+ -1 moreThey measured, but once the card number was given, they advised they will send somebody to remeasure to make sure that it is accurate. Then I was assured that there is no need to remeasure. But when the door was installed it was short.

+ -1 moreEverything went well. A good experience. Salesman Craig was pleasant, not high pressure. Installers were professional. Cleaned up well An important caveat played a role in my choosing Universal. It is very important to check out the manufacturer of the windows. Universal used Ideal Windows for my project. The company has been has been in business for 90 years and has good reviews. The windows I replaced were installed about 9 years ago. The contractor was an Angie’s List certified provider. When the windows started to develop condensation between 5 and 7 years after installation, I called and asked that they be replaced as they were under warranty. I was told that the window company went out of business and the contractor would not stand behind the warranty. He said the companies go out of business all the time, and that the same people may even reopen them under another name. It would be too expensive for him if he had to stand behind all his window companies. I was surprised that he dealt with fly-by-night companies. Happily, this is not the case with Universal Windows.
Description of Work: They replaced 5 windows that had developed condensation in the space between glass panes.

+ -1 moreEverything went well. There salesman came out to give and estimate for 11 windows. Windows took about 2 to 3 weeks to manufacture then they call to setup a date for installation. Steve and Garnette did a great job on installation which took one full day. One removed old windows while the other installed new windows. All debris was cleaned and sweeped up. Windows were neatly installed, capped and sealed. They took away the old windows also.

+ -1 moreStephen the installer & his partner arrived on time. Got straight to work, top windows first, to bottom/ basement last. Removed each old window methodically & as carefully as possible, and installed new one as they went. Had laid down blankets in each area and also cleaned thoroughly as they went. Used top match caulking known in the industry, and made all windows look smooth in the opening, explained where the house had settled & used levers to demonstrate when windows were level but house was not. Professional, polite, efficient. Very good represent as at their company.
Description of Work: Had a double pane sliding windows installed into an old row house. They removed original aluminum windows & frames & disposed of them. Performed a quality brick –to-brick installation of each window.

+ -1 moreSteve arrived on the hottest day of the year and was yet most pleasant and hard working in the services he provided. He paid attention to all details of the process to ensure the job was done properly. He took the time to listen and answer questions. Upon completion he asked me to try the doors to make sure I was satisfied with the installation. He was most diligent, and swept the job site clean before leaving. It is too soon to rate the quality of the doors since they have just been installed. They look new and nice at the moment, but the duration of the product will determine its true value. Steve assured if I encountered any concerns or problems with the job, I should call.

+ -1 moreI haven't had any windows installed yet because the closing date on my house got pushed back. I will update this review if I go through with their services!
Description of Work: Universal Windows sent Craig over to discuss window options with me. He arrived on time, measured all windows in my house, and explained the various types of windows available, including why I would choose one option over another depending on my needs. I had a lot of questions and he answered all of them. At the time, I wasn't sure if I would stay with the type of windows I had (sliders, in an old house), or go with double-hungs, which would be easier to clean and could also accommodate air conditioners. He was happy to give me 2 different quotes so that I could think about it. Finally, he was the second window guy I had asked to come over (I ended up asking about 5 different companies for quotes!) and he gave me some answers that made me feel like he'd been in the industry for a while, knew what he was talking about, and also didn't believe in cutting corners. Bear in mind, Craig was the rep and not the installers, and I haven't had anything installed (yet) so can't attest to the performance or quality of the windows, or the installation service. They do have a showroom with some windows available for viewing, which I intend to take advantage of when I have the time.

Description of Work: They did two jobs for me - (1) installed two custom-made security doors & (2) installed 4 custom-made windows. The salesman was very helpful and the installers were real professionals. However, I found the owner (who does the measurements for all jobs) difficult to deal with. These projects were done in 9/2008 & 6/2009.

+ -1 moreI was very happy with them. They were excellent and I would highly recommend them. I spent over $2000 for their service. They did a very good job. I got windows once before from someone else, but I wasn’t that happy with that company. Universal Window Co is the best company that has ever done any work here. I liked everything about them. Their quality is good and there are no leaks. Their service was good. I had some problem with one screen and they came right away to fix it. They were easy to get along with and they knew what they were doing. I don’t really know about their price. Somebody else recommended them to me. I would use them again if I have to.

+ -1 moreThe price that they quoted us was $5500 for that work. The man that came out was very prompt and preview. The problem was that I asked for the estimate in writing and he never submitted that to me, so we did not use them. They gave us a verbal estimate by phone and I needed it by e-mail.

+ -1 moreI was so pleased with them on a previous job, I called them to do my windows. They did a great job and were very reliable. Any requirements that I needed, they came back and addressed. For example, one of the awnings broke in the back and they came back and replaced the entire window. They stand behind their work and that is what I liked the best. They were also highly competitive with their price.

+ 0 moreIt went great.... Universal rep came with many different windows and doors to choose from and explained in detail what would an would not go in this over 90 year old home in Forest Hills. Very helpful, friendly. NO pushy sales here! After order was made, they also had Rep return to 're-measure' which is totally smart in my book. Took around 6 weeks or so, as I also order a front entry door with a steel security storm door. The 3 workers, 2 that worked on the windows and the 1 carpenter for the door, all arrived on time. The work went as smooth as silk, with no problems whatsoever.
