Safety First Chimney Sweeps

Mr. Baker spread tarps to protect the rug and area surrounding the mouth of the fireplace. He cleaned the chimney of all of the maple limbs and leaves a squirrel was stuffing in it. He then capped the chimney to avoid having the same problem all over again. The problem has ceased, thanks to Mr. Baker's work. He was courteous, friendly, and a pleasure to have doing the necessary work.

It went great. It was really professional and we were very pleased with the services rendered.

From the estimate to the completion, he was accessible and kept me posted when a slight delay occurred.

I wrote an entire litany about the experience, he got the time mixed up, showed up dirty, no apologies. Gave him a second chance and he showed up an hour early but as much as I can tell, did a good job.

He made an impossibly messy job extremely neat. He was so nice and explained every step. He made sure to explain how to do the job safely so in case anyone ever tried to do it without safety measures we would understand how it impacted us. I would use him every time. This is the man who you would want to use, he even has the top hat.

We call and make an appointment - Bob does send out yearly reminder cards. Bob comes, lays down tarps to protect the floor, cleans out the insert, then cleans the chimney removing any soot build up. He vacuums everything and removes his tarps and equipment. Job is always done very well.

I have used Safety First several times. We've had our chimney cleaned on a couple different occasions. Bob is always very friendly and professional and cleans up everything. You'd think there'd be some soot and dust after cleaning the chimney but he puts down tarps and there's no mess. Most recently, we had Bob apply "Chimney Saver" to waterproof the chimney. We also wanted some cracks filled in that we had noticed on the chimney. He came by and gave us a free estimate. When we decided to proceed with the work, it took a few weeks to get the work scheduled but that was because of our very wet spring! He called periodically to let me know he hadn't forgotten about me and called again when he was finally able to schedule the work on a dry day. While Bob doesn't do full chimney rebuilds, he was able to do what we needed. He had given me an estimate of $400 but when he got up there to do the work, some of the cracks were larger than he thought and required more repair. However, he stuck to his estimate, which I appreciated. I'm sure we'll use Safety First again and I don't hesitate to recommend them.

I had previously called another local chimney sweep and left a message with an answering service. The owner called a few days later and planned to set up an appointment, but he never followed up. When I checked Angie's List, I learned that Safety First had two positive reviews. I talked to Bob Baker personally and he said he would do the job the following week. They were prompt, although they came about 10 minutes later than originally planned. Bob discussed the options and prices with me. He asked me if I had any problems with the fireplace or if I had any specific requests. Then he and his partner set up a tarp on the floor around the fireplace and moved nearby items out of the way. Cleaning the fireplace/chimney took very little time, surprisingly (perhaps 15 minutes), and there was no mess. They then went on the roof and installed the chimney cap. I was pleasantly surprised to see them do such work in the middle of winter and despite the snow and cold. There was no pressure to sell me the cap, but it seemed a good idea to install the cap to keep birds and squirrels out of the chimney. My house is surrounded by a lot of trees and I frequently see squirrels on the roof.

Everything went very well. The guys were very friendly, clean, and efficient. Cloth was placed around the fireplace to keep the house clean, they explained what they found, cleaned the chimney, and told us a recommended schedule for the next service depending on how much wood we burned. They were very friendly to our children and even gave them some coloring books. I would definitely use them again.

Better than expected. There is no mess in order to avoid carcinogens (which I learned from Bob)
