Very neat and quick replacement, very professional

I trust him implicitly. He is excellent, a great worker, very detailed, and I highly recommend him.

We originally combined two rooms into one very large room. I wanted the extra room back, so we hired Andy's Carpentry to separate it back into two rooms by building a wall. He reconstructed a new wall and placed a door where the original one used to be. However, after he left I never heard back from him about any of the additional work that may have needed to be done. He also removed a few floor boards, that were never placed back. He also neglected to apply the stripping trim that is typical beneath doors that closes the gap between the flooring and the bottom of the door when closed, in order to prevent a draft.

The job itself went fine, However, I would never hire somebody on an hourly basis again. Andy ultimately charged us for 9 hours of work--for a 3' by 3' area. He made multiple trips to Home Depot when he could have made 1 trip if he organized himself better. He charges $70/hour and in my opinion, "milks" the time it takes to do the job to maximize his fee. If you hire him, demand a fixed price for the labor and an accurate materials estimate. I can only imagine what a big carpentry job would cost with this hourly fee structure!

I him through Angie’s List and my experience with him is going pretty well. He is reliable and got back to me right away. He told me what he was going to do and did it. He performed the job promptly and he is very professional.

Andy responded quickly to my email of 8/24/13 giving his hourly rate and what it included. At my request he sent a follow up email with a date (8/27) and time to come to my home to give an estimate on the work I wanted done. Andy was on time and after I showed him the job he explained everything in detail on what he would do. He was very thorough and never rushed to answer any questions I had. I did not hire him for this job, but I will keep his name and number handy for possible future work.

You have to show up right? OK so I call Andy Friday evening on the 2nd expecting to leave a message but he answers the phone instead. I explained to him that I had my air conditioning unit serviced the day before and that my dining room ceiling was now concave and leaking water. I don't know what the guy did to destroy my ceiling but now it had to be replaced. Andy asked me if it was dry-wall or plaster ceiling and I told him I don't know but the house was built n the '50s so I guessed it was dry-wall. He said "OK I'll stop by between 9 and 9:30 tomorrow morning." I was delighted! The following morning my mother in-law, who's spending the summer here from Florida to watch the kids because my wife and I both work, got up at 8:00 to fix them breakfast. By 8:30 they were both laying on the floor watching cartoons on the TV. They were no more than 15 feet from the front door. At 8:50 my wife woke me up to be ready for Andy to stop by. I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down on my stoop in the light rain because I live on a very busy street that you can't park on and I wanted to be able to get his attention if I saw him drive by. Because my street is so busy I described the location of my house to him and said there would be a black Cadillac in the drive way. I didn't tell him that as a courtesy to him I had parked my sedan around the block, as only two cars fit in my driveway. By 9:30 I had finished my coffee and was sufficiently wet enough so I went back inside. At 9:36 my phone rang and it was Andy saying "Hi Bob, this is Andy from Andy's carpentry. I'm sorry I missed you!" I said what? He said "I'm sorry I missed you!" I said "Andy I'm here, what house did you go to?" He then said my address and described my house telling me "I even saw the black Cadillac Eldorado in the driveway!" I told him I was sitting on the stoop no later than five after nine till nine-thirty and that he said he would be there between 9 and 9:30. Then he said to me "I was, I rang the doorbell and knocked on the door." I told him that wasn't possible and then he told me he was there well before nine. I told him again that he said he would be there between 9 and 9:30 so he said "I was there well before but I stayed there until ten after!" Without giving me the time to tell him he must be mistaken he said look I know what type of house it is, its a small cape so I can give you the estimate over the phone, do you want me to give you the estimate?" Naturally, not wanting a dishonest stranger in my home I told him "No." He said "OK, good bye." and hung up. I wondered why he didn't call me while he was at my house but I guess he forgot his cell phone, right Andy? NOW PEOPLE READ WHAT I HAVE LEARNED: If you'll notice on the left side of Andy's page and look where the phone # is supposed to be you'll see "(000) 000 0000." Do you wonder why that is? I think it may be because Andy knows that people are inherently good. He knows that a person is likely to say "I got a referral from Angie's list and they don't have your phone #! I had to look it up in the book." Then he gives some baloney line about how he's been telling them about it but they never get around to fixing it. It's even possible that it's a tactic instigated by Angie's list themselves. So do you see what he just did? He used your kindness to find out whether you know about him through Angie's list or not. Look at the coupon on top, this serves the same purpose. It's the only purpose it serves if you think about it. So you say 'Well that's good isn't it? If he knows I was referred to him by Angie's list then he'll do a good job, right?' Well, my perspective is the man's a liar, and if he knows you're from Angie's list then he'll just have to be a little slicker that's all. That "I'm sorry I missed you" lie might have been worded differently. I might have heard a more sophisticated lie. He might have even told me the truth for all I know. All I do know is that he didn't tell me the truth. So how did he know what my house looked like? Well he could've been in a hurry, or late, or just didn't care and just drove past it. Or he could be even more sleazy and looked up my address on Google earth and he would not have only seen my house and my "white fence" but he would have also seen my wife's car in the driveway. Either way he DID NOT knock on my door NOR did he ring the doorbell. There is not a room in my house, from the basement to the attic where you will not hear my doorbell ring. It is LOUD! Not only is it loud but it's just outside my bedroom! My mother in-law, my wife, myself and my children heard nothing because he did not knock on the door or ring my doorbell. Honestly Andy, if you did come to my house you would have called me on the phone, not when you woke up in the morning. I cant help wonder if any of the houses he set foot in were subsequently burglarized. Bet you wish you knew I was from Angie's list now don't you Andy? I wouldn't let a dishonest man in my house and neither should you people. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

We contacted Andy's Carpentry on June 24th. He replied right away and was very courteous and prompt with all communication. Andy came for an initial walk-through ( June 25th) so that we could show and explain what and where we needed work done. He was very clear and upfront about his work experience, ability, pricing and scheduling. He clearly communicated his ideas, his availability and he worked to provide us with a comprehensive estimate for all work items. Work was scheduled within a very reasonable and favorable timetable. When you engage the services of Andy?s Carpentry, you get Andy for the job.! He knows his craft. Work progressed well due to his obvious expertise and attention to detail. He was always punctual and we knew every day what items were on that day?s work schedule and at the end of every day he relayed current work completed versus target figures. Andy doesn?t take short-cuts and his work was top quality, impeccable. He is extremely neat in his work and his work space was always maintained with each work area receiving its requisite timely clean-up. Overall, our experience with Andy?s Carpentry was very positive. Andy made us his priority for the time engaged. His work was top notch and he always conducted himself in a professional manner. Andy has a very high work ethic and to each aspect of our project he gave superior attention to detail. He offered his experience and dedicated commitment. We felt at each instance that he was looking out for our best interests. Andy is very personable. He is quite industrious. He gave us excellent advice, listened attentively, and always answered our questions. He was responsive, straight-forward, competent and friendly. We were very pleased with his professionalism and the quality of work he performed. We are quite happy with the end results and would not hesitate to engage his services again. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend Andy's Carpentry to others looking for carpentry and handyman services.

It went very well. He and his assistant did an excellent job. Andy first came to my house, gave me an estimate, let me and my wife select a storm door from his catalogue, ordered the door from the company and then came back to my house several weeks later and installed the door. He gave me a very reasonable price and he cleaned up everything when he was finished with the installation. I will not hesitate to hire Andy again if a situation arises that requires his type of services.

Andy did a great job in repairing the drywall and replacing the tiles. You cannot tell that there was ever a gap between the stairs and drywall. He does great work at a reasonable price and is very quick to respond to your emails. He is very neat and cleans up after himself so not to leave a mess behind when he is finish.

I tried to contact him for three days running and received a message that his mailbox was full. That is no way to run a business.

Andy is a very nice guy and you can tell he knows his stuff, but he charges by the hour, not a flat rate for a job, and he couldn't give us a good estimate of how long the job would take. And because he was working on other jobs, our job would be done piecemeal whenever he had time to stop by. We really needed to know exactly how much the job would cost, and that it would be finished in a certain time period.

I would like to say that Andy responded to my e-mail very quickly and was very professional. He offered a suggestion on my problem, but I handled it differently. I was very satisfied with his response. I would recommend him.

Andy was prompt, professional, polite, and very informative. If timing had worked out, I would have selected him. I will definitely call him again if I need any more work done.

He was timely, efficient and neat. He was very personable and he did an excellent job of exactly what we asked him to do.

No work was done, but I am sure I would have been happy with it.

I left Andy a message on his answering machine and sent him email as well. He called me back the next day. One the first phone call he was upfront about his availability (it would be a couple of weeks, but we were in no hurry) and his rates. He came by on a Sunday (after he'd returned from Mass, he said) and had a look at the job. He also said he'd come by a couple of days before he began the work to look over the installation instructions. He said he didn't want to waste time reading instructions after he started working on my house. We really appreciate this, considering he bills for actual time spent in my house. The bath door replacement went exactly as planned. The medicine cabinets and bath light fixtures, which he initially estimated would take 4-6 hours ended up costing us more than 22 hours! The old medicine cabinet was a nightmare to remove. The old light fixtures were actually electrically unsafe. Overall, we ended up paying much more than our initial estimate, but still worth every single penny. Andy's work is impeccable. He never takes shortcuts, dots every "i" and crosses every "t". We are very pleased with the end result (our bathroom looks like it's been updated) and we would use his services again.

Quality of work was very good, price was decent, excellent ideas were given to prevent repairs from costing more. However there was a three month gap between "job estimate" day and "work done" day.

My overall experience with Andy was great!! I live in a Co-op and people are finding it very difficult to have workers come in to perform jobs because the management of the place makes it kind of difficult. One requirement that is needed is insurance. Andy was able to provide the necessary insurance paperwork to management right away so he would be able to perform the work. Andy came and gave me an estimated number of hours that would be needed to perform the job, he went over a little bit but the work that was performed was top quality. We met at Home Depot the Saturday before he started and he pointed out some of the shoe molding that would be appropiate for my place. He found me two small pieces to take home and decide which size I wanted to go with. I went home and decided and then e-mailed him with the one I chose. The day he started working he went to Home Depot and picked up the necessary supplies for the various work, that needed to be done, molding, nails, spackle, etc. First he had to repair a hole in the ceiling in my front closet. There were cable wires hanging out of it and an electrical outlet that was in the way. He did a great job repairing this hole, which was located in a tricky spot. I had previously had high-hat lightings installed by someone else. That person removed an old light fixture and left a hole in my ceiling with wires for that old fixture. Instead of putting a plate over it and painting it I wanted a carbon monoxide detector put over it. Andy cut and then glued a round piece of metal to cover the hole. After that was properly secure he was able to mount the dedector to the metal plate. Now my ceiling looks normal with no extra hole!! I previously had baseboard molding installed when my hard wood floors were done, by another Angie's list member. I decided I wanted to have shoe molding put down. Andy cut and installed the shoe molding in my living room, dining room, and down my hall. He cut it right in my apartment and kept the dust to a minimum. Andy changed all my outlets and switches from black to white.
