It started off well, but he ended up being a crook. It's been a year and we still haven't been refunded. I'm sure the money is gone.
Description of Work: Phil Gizzi, the owner, began many projects for us. He ended up taking $8000 from us and 'running.' After he was in jail for 30 days we were able to get $4,000 but we are still out $4,000 in labor/materials and unfinished work.

Our home's roof was damaged due to a very violent wind & rain storm in late October 2008 which produced a major water leak along the chimney flashing and multiple rows of shingle tiles were ripped off during the storm. Mr. Gizzi was timely in responding the next day to view our roof since he was already working on several projects on the interior or our house. He temporarily repaired the flashing to stop the roof leak & quickly drew up the estimates for our insurance company & met with the insurance adjuster to show him the damage to the interior & exterior of the house & garage roofs, flashing & interior drywall damage. We agreed to give him our money to purchase the metal roofing & then that is where the trouble began. Mr. Gizzi claimed to purchase a "Michigan Steel Roof" in Coal Black color from a lumber company. The order was for custom lengths so he said it would take some time for it to come in, which we understood. After several weeks he claimed the roofing was delivered to the Plattsburgh Branch of the lumber company but the house roofing was damaged and the garage roofing was OK upon delivery to the lumber yard. He said that the roofing had to be sent back as a damage claim & have new roofing produced for our house. All during this time Mr. Gizzi was working on several interior projects of our house to an average standard, so we thought nothing of it. Mr. Gizzi gave us timely reports as to the steels progress in the manufacturing & shipping stages. Mr. Gizzi took the holidays off from working on our house since we had family visiting us from out of state. Mr. Gizzi said he would be back with the roofing that had been delivered undamaged this time to the lumber company right after the first of the year. We never saw Mr. Gizzi again after Christmas week. He did continue to respond to our phone calls, voicemails & e-mails in a somewhat timely manner. He had several excuses of why he could not make it to our house to install the roofing. First, his grandmother was gravely ill in New Jersey & he went to be by her bedside. Then she passed away & he had to stay for the arrangements, wake & funeral. After that, his kids became sick & he had to stay home to take care of them when they were not in school. Then he caught what his kids had & he was very sick. Finally, we talked to him for the last time via phone on 01/15/09 & he said the steel would finally be delivered by the lumber company in Burlington, VT & he would be there to help receive it the next day 01/16/09. He said he had a crew of 3-4 guys with himself & a rented lift that would then start putting the steel on the roof. Of course, we called all the Curtis Lumbers in NY / VT & there was no history of an order for steeling roofing being purchased by Phil Gizzi, NCBC or in our names. He basically took our money & ran. We have contacted the police & our lawyer & provided them our documentation. DO NOT HIRE PHIL GIZZI! HE HAS RUN OFF WITH OUR MONEY & AN UNFINISHED DAMAGED ROOF!!!
Description of Work: Mr. Phil Gizzi of North Country Building & Contracting, NCBC, was to install a brand new, custom length, 50 year warrantied, coal black, standing seam steel roof on our house & attached 2 car garage in the Fall of 2008. He was to repair & replace the flashing around our brick center chimney, as well as, dispose of and replace damaged insulaton in our attic and spray for future mold growth to the wet interior of the roof & attic space. Mr. Gizzi had previously worked on our house during the Fall of 2008 and installed 2200 sqare feet of hardwood floors in our home along with new baseboard & shoe molding, doorway trim, fireplace mantel trim, lighting, ceiling fans, a partial kitchen remodel & a new main staircase which was a poor job. Overall his previous interior work was of average quality, attention to detail, timeliness, cleanliness, and care for our house and family. His co-workers and helpers were below average in the above qualities. The $24,000 figure above for total money spent is the total of all the money we gave Mr. Gizzi from September 2008 to December 2009 for all of our finish & unfinished jobs & materials for our home. Since he was currently working on our house with all of his tools in our garage and we felt comfortable with his work and prices we had him take on the project of replacing our damaged roof. We put our trust and hard earned money in him and we were completely let down!
