Was thorough and professional but we didn't need as much change as he suggested although they were great ideas. So for the price he was going to do a lot for it but we didn't go in that direction.

Overall, we are very pleased with the final results and the process. When we first interviewed potential contractors, Steve was the most helpful in terms of taking the time to understand what we were trying to accomplish and making suggestions to improve the plan and make cost-effective choices. During pricing, his proposal was sufficiently detailed for us to make informed choices. Construction began at the agreed upon time. During construction, when questions arose, Steve was very helpful with possible solutions and even if we decided to go a route different than his recommendation, he always kept the best interests of the project at heart. When questions or critiques of the work were brought up by us, they were handled quickly and appropriately. Requests for adjustments made during the project were always greeted with 'no problem' and there was no nickel-and-dimming in terms of changes made to the original plan. The project took a little longer than we originally planned, partly due to changes we made and partly due to waiting for materials to arrive. (make sure the windows are ordered early!) and partly due to running into August vacations. The finish cabinetry was very well done. The project was priced fairly and the work provided under KBS was a good value. Change orders were priced very fairly and there we no billing hassles. Steve's recommend electrician, Manuel Galindo, did good work at a good price. HVAC/plumbing was by RAL Mechanical. I am no expert at HVAC pricing, but that cost seemed high to me. However we were pleased with the work Russell and his team provided and he was also fair and reasonable about change orders. My only significant complaint on the whole project was the architect that Steve recommend, Sal Behar. I realize that architects get paid more than contractors, but I think the fees were unnecessarily high for the amount of work required. He did not design the spaces, I have a design background and had done most of that--he just checked code compliance and prepares documents for the city. In addition, most of the problems with the project--delayed window specs, poor coordination with the city about requirements for enclosure of the mechanical area, fill material where the old door to the garage was (2 of which were quite expensive)--were rooted in Sal's work. However, Steve did what could have been done to make those situations better and I only bring this up to make sure that a potential KBS client has a better experience either through a different Steve-recommendation or with their own architect.
Description of Work: We renovated approximately750 sf of the lower level of our home. From unfinished space, one non-legal-egress bedroom and one small bathroom, we now have 2 legal bedrooms, an office, a TV room, a largish bathroom and a hallway including a mud area. In addition to partition walls, ceilings, doors, trim, etc., the project included custom cabinetry in the office and the TV room, wall and floor tile work in the bathroom, laminate floors in the hall/mudroom and office. The foundation wall was cut into for a larger window opening and a new door to the garage. A I-beam supporting column was also moved. All the above was performed by Steve Kearney's team and the electrical and HVAC/plumbing were performed by other firms recommended by Steve. I have a design background and brought a fairly detailed plan to the table, which I modified based on some of Steve's recommendations and was then processed by an architect for the purposes of permitting with the City of Yonkers.

From the start KBS was very responsive and fair with their pricing. They started the job on schedule and finished ahead of schedule. They also dealt with local building department personnel to clarify the work being done. Their employees were very professional and easy to deal with. They were very accommodating to any requests I made.
Description of Work: I needed a garage to be replaced or repaired in place. They re-supported the existing structure and then cut away all water damaged supports. Then, dug and poured a new footing/foundation and rebuilt the garage on the new footings. They then installed all new exterior plywood walls and new vinyl siding, a new roof was installed over new sheeting. The finished product is of excellent quality and I will be using KBS again in the future

They just started the work today. They have excellent communication. They helped me with my permits and they spoke to the inspectors. I am very happy with them. They are very personable to deal with and very agreeable. So far everything is too good. The actual work has just begun today. Their price was better when compared to others. He is also very close to where I live. He is very easy to talk to and he also has a very good personality. He doesn't show off like other contractors. I would rate them high overall. I probably might continue to use them in the future.
Description of Work: Kearney Building Solutions is my contractor. Their estimate was about $13500 for remodeling my garage which was collapsing.

The experience overall was very positive, from the time Steve came to do the estimate until the day he and the crew finished (in time for us to move in, as planned).
Description of Work: Steve and his crew did a lot of work for us in a short time (about six weeks) and all the work was done professionally. We had bought a house that had already been remodeled (an addition) but needed a variety of things done before we moved in, including: repainting the entire house (4 bedroom home); tiling the kitchen back splash; repairing a step into and out of the laundry room; repairing a countertop in the laundry room; cleaning up and "waterproofing" the basement with dry lock paint; repairing a leak alongside one side of the home by installing a drainage trench; power washing the outside of the chimney and back patio (which were moldy); properly venting bathroom fans through the roof; properly insulating lighting fixtures in the ceilings; installing 1/4 round throughout the house; installing wainscoting in the powder room; installing surround sound system in the den; and resurfacing the living room fireplace (it was painted brick, but Steve brought in a stonemason and recreated a stone front that matched stone work outside of the house). Everything looks great and we have received many compliments. Steve and his crew are honest, hardworking and polite professionals. They do clean work (in both senses of the term--the work is clean and finished and they clean up after themselves). We highly recommend them!

They were very clear from the very beginning - price estimates, scheduling, speed of the work to be done. The entire operation took 8 weeks. Our house was originally built in 1910, and has some very distinctive style in the woodwork, and Kearney was able to recreate that throughout the addition (which in all was bigger than the original house). This builder is a perfectionist, and would often come up with better suggestions in the detail than the architect had provided - knowing how we would really use different areas of our home, rather than theoretically imagining how we might use our home. This work was not cheap - but the added value to our home, even in an economic downturn, remains very, very impressive.
Description of Work: We had to tear down the back of our house in order to put on an addition. Overall, we put in a completely new kitchen, dining room, three bedrooms, one recreation room, one full bathroom (plus separate toilet), all wood flooring, two entryways and porches and new roof. We also put in radiant (in-floor) heating and a 4-zone heating system.
