I had used them for a move to Ohio a few years ago and it went great. They were a little more expensive though so for this local move I had planned on using someone else. When this fell through I called them back and they were able to get us moved 2 days later. A few small items didn't seem to make the move (they came out of storage but we never found them at the house once we unpacked), but otherwise it went well. The crew was great - friendly, good natured, very hard workers. This makes two good experiences and now I know for next time I will just automatically plan to use them!

Where to begin. First of all, Dale Ballon, the estimator, was a schmoozer from the get go. He bid the job, for two days with a delivery date at my new residence after Labor Day, no specific date given. Crew and driver arrived on 26, August to pack and load for two days. Still no delivery date, and a minimal crew. This crew was overworked, and I bought them lunch each day, out of the goodness of my heart. Day two, the crew was smaller, in fact there were two guys who showed up, and walked off the job prior to start of work. Packing of my home, was abyssmal. Dale then came to my old residence with an arrival date, 29, August. The crew continued to pack until 900 pm on the 28th, twelve hours over the given two days that was allotted for packing and loading. Crew was overtired, overworked, and very stressed out. I, personally needed a day to clean the house, pack my car, say goodbyes, and get on the road. When I got to my new residence, the crew there was significantly better. They were efficient, I even gave my car to the driver (Keith), so he could have breakfast in my new town. Upon going through my boxes, I found numerous items missing. Some held sentimental value, and others were significantly expensive. I did take out insurance. I also had many irreplaceable items that were broken, attributed to careless packing and cushioning. I have contacted the manager, Steve at Good and Fair, and his reply was; "he would get back to me." It has been six weeks, and he has yet to return my numerous calls. A good friend of mine, wanted my recommendation for having her items moved to Arizona. I explicitly told her not to use this company, and elaborated what I went through. She went on to contact them, and met Dale. She mentioned about me using the company, and my experience. Dale replied, "there are good moves, and there are bad moves." Hardly professional, and she told him to leave her residence immediately prior to him admiring her furnishings. She did mention to him that why don't we call my friend (me), and he shuddered at the thought. Earlier this week, I received a phone call from the driver (Keith), saying he found one of my expensive items that were left on the truck. Six weeks later?? I then called Good and Fair insisting that the item be shipped via next day. Dale replied, "we can't, for fear, that the box could get a hole in it, and it would be damaged." Now, I have to wait for another truck to come to my area, and that could be another month. I have repeatedly told them that I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau in Western NY, and may take legal action. I understand that things can break, and/or be marred. However, how does one lose many things? The labor they hire is day help, it is my understanding that they are not professionally trained. Everyone on the labor crew complained outloud about low pay, lack of compassion from management, and plenty of animosity toward the company. To this day, I am not completely satisfied. This has been one of the worst moving experiences of my life. I had full trust in them, to be professional, and to take care of my personal effects.
Description of Work: Packed and shipped my household to a new residence out of state.

This moving company has a very polite office staff, but the good points stop there. The gentleman who came out to do the estimate was very nice and professional. When we went to sign the contract the young ladies at the front desk were also friendly and professional. Unfortunately the movers and the people behind the scenes are awful. We moved from Buffalo, NY to Abingdon, MD on July 31. We booked three weeks before the date of the move. On the day of the move my husband and I woke up early to make sure that everything was 100% ready. The movers were supposed to arrive to load our belongings between 8 and 10 AM. We received a call around 7:30 informing us that the truck broke down and they didn't know when they'd be able to pick up our stuff. Then my husband called and spoke to one guy and he said he'd try to come over and due an inventory to save time before the movers actually arrived. He came and told my husband he would go over the inventory list before he left. The guy did the inventory, didn't explain anything, and when I came home I looked at it and noticed some ridiculous comments. He had marked my grandmother's table as scratched and worn (which it wasn't) and he labeled our brand new leather ottoman/coffee table are worn and soiled! When my husband called the guy told him that it wasn't a big deal and that they have to do that. He told him if any of our things were damaged we would be reimbursed for them. WRONG! They held us to those descriptions! So once the company finally sent a truck and movers we were informed that it was not the truck that our things were going to end up on and that they were not the individuals driving our things. We were told when we signed the contract that the guys picking up would be the guys staying with out stuff until it came back to us. So our stuff was unloaded from the truck that picked it up and reloaded onto another truck. The guys who originally loaded our stuff were very gentle. The individuals who loaded it onto the second truck were not. When the truck arrived in Maryland it looked like a 10 year old packed it. There was no logic behind how it was placed on the truck. Boxes marked FRAGILE were placed under heavy boxes. Furniture was uncovered and scratched. Delivery was set to be in the AM between August 2nd and 4th. We got up early (again) and prepared for the arrival of our stuff. They called us around 7:30 again to inform us that the truck had broken down AGAIN the night before and that we would not be receiving our stuff. When my husband asked if there was anything that they could do about the price because of the delay he was told "Once your belongings have arrived you can make a claim with Bekins Corporate Offices. We at Good and Fair can't do anything like that." SUMMARY: The movers who came to our home(s) and receptionists were very polite and friendly. The management and the individuals who transferred our belongings from one truck to the other were completely inconsiderate. They just threw the stuff on there without any regard to the fact that people trust them to be careful and to take care of their household items. SEVERAL glass and ceramic items were smashed and broken(ALL wrapped in packing paper AND bubble wrap), my grandmother's end table now has a large scratch in it, and we will not see a penny for any of it. I would not recommend this company to anyone who owns anything valuable. They are disorganized and shady. They need to take some of the money they are making and invest it in trucks that will not break down and staff who care about their customers. They told us they only have 2 trucks that do out of town moves. Maybe they should invest in a few more trucks that won't fail. They also should not wait until the last day of the promised delivery date window to deliver. If they had planned it better and sent the truck down on the 2nd we still would have had our belongings on the 4th. This company is very disorganized and very shady.
Description of Work: Our belongings were picked up on July 30th around 3 PM (LATE-it was supposed to be between 8 and 10 AM). Our belongings were loaded on a truck- The guys did a good job and were very gentle. We felt comfortable. Our stuff was supposed to arrive in Maryland between August 2 and 4th. It was delivered on the 5th because "the truck broke down" AGAIN.
