EJ's Contractors CNY just finished a roofing job for a rental property I have in a residential area (Fayetteville). Eddie came recommended from an electrician/plumber friend of mine. Job was top notch from start to finish. Entire roof tear off and replacement done in one day (proper tools and crew size). Owner works along side the crew for the duration and personally came back next day for finishing touches and trim work. I've worked with a fair amount of contractors and Eddie was easy to work with, the job was done right and in a timely manner, and the price was fair. The tenants love their new roof and complimented the whole operation (he used to be a roofer so he knew what to look for). I have already recommended this company to friends/family since this was my first time working with them. Thanks, Eddie and thank you to Brian for the recommendation!

Ed started when he said he would (actually 1 day sooner) and did a great job. Ed was on the job site every day - actually the first to arrive each day, Employees were polite and hard workers. The property was left spotlessly clean when they were done. There was some accidental damage done to the gutters (which admittedly were older). Ed immediately volunteered to have them replaced at his cost. EJ's performed in every way beyond my expectation!

This was an incredibly positive experience. I had to obtain three quotes and Ed was the only one who was willing to drive out and meet me on my schedule. He got up on the roof with me and quickly measured the area and diagnosed what needed to be done. He provided me with a detailed quote, breaking down each of the asks and presented to me in writing on the spot. At no point did I feel pressured or like I was being misinformed. After dealing with the other contractors on this job it was obvious that Ed was the clear choice. He won the bid and got the work done in a timely manner. It has been 5 months, and all of the work has help up beautifully. I will definitely get more work quoted from Ed in the future.

Found Ed's pricing to be fair and reasonable. We only moved into the area a few months ago and had a problem with a leak in the roof. Rather than waste time trying to fix it, we decided to replace that portion of the roof completely. We will finish the job towards the end of summer when hopefully our other house sells. When we purchased the new house in Canastota we knew coming in that the roof only had two years left at best. Anyway we found that his crew is quite professional and constantly working to get the job finished. If Ed left to get some additional materials needed for the job, they kept working. (Didn't stop because the boss was gone). I was impressed on their clean-up. He has one of his men constantly cleaning up and making sure everything is clean. When they were finished the job you never knew they were here. Ed figured a full day, however it took a little longer than he anticipated, but he kept his crew here and finished. The owner (Ed) is always on the job. By the way a full day for them is 7am to 8pm. They just keep working. They do excellent work, give you what you want and will definitely use them for the balance of the job at the end of the summer.

This is still ongoing. So far all I have is a lot of miscommunication, but I think this might be a fault in the system and Angie's list, not by the contractor. It is frustrating nonetheless.
Description of Work: Update 7/24.I finally called the contractor myself. The jury is still out, but I am hopeful. The contractors sounds sincere and I have updated my overall review to reflect this. Since no service has occurred I will update this again later. It turns out that the contractor did try to contact me, but only through a private message through Angie's List. Why did I have to provide my personal phone number and personal information and then had to dive into Angie's List to find out that someone was trying to contact me when I had paid upfront? Perhaps this is a fault of the system and not the contractor? I just don't know. It is the quality of the work that will really matter. I don't know. I bought a coupon from Angie's list for discounted serives. I was supposed to be contacted within 2 business days. It has been over ten days now. I never heard from the company. Very disappointing first experience with the company and Angie's list. Maybe someone will care now that I write this review.

AFTER TWO ATTEMPTS, EDDIE CAME BACK FOR A THIRD TIME...We had to leave for a California trip lasting two weeks, and we asked Eddie to attempt a third time even if we were not at home. He and his staff came over while we were away and, low and behold, he finally found the problem hiding in the chimney stack (others looked there as well but it was well hid and they missed it). This time Eddie found the holes and patched them, putting the time in that it needed to fix it. After ten days the fix and several thunder storms, the ceiling in the living room has not leaked. He said if it ever did again, he would h***-bent on fixing it, despite the pain and 30-foot roof. He is an amazing young man, and quite the professional. He never says "DIE." He reminds me of me when I was an active Marine Corps staff in the 2nd Marine Division oh so long ago...While there are many "roofers" in Onondaga County, few of them have the moral conviction to do the job until it is done right. Eddie is at the top of this list. {We are scheduling him and his crew for a new roof when the time comes to do it right. We know it will be and for the money, it should be, don't you think, Angie?}
Description of Work: EJ'S CONTRACTORS ARE EXPERTS IN ROOFING. We had a very persistent leak in our living room, and three other roofers tried to find the leak, but failed. The leak was hiding itself in a place even the best roofers count not find. But after three attempts, and not wanting to replace the entire roof, we asked Eddie (the owner) to keep on trying because after several attempts by others, and with Eddie's expert appraisals by other "Angie's List" members, we decided to keep him on the job, come heat or high water.

I was expecting him to go up the roof to check but he didn?t. So I don?t know whether he planned to do that when he comes the next time or not. I cannot say that I give him a satisfactory rating but he was hard to reach. He was out of town for two weeks. He was fine when I saw him. I think he was just busy. I was just expecting him to look at the roof but it never happened. I will try to call him again if he can do the job.

It was a terrible experience.They not only removed snow from the roof but also shingles to go with it.They also removed the snow from the very top roof pier and dumped it on the second roof pier and making the problem worst. EJ contractors also committed a very well known roofing 101 mistake that they only removed the snow 5 feet from the edge.Well what this caused was an ice dam further up from the roof edge that caused extensive and costly water damage in our upstairs bathroom. As this was later explained to us by other roofing companies that came and removed the entire snow from the roof and the higher up ice dams created by EJ contractors.. The other companies were shocked as to why EJ contractors would do such a novice mistake.We are now stuck hiring a contractor to redo all our ceiling and intricate crown molding in our bathroom. An estimate now in the thousands to fix. He also dumped all the snow on our driveway and front of house. I would avoid these guys like the plague.

Wow. Is all I can say. I was called back to say that the snow was dumped into the lower and porch roof and I promptly came back and removed ALL the snow from the lower non heated open porches. As far as the other "roofing contractor", contractors are very "cut throat" and will gladly throw another contractor under the bus to make themselves look better. At the time of service, it was performed on time and I shoveled well past the current ice dams at that time. And I was referred to another colleague of this customer to shovel their roof as well, at the time they seemed pleased. Needless to say, this is the first time I was notified of ANY issues with the service that was performed. I apologize for your bad experience and I can assure you that It's not common for me to recieve bad reviews

AWESOME! I called on Friday and he said he couldn't get to me until Monday. We'd had a lot of snow and i thought that was good timing, but he called on Sunday and said he could be over in 2 hours. He was here right on time, did the job in no time at all and it was great. We have a two story house with two car garage and the ice dam in the front was horrible. I already have a friend who is interested in calling him. I would certainly hire him again. Our house is approximately 1700 ft and that does not the two car garage that he did. Good Deal!!!!!!

I called and talked to Ed Purcell, the one in charge. I told him the roof was popping and crackling and I was afraid it would collapse. I told him I had a small ranch house (it is1056 sq ft). He said he would charge me $275. I told him I just wanted most of the snow weight removed, not really down to the roof, and I was not concerned about the ice. I was very happy that he and a helper arrived rather quickly, and before they started working I confirmed with Ed that it would be $275. They did work quite a while, as there was a lot of snow, and the weather was brutally cold. Ed knocked on my door and said they were through. I looked, and snow had been taken off down to the roof but none over the top of my one-car attached garage. (Roof was continuous over the house and garage.) I asked why the snow over the garage had not been removed, and Ed said there was more snow than he expected and that my house was not small. He talked rather angrily to me and raved about how he really wanted to go and ski, and his worker had been woke up to come here, etc., etc. He said though that he would take the snow off the garage if I paid him $300 altogether. I asked him if he might damage my roof because he was angry, and he reassured me that he would not. It was very cold and there had been a lot of snow, so I told him OK. They did take the snow off the garage. As far as I can tell, they did a good job finally, but I am not able to inspect the back or sides of the roof or the house because of the snow in the yard. Ed did apologize before he left for the way he talked to me.

It's hard to quote a price over the phone. It was brutally cold and I did get testy with her. I shoveled her entire roof for a very reasonable price within an hour of her service call. This snow and cold has everyone on "Edge" and I admit to being testy with her. She initially wanted only "some weight" removed, but I decided to shovel it completely down to the surface because it was obvious that the weight was causing stress to the structure (edges of roof bowing). I apologized to her for getting upset, it was just simply a miscommunication as to what was going to be done service wise. In the end everyone was happy and she has a roof without 2+ feet of snow on it

Called Edward on a Sunday, not expecting to be serviced then. He said he'd be over in about an hour. It'd been heavily raining the day before, and raining slightly on Sunday. They arrived, and did a check of the roof. He sealed around the chimney. He showed me photographs he'd taken indicating that the roof was nearing it's end. We called again again the following Wed. and told him that the leak had gotten worse. Again, he came right over (from Manlius). This time he said that it was indeed worse, and pointed out that the water dripping was clean, and was a plumbing issue. He probably spent about an hour trying to isolate the problem. Finally, he narrowed it down to the dishwasher. He said have a plumber come take a look at it. He did not charge me for the second visit. We then called a plumber in. He took apart the dishwasher and it was leaking! Needed replacement. The photos he provided did indicate that this twenty four year old roof did need replacement.

Completely blown away by Ed. Called him at 2pm on Friday (based on positive Angie List reviews) to see when he was available to take a look at my leaking garage roof. Before I could even finish describing the issue, he already knew the problem (crappy metal ridge vent). To my surprise, he came out to my house (20 minutes away), gave me a market level price (had a price point from an ex-roofing friend) and completed the job by 3:30pm! Took him 90 minutes from time of my call to drive over, completely tear out my 20 ft. garage vent and replace it with the higher end plastic vent shingled over. Dude is a pro. Needless to say, I was shocked, considering I thought it'd take a week to get this done. Maybe I hit Ed at the exact right time, but he was fast, responsive and was even honest about the quality of my roof, not trying to upsell me on anything. I will definitely use him for all my roofing needs and refer him to others.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly? The Good: The tear-off and the new shingles came out fine. In addition, we had some junk in the garage and they added this to their dumpster at no charge. The Bad: The original crew was not able to complete the soffit and trim work, so another crew was sent to do this work. Work was a total mess. I live out of town, so took a week or so to get over to see the completed work. EJ's apparently did not check to confirm either that the work was done or that the quality was acceptable. When I saw how bad the work was, I took pictures and sent them to EJ's and advised I was concerned about bats or insects because of all the openings. Their response seemed to agree with my assessment? "I agree that the fascia work on the side porch is pretty terrible. I don't know of he forgot his siding brake or what, but unacceptable either way. And he obviously didn't have any white caulking with him as well. I will remedy that ASAP when I'm in the area. I will not be using that siding guy again! I apologize for that, and appreciate the photos documenting the bad fascia." Fast forward 10 months to October of 2014. My brother-in-law is now back from overseas, and living in the house so I haven't been watching it. Get a call that the porch roof is full of bees and they have now made their way into the house the house is full of bees. When I checked, turned out the work that EJ's said they would get to "ASAP" in November 2013 still had not been completed. Called EJ's for an explanation and was told he had been busy but the work was still on his "To Do" list. When pressed, he said he would get out by the next Friday. No show. Gave him another week, still no show. Called again. He said he would come out on Sunday. No show. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of paying him before the work was 100% completed last year, so this all I can do now is warn others. ALL contractors will have issues from time to time. The difference between the good ones and the not so good ones is how they respond to those issues. This contractor has been given 10 months and several reminder opportunities to make this right. To date, he has not. The Ugly: I'm not a roofer, so I relied on EJ's to tell me what needed to be done. When I went to inspect the completed work, I found there were not soffits included along the rear and side of the garage, leaving direct access to the garage from the outside. I thought I had made it clear that I was more concerned with getting the job done right, than in getting the lowest price, but apparently not so. When I saw these were missing, I also asked EJ's about them. He said he hadn't included soffits, so the appearance was what he intended. After reviewing the Proposal, I saw there was no specific reference to the soffit work. I then asked him to quote me a price to "complete" the work that I felt was necessary. He said he would do that when he came out the fix the work referenced above. To date, no quote, so all the edges of the garage are still open to the outside. For those that are interested to see the work done by this contractor, go to: http://www.nsms.com/flashgallery/roof.html This slide show is powered by Flash, so if you are unable to see it (some Apple products), the loose photos are available here: http://www.nsms.com/photos/roof/ I'm still hopeful that EJ's will eventually make this right, but thought it necessary at this point to warn others about what type of service they may encounter and to advise that any that are asking for quotes be VERY specific about what you want and what you believe you are getting, and that you be sure you are satisfied that 100% of the work has been completed before making payment.
