Doug is very professional. He is also very dependable. He pays a great attention to detail and does quality work. I would highly recommend him. We will definitely be using Doug again for any future remodeling needs.
Contractor was punctual, very accommodating to any changes I made. Cleaned up work areas of tools and materials at the end of each day. The workmanship was excellent, superb, the best! Bathrooms were gutted and the work, which included tile work was perfect. This contractor was easy to work with and stayed on the job until it was finished. I would highly recommend Artisan Renovations and if I could, give an A++++ or higher.

In April 2016, I signed a contract with Artisan Renovations to build a deck for my new home. The project was completed on June 7, 2016. The reason I came here and wrote review comments one year later is that I hope I could write a more objective review comments some time after the project was completed. Before I made up my mind, I did lots of research trying to find a good contractor to build my deck (my home was built and purchased in September 2013 without a deck). Finally I choose Artisan Renovations based on the good ratings in Angieslist. The project was to build a 266 square foot deck (19ft by 14ft) with pressure treated boards and white vinyl rail. The total cost for this project is $6799.06 (original price is $6719.06. But after the contract was signed, I requested some change - upgrade to hidden screw deck board installation, which costs extra $80). I paid a down payment 40% before the project started and paid the rest after the project was completed. Artisan Renovations provided one-year warranty for materials and installation. I would like to summarize my review comments as follows. Pros: 1) Doug Marquart, the owner of Artisan Renovations, is an easygoing guy. Overall it is a pleasure to work with him. 2) Unlike other contractors, Doug did the entire project by himself. Only a few times, his son helped him, for example unloading and moving deck boards from truck to my back yard. 3) Most of the time his response to my email or phone message was quick. Cons: 1) After the deck building was done, I noticed that some deck boards had some grooves/cracks. I requested Doug to replace some deck boards with major grooves/cracks. He agreed and replaced some of them, but most of them still had noticeable grooves/cracks. I am not sure if this is common or not for a new deck. Maybe I am too picky. 2) Hidden screws were not really hidden. Most of them were visible. So I guess Doug may not have sufficient experience and skills in building a deck with hidden screws. This issue will be addressed again in the comments below. 3) About one week after the deck was completed, some green mildew was growing on some deck boards after a rain storm. I sent a email message to Doug and asked him if he could replace those boards. Several days later, he came and replaced some of them. 4) Three months later, many big cracks were observed in areas where the hidden screws were located. I asked Doug if he could fix those issues and he agreed. But what he did was a little disappointing. He "fixed" those issues just poking visible nails into the cracked deck boards from top surface. The beauty of the hidden deck boards were totally lost. 5) In order to build the deck, Doug adjusted and re-installed some sidings of my house. Last December, some sidings at deck-to-wall joints were loose after a snow storm. I was worrying that water may get into my wall and foundation and causes my house structure rot. I sent an email message to Doug and asked him if he could fix this issue and he responded with "yes". But several months passed, he did not show up. Doug is a very nice guy. Personally I enjoyed working with him very much. But objectively speaking, I think his work and service still do not reach to a "A" level yet (maybe I am too picky) considering so many issues/concerns occurred during and after the deck building project. I hope he can continue improving so his service can benefit other customers.

[Member Name Removed], I apologize for your disappointment. Let me explain as I did before and touch on what I have learned about the hidden fasteners. Pressure treated wood is soaked through with preservative chemicals, filling the wood with moisture. As the boards dry out they will shrink. Unfortunately, come to find out, the hidden screws do not handle that issue very well. The boards shrunk and at the ends did not have the strength to hold up and cracked. I did however replace over 2/3 of your deck boards and at the time there were no visible issues left. At the butt ends I had to install deck screws through the face to avoid having a repeat issue. This was a new hidden fastener system from "Camo" which I am disappointed with as well and do not offer to use this system any longer. As far as your siding goes you are at no risk of leaking or rot as I have flashed up the wall behind the siding to avoid such a problem. I will stop by to make sure that piece of siding is sitting correctly in the channel soon. Again, I apologize for your disappointment and will do what I can to remedy the situation.

Doug did a beautiful job. He fit me into his busy schedule so as to complete the project before our rehearsal dinner where we were entertaining 30 people at our home. I was worried when it was finished that the grounds around the deck would be a mess but it was spotless. I would highly recommend Doug for any project. We plan to hire him again for interior work.
Description of Work: Doug built a deck with wrap around stairs off the back of our house. This included removing existing stone platform and stairs. Doug provided drawings to the town to get the building permit and worked with the building code officer when we ran into a glitch. I never had to worry about a thing.

Doug did a wonderful job and maintained his professionalism under difficult conditions dealing with completely unrelated hoopla with the City of Syracuse zoning department. I am very happy with the final job. He does all the work on his own and you will need to be patient and flexible when having a definite start time. However, any wait is worth it. I would recommend Artisan Renovations to any one! Thanks Doug.

Doug was phenomenal to work with. Our house has some quirks and he found a way to modify his design and plans to work around any obstacles that popped up. The deck has exceeded all of our expectations. We will go here first for our future remodeling needs due to the excellence in service.

Doug was fantastic - punctual, professional and the work was very high quality. The bathroom that he remodeled was our least favorite room in the house - now it is our favorite.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled an outdated master bathroom - installed new tile floor, new shower tile, installed double vanity and new cabinets.
all basement furniture, including Pool table, and ceramic stove were removed from work area. The suspended ceiling was installed and the cement floor was painted with epoxy paint. Entire basement baseboard with quarter round was installed and painted to match existing paneling. Six basement posts were trimmed out with Fiberglass kits, and finally all furniture was returned to basement area (pool table, ceramic gas stove bar stools couch and chairs). The work area was extremely clean when all work was completed.
Description of Work: Provider installed aprox 2000 sq ft of suspended ceiling , painted cement floor, installed baseboard trim, installed basement post fiberglass jackets

We had Doug remodel a small bathroom and our kitchen. He did a fantastic job and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. He is extremely professional and has a great work ethic. He arrived at our house every day by 8:30am and was usually still here when I got home from work at 5pm. He has great attention to detail and makes sure that everything is exactly the way you want it He also was very quick to let me know if there was something that was going to change the cost of the job. I would hire him again in a heart beat.

I had Doug of Artisan Renovations remodel a small bathroom and my kitchen. Doug did a fantastic job with both projects. His work ethic is fantastic. Every day he was here right at 8:30 and most days he was still working when I came home from work at 5:00pm. He does almost all of the work himself and obviously takes pride in his work. He brought any potential increases in price from the original contract to my attention immediately, and the final bill lined up exactly as I thought it would. The bathroom project was completed in under 1 week and the kitchen in 6 weeks with the only delay being the countertop-which is out of his control. These two jobs went much more smoothly than the 2 other remodel jobs that I have had done on this house. I would hire Doug again in a heartbeat.

From the start Doug (the owner of Artisan renovations) was very punctual and professional. He responded quickly to my request for an estimate and came by to do it the same day. During our estimate he listened closely to what we wanted in a new deck and after taking measurements he input all the information on an iPad and was immediately able to show me itemized estimates for our desired deck using pressure treated decking as well as composite, and with and without demolition of our old deck (which I was considering doing myself). Once the project began it progressed very quickly. Aside from demolition, Doug did all the work by himself, and we, as well as my neighbors were amazed at how quickly and efficiently things came together. The whole project took a little over a week, including delays due to inspector tardiness and bad weather. All said and done we were charged exactly what was estimated for a beautiful new deck which we have enjoyed all summer long. Doug himself is very personable as well as professional, and he took the time to address any questions and concerns that we had throughout the project. We very highly recommend Artisan renovations for your deck-building needs. You will not be disappointed!

We could not have been more pleased with the outcome of this remodel. If you want someone who is incredibly creative, responsive and responsible, and pays attention to detail, look no further! We kept the same basic layout and original ceramic tile floor for our contemporary remodel of the original contemporary, but dated kitchen. New Brookhaven cabinets, stainless ovens, refrigerator and dishwasher. Ran a gas line for the formerly electric cooktop. Ripped out the ceiling to put recessed LED lighting where there had been no lighting before. Worked with Modern kitchens for the cabinets, and Busch Products for the Cambria quartz counters.

It took Doug a while to get around to me, as the job was a relatively small one and he is very busy. I really appreciate the fact that he agreed to do the job. The job was done very professionally. He even put my address number on the mailbox, which I did not see until after he had left. Doug was very pleasant, and I would use him in a heartbeat for any job in the future.

Doug did an amazing job with all aspects of the project. He is an absolute professional in every way. I couldn't be happier with the results and I am getting a ton of compliments. There is definitely an awesome Wow!!! factor with what he has done. I'm still blown away by how great everything looks. This was the first big project I've had at the house. I'd been apprehensive about choosing a contractor but from the moment you meet him you know you're going to be in good hands. He was great at answering all my questions and in helping me through the design phases of the deck and front steps.

Doug, the owner of Artisan Renovations is a one man show. He put on a 16x20 DuraLife Composite deck on the back of our home. He was always on time, easy to work with, and a super hard worker. I never saw him take a break in all the time he was here. He is professional, courteous and easy to get ahold of. I was a little skeptical at times about the outcome, but Doug kept reassuring me that by the time he was done I would be a "believer." The deck looks very nice and its super sturdy (which makes my husband happy). I would definitely hire Doug again to do other projects for us. You couldn't ask for more. Thanks again Doug!

We cannot say enough good things about this experience. Right from the start Doug and his crew were punctual, professional, trustworthy, courteous, and friendly. The Grade B for cost is due to the cost of the material, Duralife by Certain Teed (which we chose). It was very pricey but we chose it for it's durability, high quality and it looks like real wood! We know we will have no maintenance to perform and it will last much longer than a traditional pressure treated deck. Our deck turned out beautiful and we could not be happier with the entire process. The level of professionalism, expertise, craftsmanship and attention to detail exceeded our expectation. . It's very hard to find a contractor you can trust but in our case we have found one and we would recommend this company to anyone. We will definitely be calling on Artisan Renovations for future projects. Thank you to everyone involved for a beautiful deck and stress free experience!!!

They gutted my bathroom and got rid of all the materials they took out. They made sure to put up plastic as to not get dust in the rest of my house. They tiled the floor and put in the tub/shower, sink with granite countertop, toilet, window, and cabinets. They suggested ways to make my small bathroom look bigger and give me more space. They put trim around the floor and around the window. When they were done, they painted the whole room with the paint I picked out. They made sure to clean everything up when they were done. I was very happy with the time it took and the end result. I absolutely love my new bathroom!
Description of Work: Artisan Renovations gutted and remodeled my whole bathroom. They fixed a pluming problem that they found. I shopped for all the materials I wanted in the bathroom including a granite countertop. They installed everything and even cut down a cabinet so it would fit in my bathroom. They also installed a vent which I did not previously have.

I check around and got a few estimates for the job. I did not feel comfortable with most of them. Doug was very knowledgble and friendly. He had an answer for all of my questions. He was honest. He came in and did the work and was neat and orderly. Even though I spent more money than I wanted too. I was pleased with the work.
Description of Work: I had my smaller bathroom redone. Doug and his one man crew were very curteous, punctual and did a great job. My only problem was the cost. It was my understanding that the labor cost should be about the same as the material cost., and there was quite a difference in the two. However, I was very please with his work

Thank you for the complimentary review. It is greatly appreciated. I feel bad that you feel overcharged for my services. I assure you I do all my estimating following national building standards. Also in looking back I spent 47% of the bill on materials so in this case you were pretty close in the 50/50 ratio for labor/materials. I hope this helps! Thank you again for your business and wonderful review. I look forward to working with you again in the future!
