The drains in my old house with a lot of big trees in the front yard got clogged, so of course I thought the worst, imagining that the whole sewer line would have to be dug up. Never hire someone when you are panicked, because you do not have a chance to shop for price. Now I know that this service could have cost me a lot less at other reputable places. But that is not my complaint. As for the service itself, it was really fine. They were responsive, came quickly, called back, all that good stuff. Did not try to sell me more than I needed, dig up my whole yard, etc (it was only a problem with one toilet line.) Jay was a bit too happy to hold up a bag of stuff to "educate me" as to what was clogging the line (unflushable wipes) when a short explanation would have done just fine. That may have been rude, and I wonder if he would have done it with every client, but whatever. My real complaint is this: as I wrote the check, Jay handed me a review form...and then stood there, waiting for me to complete it and hand it back to him. When I refused, he said I would do it online (of course I could) but there was...oh, attitude. I thought that was obnoxious. Worse, I can imagine lots of people being intimidated enough to let him get away with it. Which I did not, though he then literally tried to grab it out of my hand (I had already written notes on it and had no intention of giving it to him.) This behavior totally skews the validity of any reviews his company might get, and so I advise that you not rely on these reviews alone in deciding whether to hire MAKO. I can't imagine that what he tried to do is Angie's List protocol.

Jay did excellent work. He explained every step and worked quickly and clean and definitely did quality work. His rates were very reasonable. I can't say enough good things about the experience and would definitely recommend hiring Mako for any job that you may need.

Jay came the day after I called, assessed the situation, explained everything to us and fixed our (edu) and cracked pipes. He also explained other things about the plumbing system that he do not have to.

Quick response, I called them early in the morning and they were here within an hour to an hour and a half. Very good service.

I called Mako Plumbing and Heating, Inc. on June 7th and left a message explaining the problem. I was contacted soon after my call (I do not remember the name of the person who returned the call), and I explained the problem in greater detail. Based on my description of the problem, I was informed that it could be a simple fix or could be more extensive. I was told that Jay would be at my house on June 8th between 8am-9am. Jay arrived on time, introduced himself, and put down a mat on which he wiped off his shoes before entering my home. He then asked me to show him the problem, which involved a leak from the upstairs bathroom to the downstairs bathroom. He then told me he would need to remove the toilet and trace the problem. Jay kept me informed of every step in the process (e.g., showed me the parts that were causing the problem) , discussed his findings, discussed alternatives, and the cost of each alternative. Once we settled on an action plan, he went to work. Unfortunately, the repair involved opening the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom; however, Jay kept the opening as minimally invasive as possible, and I appreciate that. He then proceeded to replace the pipe and reset the toilet. He also cleaned all the debris created by the repair. Both bathrooms were super clean when he finished. In fact he asked me for paper towels and cleanser, and he proceeded to clean the bathroom to remove all evidence that a repair was performed. He suggested that the ceiling repair be delayed until we knew for certain that the problem hen told me to wait to repair the ceiling until we knew for certain that there were no other problems. He also suggested that the opening be sprayed with a solution of water and bleach before repair in order to eliminate any possible mold issues. The removed sheetrock did not show any sign of mold (he showed me the sheetrock that he removed), but the solution should be sprayed as a precaution I was very impressed with Jay and the service provided. I will use this company in the future, if there should be additional plumbing problems.

Robert, the plumber/technician did the repair work and follow up. He was a pleasure to work with! After the work was complete, we still had a small problem. He came back several times in order to fix it...at no extra cost to us. Robert and Mako did everything they had to do to make it right. I very highly recommend them!

Jay arrived on time & repair to set up to cot out old broken pipe. He was very neat & cleaned everything often he was finished. They cut out an old waste pipe & replaced with 4" PVC after he finished he checked his work for lacks. Using make was a very pleasurable experience & would Deff use in the future.

Jay showed up & was very polite & professional. He explained in detail what needed to be done. He also gave a fair price for future work needed. He performed the job & showed me what he was fixing & keeping me informed overall. Mike & Jay were very professional & would use them in the future.

It was a freezing cold weekend in January of 2015 when my oil burner shut down. I waited several hours before the oil company arrived. They did what they could and were only able to get the oil burner running for a brief moment. After several attempts, they informed me that I had a frozen pipe inside the house somewhere and that I should call a plumber. I called Mako. I used their services previously and was very happy with their work. One of the owner's, Ted, and his helper arrived at the appointed time. Ted quickly assessed the situation and informed me that it was a frozen heating pipe and that this was not an easy fix. As per Ted's suggestion, my son went out to buy several space heaters to put around the house. While my son was at the store, Ted continued to try and find the problem area. Miraculously he found it, defrosted the pipe and got the heat working again. I am extremely grateful to Ted for his knowledge and persistence in regard to this matter. What made this situation curtail was that I was recently hospitalized for 14 days with double pneumonia and on supplemental oxygen. If I lost heat, I would not be able to leave my home. Thanks Mako

Hi all, I promised my update. I called the company back a couple of weeks after I spoke to them about my issue. The Receptionist informed me that that she was going to expedite the manner to the owner. Two days later I received a call from Rich, the owner of the company. It was Saturday morning which surprised me because most companies settle disputes during normal business hours so this I appreciated. I explained to Rich the situation. He understood and explained to me their pricing chart and how Capital Improvement projects are defined within his company. He proceeded to explain to me where those funds go and how he is going to work with me to refund the $150. In fact he said that he is going to expedite my refund by actually sending me a check from his personal account. I was very happy with this. When an owner takes time off during a busy schedule of taking his son to practice just to speak to a customer on a weekend - that is what I call excellent customer service. Although, I kept my price rating the same as it is my own personal opinion, I upgraded my overall experience to an A as I was quick do a rating while my emotions were high. Overall, I am satisfied. Thank you Rich for assisting me.

Arrived on time ( called on His way) explained the service , got a fair estimate, worked quickly and cleanly. Showed the finished job.

It went well. I made the call on a Sunday, and although there was no availability for that day, the office gave me frequent updates in the event that an opening occurred. The appointment was made for that week within an 8-10 a.m. window and the repair person arrived within that time window. At first, the repair person - who did not appear to be a regular Mako employee but probably contracted in times of high customer call periods - attempted a manual cleaning of the system, but when that didn't prove satisfactory, he then performed an electrical cleaning. It was noted by the repair person that the lines had never been cleaned prior ( the house is around 60 years old) so the additional attention paid to the work was appreciated. The system was tested prior to departure and no recurrence of the problem was evident at the time nor since. Mako remains my 1st choice for all plumbing needs.
