I felt the price was way out of line, perhaps because they really didn't want to do the work. Also, the idea that they might do the work in 2017, but might wait until 2018, seemed far too vague. I got another contractor.
Description of Work: This contractor replied reasonably promptly to a phone inquiry, and provided an estimate about a week later. But the estimate was over twice what two other contractors would have charged. They stated they were busy and could not promise to paint our house earlier than 2018 (we contacted them in July 2017). I notice that others feel Duthie did a good job on their house, so they may be worth considering, if you have other estimates for the work, and if you can get a firm commitment that they will do the work promptly.

It went very well. No problems! I was not actually here during the process but had no phone calls or complaints after. The neighbors, about 4 feet away, did not complain either. The neighbors came from a family of house painters.
Description of Work: Duthie Painters painted the Victorian cottage on the lake. They had to bring all equipment in by boat. They moved large items off the porch and cut bushes etc around the house. It was power-washed, and wasp nests removed, given a coat of primer and 2 coats of paint, all in 3 days! It was a fabulous job, and the house still looks great, 2 years later!!

They were going to get the work done for us and month after month went by and it didn't get done. Although we had some not great weather for painting outside, but they were very non responsive in keeping us informed and that's the part that bothered me. Every single time I called them, they said that they will know next week and we will give me a call and then they wouldn't call. I had to call them every single time to try to even find out if we were in their radar.

The crew was very nice and they did a good job; however, they didn't get around to doing the work until eight months after the originally schedule date.
Description of Work: I contracted the company to paint the exterior of my house.

Description of Work: Duthie Painting did a wonderful job. Because the owner was very busy, I organized the painting job. The estimator appeared exactly as expected. She came down to the cottage which was hard to reach, looked at the problems and was able to propose solutions. For example, there are 50 stair steps from the parking lot to the house and there is a dock. She said that they could not bring the pressure washer in down the steps. When I suggested the owner could bring the pressure washer in by boat, she said one of their people probably could bring the pressure washer in by boat. They never bothered the owner and the prep work was done without any fuss. The final paint job was fabulous and the owners are very very happy!

I called for an estimate, and she was here within a week, and received the estimate within a week. I put off signing the contract until July 31, and was told that they had approximately 4 weeks of exterior painting scheduled before me. The weather was humid and rainy all through August. I called early September and was told 2.5 weeks of exterior painting ahead of me. I called early Oct, and was told about 1 week,(still bad weather, either cold or rain). In late October, maybe next week. The following Mon. 2 painters showed up to ask about colors. The next day they were there with the pressure washer, and working by 8:30 a.m. In actuality they had to put a second coat of paint on all the main surfaces. Except for an outside extension cord for the pressure washer, they brought all their own equipment. Two or three men showed up at a time, depending on how much work needed to be done, and the weather predictions. In the early morning they waited for the temperature to rise before they started painting, which often meant they were painting in the sunshine, and the western walls were completed last. They removed and replaced 2 wood piles (complete with concrete block edges). They moved the compost container. They cut down a couple of upstart trees, growing against the garage. They removed and replaced the structure holding the canoe. When I asked about the shed roof (which I had assumed was considered part of the shed, but found out it was a metal roof that needed special paint), that roof was complete within 24 hours. They arranged for the disposal of all the trees at no cost to me. They were friendly, professional, respectful and kept me informed of their plans for the next day. My only complaint was that they never initiated contact to give me updates on the expected start day. My friends and children were sure they were taking advantage of me and putting others before me. But if I counted the good weather days, I figured the estimates of time were very accurate. When the final bill came, it cost 10%less than the estimate because they had anticipated most of the problem areas. They did find one thing that had not been counted on and that was a rotten window frame on the lake side which had to be replaced. They told me to find my own window installer and when he was finished, they would come back to put finishing touches to the paint job, if necessary. In the beginning I was shocked at the price, but upon inquiry found that it was within normal range for professional painters. Afterward, I felt that I had gotten more than my money's worth.
Description of Work: estimate, contract, wait for weather, painting, final bill came 10 days after finishing. pressure washing of house, garage, shed, and dock, and outside unpainted stairs; scraping off old paint; removing 2 trees which abutted the house; a coat of primer; a coat of paint on surface of house, garage, and shed; two coats of paint on trim, including the metal structure that held up the patio roof, sealing the unpainted wood surfaces of the dock and stairs.
