The initial work request was to air seal and fully insulate the two cantilevers in front of my home to prevent cold air drafts from appearing in the bedrooms and kitchen on the second floor. The job was not done to my satisfaction as I still have air drafts coming in the house. Andy Gans from Ulster Construction came back to my home and assured me that he would find the source of the air drafts. He said he would fully check and inspect the cantilever since he was not at my home when the work was done. He failed to do this and then charged me $200.00 dollars for drilling a small meaningless hole in the cantilever plywood. He poked around inside the hole and insisted that the job was done completely. During this same follow up visit, Andy was grossly un-prepared. He first insisted that he use my ladder and then I had to hold the ladder for him while he was working with hazardous power tools above my head on the cantilever. An accidental drop of his power drill and equipment would have either killed or seriously injured me. He then said it was right because he "trusted" his colleague Mike Kortz who performed the work. But Mike was unable to furnish any evidence of his own as to the completion of the job. Mike Kortz did not even show up for the follow-up appointment to explain his work and his decision not to caulk and air seal the area around the floor beams. Andy Gans behaved very unprofessionally. My wife asked Andy if he could come back to the house when he was better able to perform the inspection we needed. He said no. He said he would not do a complete inspection. It was clearly visible to me that the floor beam had air leaks. There was a huge opening beneath the beam going into the kitchen subfloor which Andy and I caulked. In fact, I provided my own 5/8-inch poly foam to fill the gap. At one point, Andy told me he did not want to do any work at all. He said he wanted me to do everything. He later said that he cannot do this type of work anymore. I dont mind helping contractors by providing a ladder or water, coffee etc. I understand it is difficult working in cold weather conditions. But it is completely unprofessional of any contractor to put me through the grief and frustration that Andy Gans put us through and to then take our hard-earned money for no results. He made me do most of the work, using my resources, and he still failed to do the inspection. He also put me in a dangerous situation. I did agree to help Andy Gans because I am desperate for a solution and I am trying anything to reduce the cold drafts of air coming into my 5-year old son's bedroom so that he does not get sick again. I was trying to a get to a solution which could not be achieved. Andy Gans made it impossible for me to solve this issue as he left with $200 dollars of my money that could have been put towards a more professional and competent contractor. It is my hope that other innocent home owners do not get victimized by the incompetence displayed by Ulster Construction.
Description of Work: Andy Gans showed up on time at the house to do a follow up on the work done by his subcontractor. He drilled a small hole in cantilever and poked around inside to try and verify that insulation was present. This check was inadequate. He refused to do an adequate examination of the cantilevers which are leaking cold air into upstairs bedrooms and kitchen.
