitment to customer service, Metro returned a year later to add wallpaper to our nursery after we found out that we were having a girl!
Kenny and the team from Metro took our 2BR co-op in Union Square, NYC down to the studs and completely renovated it. We hired Kenny after seeing the quality of his work at a friends apt. Not only did he bring the same level of quality to our home, but exceeded our expectations in every way. Communication was incredible at every level of the Metro team and they completed the project on time (on an aggressive schedule - we started demo in December and moved in mid March) and on budget. As an example of the level of service and the commitment to its customers, Metro came back a year after completing the renovation to wallpaper the nursery when we found out we were having a girl! I have recommended Metropolitan Painting & Contracting to friends (typically upon request after seeing our apt!) and couldn't be happier to do so here on Angies List.
I've been slowly renovating my home over the past 20 years and have always used Metropolitan Painting & Contracting to do the work, which has ranged from room painting to gut renovations of bathrooms, kitchen, basement, window replacement, floor refinishing, roof & chimney repair plus other tasks. They are fully licensed, insured & bonded, so are not cheap. However you can be assured that the work will be done safely, correctly and up to code. And they clean up after every days work, so you can be in residence, while the work is ongoing.

I called on Tuesday to make an appointment for them to come out and see and price the job. I was told Tuesday after three was possible, Wednesday after three was a lock. I received no call informing me that they were unable to meet with me on either day, after setting aside time in my work day to meet with them. I called in asking for someone to reach out to me and I never received a call back. This sort of unprofessionalism in the mere appointment phase forces me to question whether they will even honor an agreement to complete the work if they deigned to schedule me.

Description of Work: Used this contractor for a full renovation of a 1 bedroom apartment - practically gutted. Fully replaced entire kitchen and bathroom. All the work was good quality and Ken really helped us deal with the building managment (co-op, lots of rules). I understand that contractors are bascially never on time with deadlines, but my only criticism is that as we were approaching the end of the work, things seemed to slow down some with issues scheduling various subs to come in.

I really liked the painter, Marco – he was excellent and he recommended putting on a special primer that no one else had previously mentioned. The owner, Kenny, came out to look at the job as well. The job took a little longer than we initially thought, but it was an overall good experience. I’d use them again and I’ve already recommended them to a friend, especially Marco.

He and his crew provided excellent service at a very fair price. He was ontop of the job and his 2-man crew were friendly and professional. They answered all my questions and gave more than a little bit extra without even asking. They arrived exactly on time and were super organized and quickly got to work. I am very happy with the results. I would definitely recommend this company for any painting job you might have.
Description of Work: I contacted Kenny to paint the interior of my 4-room co-op apartment. They repainted my bathroom and re-plastered and painted walls in my hallway, dinette, living room both bedrooms. I have put my co-op up for sale and this re-freshening should definitely help increase the value of my apartment.
I contacted Kenny/Metropolitan on Dec 6, 2012, he started work on Dec 10, 2012 and completed work on a 1500 sq foot 2 bedroom apartment on UES on Dec 21, 2012. They painted, skimmed coated walls, hung wall paper, replace molding, repaired crown molding, painted curtain rods and very large mirror, and repaired step that leads out to the terrace. Kenny was very responsive when I initially contacted him, I advised him that he was recommended by the building personal, and then I checked him out on Angie's List. We set a time to met and prior to that time, Kenny called to tell me he was caught up in traffic and would be about 20 minutes late. After being stood up by another contractor the day before, Lyric, it was refreshing to find someone who cared enough to call to say they would be late. Kenny is nothing but professional, actually all those that work for him that I had the pleasure to meet were extremely professional. Long story short Kenny and I hit it off, we negotiated the contract price, and had a start date set by the next day. Because Kenny works in the building all his paper work was in order, insurance etc. which made it even easier to have him start so quickly. On Dec. 10, Kenny walked in with Freddie, George, Marco and two other men, we all went over the job requirements, Freddie made sure that George and Marco (both who have worked for Kenny for 27 and 25 years respectfully) had everything they needed, and the four men started to work. Each morning for the next 9 work days Marco, George and the other two workers came in on time, ready to work, and work they did!!! I told Kenny and company that the bedrooms had to be completed by the first Friday, as my daughter was coming home from college and needed a place to sleep. Needless to say it was completed with plenty of time for me to change her sheets and make dinner and have a couple of cocktails. The first week they worked we were able to use the living room and dinning area, and I was able to make dinner each night, without dust etc. This really appealed to my husband. The second week, we were not able to eat home for three of the five nights, since the crew was working in the dining area, living room and long hallway leading to the bedrooms. Yet each night they made sure we were able to sit in the living room, watch T.V etc. When I am ready to re-do my bathrooms, I will call Kenny, without hesitation.
Description of Work: Skim coated the apartment, walls where needed, repair crown molding, replace molding, painted and wallpapered, painted curtain rods, mirror frame (quite large), repair step to terrace and buried cable wire.
I contacted Metropolitan Painting & Contracting through Angie's List for some painting and general contracting for work on my apartment due to their excellent reviews. Kenny the owner responded to my inquiry quickly and we setup an initial time to provide an estimate. Kenny and Freddy came to my apartment and provided me with a competitive quote. They started with the removal of the carpet in the living room and bedroom and then started on the removal of wallpaper in the apt. There was an issue with the removal of the wallpaper and they had to skim coat the walls. Unfortunately, this was unexpected and the cost was not included in their initial estimate of the work, ended up costing an additional 2 grand on top of the initial 5,500. I realize that this is a labor intensive job and I think it was a fair price. However, they told me about the additional cost after they were finished with all the work and never mentioned to me around how much this additional work would cost so I was a bit surprised at the total cost at the end. I would like to mention that Freddy went out of his way to look for wood tiles to match a couple of areas of the floor that were of a different color which needed to be replaced. They finished the work in about 2 weeks and this was during the time when the UN general assembly was taking place around my neighborhood! In all, they did an excellent job and my place looks like a brand new apartment. I was very satisfied, they were great at communicating and keeping me a breast of the work and would definitely use them again.

The job they provided had to be redone. I also had extra expenses to replace tiles. The wall was not safe, they had to knock out walls and remove tiles in order to stabilize the walls. Several contractors established that the work they provided was not acceptable. I implore your readers to be aware what they are in for, should they hire them for any work.

This client was totally unreasonable She purchased her own tiles. The work was completed on time. After tile was installed she expressed to us that she did not like the tile and wanted us to purchase and install new tile. Which is an unreasonable request. We have been doing this work for twenty five years and never had a client like this. We have an extensive list of recommendations. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us Truly Your Kenneth Kohler

The painting specifically went without a hitch, it was part of the bigger project but everyone who walks into our apartment is amazed at the level of quality and detail = especially around the mouldings and baseboard. Kenny (the GC) is a great guy and a pleasure to work with. I know that they work in a lot of other co-op buildings and have good relationships with many management companies.
Description of Work: Metropolitan gut renovated our co-op apartment and as part of that project prepped and re-painted all of the walls (and the custom moldings that they installed which are beautiful) They are great and while not the least expensive, you certainly get what you pay for which is top quality. I should add that we removed and cut out a lot of door frames as well and they did an immaculate job with the plastering before the painting as well. I'd recommend this crew for anything.

They are excellent. They are very professional. They show up on time. They are very calm and professional. They are very good. They gave me an estimate. They gave me in writing. They did it right away. They called me and showed interest in doing the job. They were definitely the best people I contacted. Their estimate was $4400 and it was less than all the other estimates I got. They were supposed to start the work on Monday, but I had to send them back because I have been facing problem with my building for the permit. They showed up right on time with the whole team. They are very accommodating. I am sure they will do an excellent job whenever they start the work.

I interviewed a few contractors and selected Metropolitan because they were incredibly organized and easy to get along with. As part of our first meeting, Ken Kohler and Rick Giannone showed me several apartments that they had renovated in my building and one that they were in the process of renovating. By the end of the first meeting, I had a reasonable verbal quote and was able to meet the guys that would be working on my apartment. I didn?t move in to the apartment until the renovations were complete. Throughout the process, Kenny and Rick were great about staying in touch through weekly meetings, calls and emails - so I always knew what was happening in the apartment. Having never renovated an apartment before, I was unsure of what to expect, but the entire team from Metropolitan made the process easy. They were extremely professional, answered all of my questions, made great suggestions and as a result I am so happy with the way the apartment looks!
Description of Work: Last year I hired Metropolitan to renovate my apartment (~950 square feet) on the Upper West Side. The renovations were extensive and included replacing and installing all new hardwood floors, building a walk-in closet in the master bedroom, completely renovating the bathroom and kitchen - all new appliances, tiles, custom cabinets, a custom bookshelf, new heating and air-conditioning units, all new lighting fixtures as well as rebuilding a wall in the living room.

Overall we were very pleased and we're not an easy bunch!
Description of Work: Metropolitan was the GC who handled the renovation of our 1000 sqft Manhattan - Upper East Side Co-op. We did a complete gut renovation including kitchen, bathroom, wall and door frame removals, added crown moldings throughout the apartment, painted and changed all of the doors. Ken Kohler (the General Contractor) was professional, honest, pleasant to work with and provided accurate guidance on resourcing and job completion time. The work was impeccable and our apartment now looks beautiful. We did a fairly high end renovation and Ken was able to assist with the selection of all of the custom fixtures, custom built cabinets in kitchen and bath and sourced hard to find granite and tiles. His team of craftsmen did great work especially on the walls, creating the pass-through kitchen, custom moldings, painting and installation of recessed and low voltage lighting. They were conscienscious, polite and worked quickly. The cabinets are all custom sized and have the little touches that make a kitchen perfect (soft close doors, thoughtful cabinet space, pantry and pull out spice rack).
