MPB Plumbing was contracted to install a total replacement HVAC system for our home. They installed a Brant oil furnace with A-Coil, complete new supply duct-work and bypass humidifier. The price, per the contract was supposed to be complete, nothing extra. After the job was started, they said that a certified HVAC installer would be required to re-charge AC system. Apparently, MPB has no certification and/or the proper ability/certification to purchase Freon 22 or to re-charge AC systems. This resulted in a $300 up-charge to another vendor. Problems noted during/after installation: 1. Improperly wired system thermostat, causing a blown fuse in furnace and destroyed thermostat. 2. Did not properly attach supply air duct-work to plenum and attempted to cover this up with duct tape. 3. Damaged (scratched screen) 60" flat screen TV while installing duct-work in theater room. 4. Left 4" gap in top (out of sight) seam in main return air duct at furnace. 5. Installed compression fitting in refrigerant line to AC condenser as opposed to a soldered fitting as it should be. Had to be replaced by HVAC Installer. 6. Improperly installed flu draft regulator and did not have proper equipment to adjust. 7. Shortly after installation the fuel oil pump started leaking which had to be replaced. 8. Installed a Saddle-Tap on PEX water line to supply water to humidifier. This resulted in a leak as a Saddle-Tap should not be used on PEX plastic tube as a proper T-Fitting/shutoff is available for this. MPB was contacted on several occasions to correct problems and always promised to take care of things but to date has never shown up. After initial installation of furnace, we inquired about replacing our old fuel oil tank in basement. We were given a fair price but the contractor, Mark of MPB stated that they wanted to use PEX Tubing for the oil lines from the tank to furnace. This immediately sent up a RED FLAG as PEX (plastic tubing used for water) is NOT RATED FOR FUEL OIL! Had the installation of PEX been allowed, it would have violated all known building & fire codes, not to mention creating a severe FIRE HAZZARD should the PEX be exposed to high heat or abrasion. If you read this and have unknowingly allowed MPB to install PEX for a fuel oil line in your home, Turn Off The Oil Supply and call your local building inspector and/or fire department ASAP. Bottom line is that we would not recommend MPB Plumbing & Heating. They are both unqualified and incompetent. Also, employees continually lie when questioned about issues.
