well, it went fine because i sent them away! SCAM AVOIDED!!!
Description of Work: I am so glad to see the other reports here! The tech just left my home...he was here for about 5 minutes before telling me that the clay inside my furnace chimney was rotting and that he could replace with a stainless sleeve, and cap all my chimneys for $17.50.00. What made me question this whole thing is that when I got the phone call to set the appointment, I asked if they were the company we previously used and they said yes, they were here last year and they wouldn't have my information if they hadn't worked for us before. As I am purchasing my home from my parents, I called them when he told me the chimney was rotting out and they told me no, NO ONE had cleaned the chimneys last year - or ever for that matter! So I asked for a written estimate, signed up at Angie's List, and here I am, calling a reputable sweep instead! ;)

Scam Alert! I should have known better when called about a chimney cleaning for $49 and the technician at the door in under an hour, but I let them come. Of course my chimney flue was fine ( he didn't have any desire to clean it) but my furnace flue needed to be replaced immediately - normally $3200 but today only $2900. We declined and said we would talk with the furnace company before deciding... quick exit -no charge.

It is horrible. I am in contact with them. The town plumbing inspector is involved, along with my oil company. I am trying to recoup the cost. I still have to have my furnace replaced and the correct size flues replaced. All they say to me is that if I want to file a claim with their insurance company to go ahead, and they have not been cooperative at all. I have found out that they have been doing this to a lot of people. I will be following this through till the end because you can't just be dropping in 30 feet of flue liner when someone don't need it. My house is 17 years old and there are 100 year old houses out there with chimneys that haven't fallen apart. I don't like they way they have been with me on the phone. I don't like that asked for a check or cash and cashed the check within an hour after they left the house. I understand that they service people in 4 different states and when you call the local number the person you are speaking to is actually in Long Island, New York. They said they would have a quality control person come over the next day to look at things, so I told them the hours that I wouldn't be home and the person came anyway. When I called to tell them they came when I said that I wouldn't be home, she said well he is down in New Jersey; I live in Massachusetts, we were in the middle of a snow storm, and suddenly this guy is in New Jersey?!
Description of Work: I hired them to come in and clean my chimney because I was putting my house on the market. They quoted me about $160 to clean the chimney, which was better than any company I had contacted. They weren't here 10 minutes, and they told me that the clay liner inside one side of my chimney was falling apart. They told me that I would need a stainless steel chimney flue liner, and it just so happened they had one in the inside of their truck. He gave me a handout about it and told me that I was putting my kids at risk, etc., etc., if I didn't take care of this right away. All of this happened on December 2nd, and I have found out since then that it attaches to an oil burner furnace; they put the wrong size in; they were supposed to pull a permit with the town in order to install it, which I knew nothing about; the flue is in 8 inch flue, and they put a 6 inch inside of it, so that caused the furnace to back-up on itself so I need a new furnace now that will cost $6000.
