Two guys came out to do the initial check of work needed. They went into the attic to assess the leak issue we were having. The roof is new, so we ruled that out. They looked at the work from the outside and provided a quote. I hired them based on the reviews on Angies. I didn't get too many quotes for this. A couple of other vendors never showed up and I just needed the work done. The price seemed fair.

Mr Chimney does not charge you for an estimate and then you can decide whether you want to have the job done or not. They were thorough and they looked professional. They didn't do much because apparently it was fine. I liked the fact that they gave us an estimate and did not pressure us to do any work.
Description of Work: I used Mr Chimney. They were checking our both our chimneys which were both clean and they gave us an estimate for replacing our filter for our water heater.

Mr Chimney promptly returned calls for estimate & estimate was done in timely manner. The professionals who came were friendly & provided written estimate on the spot. A time was set for the removal but then Mr. Chimney called asking if they could re-schedule. It was explained to them that this would be inconvenience to homeowner who had coordinated this w/ oil to gas conversion; Mr. Chimney then called back & agreed to perform removal on original date. The workmen arrived a little late on that day but got to work quickly once they did arrive. Homeowner had concern because pipes that were covered w/ asbestos disappeared into stuccoed ceiling & had been assured by Mr. Chimney that ceiling would be opened up if asbestos continued under ceiling. After job was completed homeowner was told that asbestos didn't continue under ceiling so there was no need to open up ceiling; homeowner, of course, had not been present during removal & so had to take their word about this. At any rate, the job appears to be well-done & was completed within 4 to 5 hours. The premises were left clean w/ no debris. Air testing was done by separate company but report has not yet been received by homeowner.
Description of Work: Asbestos was removed from our basement pipes. Air quality was tested by another company before & after the procedure.

Their representative came with guys on the truck to work on my house that has a basement and what was originally a coal burning furnace with a thousand pipes overhead that plug into the base part of the chimney. He told me that they couldn't take all of it apart, but he could dig a hole and come in from the back and that's what they did. He showed me the flue liner which looked liked used aluminum and was falling apart. They did the whole thing and basically dug up a 2 1/2 foot square hole in the chimney wall. They brought in this stuff that looked like a silver slinky and threaded it up from there all the way to the top where someone else was on top of the chimney. He was up pretty high and I guess they had to take off the mesh cover so they could get something in there. They did it clean and neat. They were very reliable and finished the job perfectly. They cemented the hole and my basement was spotless. I trust that it's done well and our furnace is fine. I also didn't know that they were doing asbestos because that's an area that's so open to dishonesty. I called them and the same guy arrived. We talked about the asbestos and I agreed to do it. When they came he had someone next to him that was sort of like the head contractor for asbestos or the foreman of the job and they also had some other people on the truck. They basically told me that they were sealing off the basement and goodbye. They covered everything with tarps and seemed to have left it in the same state that it was in when they came. I had a lot of boxes and things in the basement and had organized all of them. The pipes were all covered in the furnace room and an adjoining room. It was quite a job of climbing up on ladders and taking the asbestos off, but when they left the place smelled pretty badly. They told me it would last a day, but it was more like a week. I think it was the solvent that they used for the final cleanup. The pipes were all shiny considering they were covered with asbestos since 1929. They charged what they quoted, did what they said they were going to do, and did it in a day. They left the place, again, clean and neat. They were honest, punctual, and very professional. When we put the deposit down there wasn't any hassle about money because we always pay right out. You did have to pay extra for a pre-asbestos test for stuff in the air and you paid for another test afterwards, but he said that it was part of the deal. They were great and did quality work. I haven't had to call them back for any reason and I would recommend them.
Description of Work: I used Mr Chimney once before to clean my fireplace and they also replaced my furnace flue liner. I recently had them come out to remove asbestos off of some pipes in the basement.

It all went weel from Ken's visit for an estimate to the finished product. So far so good!
Description of Work: Ken was great, very straightforward and responsive. We changed days and he was fine with it. The crew had a lousy day to work so I felt bad asking them to fix the cap at the top, twice, but they did it. They reclined the furnace chimney. Just make sure you are home and can supervise, things like replacement of chimney caps.

There were bricks that had come down off the chimney from storm Sandy and there was damage around the top of the chimney. They came when they said they were going to come which is unlike some of the other people I called. I think they seem like a good company.

They did a great job, removed and cleaned everything. There were no price surprises, they gave me a quote and that was the price, even thought they removed an extra piece that they had missed. There was a scheduling issue as the appointment before mine took too long so they couldnt make it to my house - but they called, let me know and we rescheduled no problem. I appreciate them calling and letting me know, not just not showing up. The price I put above is approximate, I can't remember exactly what it cost.

We had asbestos removed in our basement. The guy who came to give the estimate changed his schedule for us so he would not be late. We were given an estimate over the phone of $2500-$3500 for the job. The work was done in one day including the air inspection. The final cost was $3000 for the removal and $550 for the air inspection. This was a fourth of the price another company quoted us. The workers were professional, punctual and friendly. We will definitely use them for our chimney and will write a review on how that goes.

I converted my home from Oil to Gas, so I contacted Mr. Chimney after seeing the reviews on Angie's List. The appointment was scheduled rather quickly for the initial inspection (less than a week) and they were able to schedule me the next business day to complete the work. The men who came to give me the estimate were professional and appeared to be competent. The estimate they gave ($2100) was more than the other estimate I received from another company ($1600). However, the other company was very pushy and alarmist sounding, which I did not appreciate. Mr. Chimney recommended the same items, but weren't pushy stating that the work does not need to be done for at least a year. The next business day, they completed the work. They sent 2 different workers who did an excellent job in terms of completing everything to our liking and cleaned up after themselves. They also gave us a brief tutorial on how to use our chimney properly and safely. The only wish is that they were a bit cheaper. It only took the workers 3 1/2 hours to install the caps, clean the chimney and install the new liner and I wish it was a little cheaper. I tried to haggle with the first workers when doing the contract, but was not successful. However, we were satisfied with the work in terms of the quality, speed and cleanliness.

Martin & Francis showed up on time and did a nice neat job. They put down plastic and a padded blanket on the wood floor. They fabricated a plastic tent around the fireplace & worked inside of it, as not to create any dust or debris in the living room. They installed the damper & put the chimney cap back on that was blown off by Sandy. They inspected the flue & I was told it was in good shape. They were very respectful, polite and did a great job . But for some reason after the damper was installed, smoke billowing into my living became a big problem . I didn't have this problem before the damper was installed. Seems to me that the damper is restricting the flow. Since it created a smaller vent space. Recently, Mr Martin contacted me and resolved this issue with the upmost professionalism. I am once again satisfied with Mr Chimney. Thank you Mr Martin, much appreciated.
Description of Work: Ken came by for a chimney inspection. He informed me that I needed a damper installed. He quoted me a price on 2 types of dampers. He was a bit negotiable. I did not feel like shopping around. So I went with it. Job description consists of a new damper installed, an inspection & to put my chimney cap back on.

The team (2 people) showed up on time. They were courteous, good guys and got right down to work. They cleaned out the chutes from top and down and cleaned up the area after they were finished. They also took a picture of my chimney top which showed that it is lacking a cap. At their suggestion, I purchased a custom cap from them for $600. Am looking forward to having the company back at the house to install the cap.

We decided to proceed with the work with Mr. Chimney, primarily as a result of the reviews received on Angie's List. They have the licenses to work in Yonkers. We were grateful to get an appointment the following Saturday, basically no waiting. The crew showed up again, on time, at 8:30am. All the furniture and carpets were moved and/or covered securely. The work took until mid afternoon, with the chimney cap replaced as well. Our living room was left as neatly as before. The original flue opener and closer was reinstalled, a positive for us, as we prefer to retain the house's original details as much as possible. The crew were very nice and answered all our questions. We can't comment on price because we did not seek any alternate bids. We had an initial positive impression of the company, and decided to proceed. We look forward to using our fireplace safely for many seasons to come. And we highly recommend the services of Mr. Chimney, who accommodated our weekday work schedules in order to get the job done.
Description of Work: After experiencing a problem with our living room fireplace during the recent blackout caused by Hurricane Sandy, we contacted Mr. Chimney. Smoke was building up, upstairs and because the power was out, we could not identify the source. We called and were given a Saturday appointment, waiting maybe 1-2 weeks. However, our problem was not an emergency needing immediate action, there were probably lots of other more serious problems experienced by other homeowners that were caused by the storm, so we were ok with waiting until we could get the day and time we needed. The Mr. Chimney crew showed up on time, and after inspection, informed us that we needed a new chimney liner, since we were using the original clay liner from 1932. They explained where the problem in the clay liner was, in the middle to the upper part of the chimney, with pieces having broken off. We were given a repair estimate in writing. There was no high pressure to change the liner. We were a little surprised, since we had the fireplace cleaned 2 years ago, and we only make a couple of fires during the winter season. Oh well, a Thanksgiving surprise...

We needed a chimney inspection and recommendation of work needed in conjunction with our planned conversion of our oil boiler to gas. The estimator gave a good description of the chimney condition. Even though he would have certified the chimney as is, we opted to install the liner now rather than in a year or two. The work was coordinated beautifully with the installation of the boiler. The workers were prompt, very professional, and did a beautiful job. We are pleased.

Mr. Chimney arrived and determined what size fan we needed based on the size of our fireplace. They then took it up to the roof and mounted the fan atop the chimney and drilled a hole where the electrical wiring connected the fan to our home's circuitry. (We also had an electrician there to complete the wiring.) We tested the fan with a fire in the fireplace once the installation was complete, and there wasn't any smoke in the house! :)
Description of Work: We have a two-sided fireplace that did not have a strong enough draft. As a result, anytime we tried to use the fireplace, the house would become extremely smoky. Mr. Chimney installed an Exhausto fan on top of our chimney, which now allows smoke from the fireplace to vent properly.

They basically removed asbestos from a hundred feet of pipe. When I called them I talked to the owner. He asked me how much pipe I had. I told him and he said about $2000.00. We gutted the basement because we were doing a remodel. When his son got here he saw there were no obstructions and he did not have to climb over stuff. He said this is going to be a lot easier than we thought so it will be $1200. That was a lot cheeper than we thought. They estimated it was going to take 4 hours and it only took 2 hours. The clean up was absolute immaculate. Everything was done perfectly. There was not a spec of asbestos anywhere. They did a really really good job.

Called to make an appointment for chimney sweep services and reached an appointment taker who scheduled the service and accommodated a request for them to use a key to get into the home. The man showed up within the time period they said they would, did the work, left the house clean, and then left the key in the proper place where he was asked.
