extremely well they appeared when they were scheduled to appear. Installed the system quickly and efficiently and they finished when they. would finish everything has gone well ever since I've recommended them many times over the last 20 years, And have never heard a complaint about them I find them to be honest and good at what they do and I plan recommend them again in the future

This company has phenomenal customer service. They are a mom and pop operation which is so rare in today's age. De Witt explained every step of my process of converting to a heat pump and away from fossil fuels. Patty helps with all office work, and really cares about the customer. The level of care and communication is above any other company.

If there was a 0 as a rating option, that is what I would give this company. They are unprofessional, rude, and expensive. Dewitt installed a ductless system at our house two years ago and we are still dealing with a unit that does not respond to the thermostat. We tried to get him to come back out and fix it but he has refused, after yelling at us. We found after he installed the unit that the thermostat was left on top of the dresser with the wire coming down from the ceiling. After calling him to find out if he was finished, we had to pay again for him to come fix it. If you want headaches and to pay top dollar for them, then this is the company to select for any heating and air conditioning.

I called and spoke with the owner Dewitt Archibald about an ongoing problem i have been having with my carrier heating and cooling system due to an inept installer other than archibald. He was helpful over the phone and agreed to come by with a tech and a carrier rep to see what the problem was. He explained to me that he had to fix a lot of my other installers mistakes at other homes and he assured me he could find the problem. He showed up as promised with a rep from carrier and a service tech he agreed to charge me 99.00 per hour and that it would take no longer than 3 hours. Aslo he said he had to charge me 79.00 to pull out of the garage. I agreed to the price hoping he would find the problem. After looking things over he and the carrier rep concluded that the installer screwed up the duct work and the installation. He said he would have to run a duct blaster test and blower door test even though I just had a blower door test done 2 weeks prior from NYSERDA dealer. He stated that the ducts are leaking and causing my problem as well as not having the correct A/C compressor. I said well if the we know the ducts are leaking why can't we just seal them why bother running the ductblaster test if we already know they are leaking. He said he follows a system and this is how he does thngs blower door, ductblaster, sealing and see waht else is going on. i asked the price he said $500.00. I said give me a few hours to think about it. He stayed 2.5 hours and charged me for 3 hours plus 79.00 and also told me if i use a credit card he will charge me 4.5% more. (company policy) I paid by check. I called him 2 hours later and asked him about his process at this point he got a little annoyed with my question, but I agreed to have him follow his process and do the job b/c i really need this fixed. He showed up on time as promised and started to set up his equipment I told him about all the other work I needed done in regards to new installation and ductwork for the basement I am finishing I said if the price is affordable to me I will have you do all the work the repair and the new installation (I know it is a big job). He got visibly upset and said I can't work for you "you mentioned price" he went on to state that he is a creator and designer and the price is the price and he doesn't work by price. what ever the price is it is..He said price got you this job and see what you have? He then went on to insult my profression by saying "in your work you deal with price I don't work like that" "your a price person cause that's what you do I can't work like that i design systems and people pay whatever it is" "I can't work with people in your job you worry about price I can't do this I need to keep my sanity and my mental health" At this point i noticed he was getting a little unstable especially when he raised his voice and said "see you people run over me" your not listening to me" "All you people run over me" he took a deep breath and than bowed to me and said good luck. I honestly do not know what happened to this guy.. So basically He would not give me a price and had a meltdown when I asked about price. Also the 2 tests he wanted to do were a waste of time since he already knew what the problem was and the blower test was just done. i must say this was a strange experience.

We had previously had Archibald perform routine maintenance on the boiler in our rental home because they are the area's official Carrier dealer. When the pressure-relief valve started leaking, I called them for the repairs. The actual problem turned out to be that the boiler's pressure expansion tank, an old steel model that predates the modern diaphragm-equipped models, had filled completely with water. However, that wasn't diagnosed by Archibald. Instead, over the course of two visits, they replaced at considerable expense the automatic fill valve, the manual fill valve, and the pressure-relief valve. After all of this work, I still had an intermittent leak, usually after a period of substantial demand for heat. After hitting the Internet, I found that this problem is usually caused by a waterlogged expansion tank. The Archibald tech drained the tank... but my research showed that he didn't know how to do it properly, and as a result didn't actually drain it so much as relieve the pressure somewhat. Thus, the problem would go away for a little while, but come right back. Completely draining the tank with the proper procedure -- including opening the air bleed valve to actually let air into the tank and allow all the water to drain -- solved the problem permanently. Everything Archibald did (and charged me and my landlord for) was unnecessary. They also tried to charge me a surcharge for paying by credit card, which is not legal in New York State. (They refunded the charge when I pointed this out on the first bill, but tried to add it on again on the second bill.) Their fellow was a hard worker, and did a good job cleaning out the boiler in past years... but I can't recommend them as diagnosticians.

The moment that the oil furance was started the house smelled like grand central station. The installer stated that was because the system was new and the odor would go away. Then after it was still around when heating season started the claim was it was poor draft in the flue. (this same flue serviced the replaced oil furnance for 20 years without a problem). Then the oil burner started smoking, Archibald sent service repair men but the burner would not run for more than 24 hours before it stopped firing. Archibald then claimed that the problem was a bad oil tank and charged for the services since this wasn't their installation problem. I contacted Carrier to complain but all they offered was a list of other Carrier dealers and suggested that I seek a 2nd opinion. I called my oil dealer about the fumes and oil tank. Within 15 mins. Kosco had solved the fume problem, the Archibald installers had dislodged the cold air return in the basement, this was causing the fume problems. Kosco looked at the oil tank and stated they would be happy to replace it but that I would not be happy since in their opinion that was not the problem with the oil burner miss firing. They said it was probably not setup/adjusted correctly. Kosco serviced the oil burned and it has been working fine now going on three years and I still have the same oil tank. I did contact another Carrier dealer to look at the heat pump and he found the the suction pressure was low. This he beleived after talking to the Carrier tech representative was do to the coil not being set on top of the furance in accordance to Carriers installation instructions. When I informed Archibald of these the reaction was any thing but customer friendly. The owners could benefit from some mental heath services and customer service training. Archibald stated that they installed coils both the correct way and the incorrect way and it did not make any differance. I had contacted another Carrier dealer and therfore that absolved them from having to do any remedial work on the system that they sold and installed, but they would reset the coil for a fee.

It did not go well. I was very dissatisfied with the way I was treated and with the company's billing for travel time without informing me in advance. Most tradesmen I have dealt with have clocked in on the bill WHEN they arrive and clocked out when they have finished work and if they have a different policy concerning charging for travel time they have told me in advance. I would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: I called this company to check out a brand-new Carrier furnace (installed in December 2011) which had stopped running after a month and a half. The installer company did not answer my phone calls nor provide an alternate service number. Archibald was referred to me as a qualified servicer by the Carrier company itself. I called Archibald just after 5 PM on 2/2/2012 after my gas supplier had sent a team out to check the furnace and they declared that the furnace had a faulty blower, and said I should call the Carrier company. Archibald advertises that they provide 24/7 emergency service, so I chose their company over several others because it was now after 5 PM. When I spoke to their serviceman he told me that there was no point in coming until the AM because he couildn't order any parts until morning anyway. He said he'd be out first thing in the morning. I received a call at 7 AM on the next morning to confirm that the serviceman was about to come out. The dispatcher (a woman) told me that the new parts would be covered, but not the labor or the shipping of the part. I said I thought that was a pretty poor warranty, but she said that's the Carrier policy. I said OK. A few minutes later I got a cal from the serviceman himself who told me that he was coming out and he expected to be paid and the rate was $99 per hour. I told him that I felt that was an exorbitant price but that since all tradesmen seem to charge about that rate I would be prepared to pay him. He continued to insist that he wasn't coming unless I was going to pay him, at which time I told him that I always pay servicemen who work for me. I was becoming rather upset by what seemed to me rather poor customer relations and said so. He said it was only because I was a first-time customer. At this point I was thinking that if this is how they treat a first-time customer, they probably don't get a lot of repeats, but since it is cold and I have no heat and he was ready to come, I grit my teeth and told him to come ahead. After about an hour I went out to see how he was making out. He was conferring on the phone with someone about wiring within the furnace so I left. About a half hour later he asked to confer with me and informed me that it wasn't the furnace that was at fault, but my wiring system, and that I now needed an electrician. He then presented me with a bill for $320. I pointed out that as it was now just about 10 AM and he had arrived at 8:15, that @ $99/hour that worked out to $175, which I told him I was willing to pay. He informed me that he had to charge me for TRAVEL TIME as well. I have never had a tradesman charge me for TRAVEL TIME which I told him. He said that is Archibald's policy, OK, I said, I'll call your boss, which I did, and was told he was not available, altho he had been there earlier (I spoke with him concerning Carrier's warranty policy). The serviceman then stated that I was being charged not only for the time to travel TO my home, but also for the time to travel BACK TO THE SHOP. I was about to be charged an hour and a quarter of travel time, at $99/hour, without being informed of this unusual policy in advance. I would NOT have engaged this company had they so informed me. Furthermore, it does NOT take an hour and a quarter to make a round trip between New Paltz and Kingston unless I am also paying for the guy to stop for coffee and donuts. I gave him a check for $175, for which I received an diagnosis of my problem which may or may not be accurate.

Great Company-plan to use them for our new boiler in the spring
Description of Work: We were consuming way too much oil. We were looking for a way to save money on fossil fuel costs. Our Oil company was constantly jacking up the price. We went looking for an independent contractor, someone who was not making money on selling us oil. Archibald Heating sent out a consultant named Rich. He was prompt, on time for the first two appointments (he did call to say he was going to be late) for the third appointment. He measured the house, did a lot of calculations (i do not get all of it), sized our new heat pump. We decided since we are going to be in the house a long time, we would get the best one. ARE WE GLAD! It is quiet and so far very efficient. They said they would come back in a year and do some sort of study to look at the oil saved. We've only got one fill so far since the heat pump was installed. When the job was complete they gave us a form to fill out. We gave them five stars. Neat and clean, in and out, no disruption, except for the spackling around the grill they installed. No big deal. We plan to install their boiler in the spring. Good company and the installers were pleasant and tidy. Highly recommend!
