I requested a quote from Reliant for a gas conversion for my home heating. He quoted me a price and I gave a deposit. Everything seemed to go well until they started the installation and began replacing all my copper piping with PEX. Everything in the house until that point was all copper, then they started replacing my copper piping with PEX which we never discussed, but was obviously done to put more money in his pocket. Some of the PEX was non-oxygen barrier and had I not been there during the installation, it would've been installed. Luckily I noticed and he replaced the incorrect piping. There are still pieces in the ceiling that I cannot confirm are actually oxygen barrier, but he insisted it was. When it was time to pay, he told me that his price included me giving him the rebates from the gas company which didn't make sense as the gas company specifically said that the rebates were to go to the customer and not the contractor. I ended up giving him the rebate, because otherwise he wanted the additional money. He also purchased the cheapest indirect water heater he could find. It is a no-name brand with very poor build quality and ended up failing and springing a leak. He probably paid around $500 for it, instead of $1000 which the main brands cost and come with a lifetime warranty. This POS unit had a 1 year warranty, so I ended up replacing it with a $1000 lifetime unit on my own dime. All in all, he did what he said, was on time, and did come back when the furnace had failed due to a manufacturer defect and replaced the appropriate parts. However, I was not happy that I now have all this PEX piping which is not as good as the copper I had before, installed a no-name indirect water heater (that failed outside of his and manufacturer's warranty), and that he took the rebates that were supposed to go to me.
