Daniel and his team were great from the first call I made to them to when the job was finished. I chatted with a handful of flooring companies, and they explained the process more clearly to me than any of the others, and gave me a lot of confidence that I would get high-quality work. The job had a few challenges, which were handled very quickly and professionally. Highly recommended.

I'm opening a shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The original floors in the space were extremely damaged and needed a lot of repair. I talked to half a dozen flooring contractors and all of them tried to sell me a new floor. But I very much wanted to keep the character of the original floor, even with its imperfections. When Daniel came and looked at the floor he understood my vision and was excited to bring the old floor back. He was also extremely friendly and I very much wanted to hire him. I had my fingers crossed that his quote would be reasonable-- and thankfully it turned out to be extremely reasonable. So I hired him. His team was friendly, attentive and did a quality job. They pulled up some old flooring in an unused area of the shop and used it to patch up large areas of the floor that needed repair. This was painstaking work, but the floor turned out really well. I love it. Hire them!

Daniel from shalom flooring provided a quick check and estimate for the work I required and explained the entire process. I had a number of companies provide quotes and his was very competitive, based on the positive reviews on this site and his experience I went with shalom. Two guys showed up on the day to perform the job, after the first day I realized I wanted a bit of a darker shade and Daniel was able to accommodate that withoung any problems by tinting the second coat. Floors turned out great, they did an amazing job.

Daniel and his crew from Shalom Flooring refinished the wood flooring in my new apartment. They also added door saddles. I contacted Shalom Flooring because of the company's "A Rating" on Angies list. Daniel promptly visited my apartment and provided an estimate the day after I called him. The day after that he and his crew began the work, which had to be done over a two-day period because furniture needed to be moved. Daniel and his crew were very professional, did an excellent job and cleaned up after they were done. I am very pleased with the work they did. My floors look great!

We had an absolutely great experience with Daniel and we cannot recommend him highly enough. We got several estimates. Daniel was clearly the most knowledgeable and he was the second least expensive. The floors in the three-bedroom Manhattan co-op that we purchased in December 2012 were in worse shape than we realized. The floor in the master bedroom had suffered water damage from a leaking radiator. Much of that damaged floor had been covered by a built-in desk and cabinetry. The floor in that room was warped, discolored and uneven. The floors in the living room and one of the bedrooms were mismatched in color due to earlier repairs necessitated by water damage. Daniel assured us he could repair the floors and make them look like new. He succeeded. Daniel helped us pick out a stain. On the morning of his first day at work in our apartment, he had one of his men sand a portion of the floor and stain it using three different color stains. He advised us on which stain to choose and we were happy with his suggestion. The work proceeded quickly. Although we weren't living in the apartment at the time, I would visit the apartment at the end of each day to check on the progress of the work. It was clear that the men were neat and they cleaned up well at the end of each day. We also heard the same thing from the doormen. The work began on January 8th and finished on the 15th, which was six work days. When Daniel finished, the floors looked just great. You cannot tell that there ever was any water damage. The floors are no longer warped, they are even and uniform in color throughout the apartment. The closet floors match the existing parquet floors and are just what we had hoped for. After I paid Daniel, I noticed that we were missing a saddle (the piece of wood at the bottom of a door between the hallway and the room). Daniel dropped off the missing saddle promptly and at no additional charge. Some weeks later, when we were moving into the apartment, the movers damaged the floor. I called Daniel and he came in to Manhattan from Long Island to give advice and an estimate. I offered to pay his expenses, but he refused. Despite the opportunity to make more money, he suggested that I hold off on repairing the damaged floor and live with it for a while to see if it bothered me. I really appreciated his honesty, integrity and willingness to give his time and expertise. I highly recommend him and would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Remove existing base molding. Daniel and his team are fantastic. I emailed the company to ask them to come give me an estimate for the work. Daniel called back promptly, and showed up as scheduled to give the estimate. I chose Shalom for price, but also because Daniel asked the right questions and clearly knew what he was talking about - I was nervous because parquet flooring can be tricky. I was eager to get the work done quickly, and Shalom was able to start within days. Daniel & team arrived on time on the morning of the work. They started by sanding a small area of the floor and applying a few different shades of stain for me to choose from. They offered advice when asked, but didn't try to steer me in one direction or another. Then I left them to their work (and left town). As promised, Daniel emailed me a photo of the floors when they were done so I could have an idea of what I'd be coming home to. They got the work done quickly, but with high quality. When I saw the floors in person they were perfect. All the worn, darker, scratched-up areas were smoothed over. All the corners, including inside the closets, were done just as carefully as the main areas. But most impressive was the repair of the loose boards - now you can't tell that anything was ever wrong. It's perfect. I'm delighted. The only problem I noticed was that the floor sanding tool took a small gash out of one of the walls in the hall. I told Daniel about it and said that, since I was having the place painted anyway, that I could just have the painters fix it. But no - he insisted that his guys come out and fix their own mistake, which they did. Obviously I would have liked for them to have fixed it on their own before I noticed, but Daniel's level of professionalism in rectifying the problem right away (and even after I had paid him the balance for the work!) was terrific. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Shalom to anyone.
Description of Work: Sanded, stained and refinished parquet hardwood floors throughout my apartment. Also some repairs to some loose boards - very minor in scope, but in the middle of the most visible area of my living space, so very important to get right.

Shalom installed floors in my kitchen. It is a small 8 x 10 space. They removed old tile that was previously laid incorrectly, and then laid down the new flooring. It took one full day and another few hours the next day. Overall the job went well and the work was done professionally. It was still not flawless, as there was some confusion about the saddles and whether they were to be installed and stained by Shalom or us. In the end they stained and polyurethaned the saddles. The other issue that came up was that the floor really could have been completed in one day. They did 9/10 of the flooring but then left the rest (only working until 4:30 pm) and came back the next day. No big deal in the long run, but a little bit confusing as to why they didn't do it all in one day. Also payment at the end was a little bit awkward, as they wanted to be paid even though they still had to finish the saddle work. For these reasons I would not hire them again, but overall I thought they did a good job. Not sure if this makes sense. I just feel that in a world where there are so many contractors, I would not hire someone again after they give me a difficult time about saddles or payment. There are a lot worse (people who don't call you back or want to charge you a lot more money than I paid Shalom), but there may be people who are better too.

Our floors look great, we couldn't be happier with the work Daniel and his crew performed. They did a very even job on the sanding, the poly was applied very evenly and there was no debris to be seen in the finish. They were very thorough and made sure to finish all the flooring within every closet. Best of all, Daniel sent me photos as his crew worked so I could see the progression of the job.
Description of Work: Had original hardwood floors refinished throughout our home; our living room, dining room, hallways and three bedrooms. Based on Daniel's advice and the great condition of the floors (they had been covered and ultimately protected by wall to wall carpeting since the house was built in the mid 1950s) we decided to forgo a stain, keeping the floors "naked" and applying 3 coats of water-base poly.

This A+ review of Shalom Flooring has been long overdue! I contacted Daniel of Shalom Flooring regarding an estimate for a repair to the engineered hardwood floors in my home. Shalom Flooring was also the company that installed the new floors in my home last year so I felt very comfortable contacting them again. I ordered a new refrigerator and the appliance delivery men damaged an area of flooring right outside my kitchen. The appliance company said they would consider covering the repair if I provide them with an estimate from a flooring company of my choosing. I immediately contacted Daniel who provided the estimate within 24 hours of my request. Unfortunately, the appliance company's insurer ultimately decided to deny my claim for the repair so I wasn't able to hire Shalom Flooring this time for the job. However, I am very happy with my dealings with Shalom Flooring and would gladly hire them in the future for any future flooring projects.

Description of Work: Daniel arrived on schedule with Jose and after a brief explanation of what they were going to do, set out to start the process of closing off the areas to the adjourning rooms, in order to keep the sanding dust to a minimum. After the sanding and staining, they left for the day. The following day, they returned for the two water based poly applications. Early Sunday morning, I noticed something that I thought Daniel should take a look at (some shading) and called his cell number and left voice mail. Minutes later he called me back and said he would be by on Monday around 4PM. I agreed to that time. On Monday at about 3:40PM, he showed up, looked at what my concern was and went to work to correct it to my satisfaction. New life has been given to my old (1954) red oak floors. To date I have received a number of comments on the "new floor". Once again I say thank you to Daniel and his crew for a job well done. I would recommend them and will use them in the future should the need arise.

We LOVE Daniel and Shalom Flooring. It wasn't just that he was so pleasant to deal with and had the best attitude of probably any person we'd dealt with on our 5,000 square foot hamptons house but I truly believe his guys are true craftsman. It was as if our floors where theirs and there was nothing they'd do that wouldn't be great. Really, there is not enough great things I could say about these guys. I am REALLY picky and wanted the floors done JUST RIGHT. They totally delivered. Honestly, you'd be insane to pick anyone else but Daniel and his crew.

Daniel was a pleasure to work with. He is very personable, gave me an over the phone estimate and when he came, said he would stick to that number. His team started promptly a few days after we met which was important since i was on a very very tight time schedule. His men did a great job with everything and the floors look fantastic. They went above and beyond the call of the job and took out extra debris and items in the apt i asked to be removed and even took off doors and cut them when since some hit the ground now w/ the new hardwood flooring. they did a nice job cleaning up after the job was done and i like the workers so much i gave them a tip. highly recommended. very high quality work for a very good price. was the lowest of the 5 quotes i received.

Daniel came out and gave us an estimate. We had to wait three weeks to schedule the job since the vinyl tile had to be a special order, but this was not a problem. The workman assigned to ther job was a craftsman. Just watching him work cutting the tiles to fit odd shapes was an eye opener, He was neat, professional and pleasant and when the job was done the place was clean as a whistle..

I phoned Daniel to arrange for an estimate to be done at my rental house. He tried very hard to squeeze me in for the only date I was going to be available to have him come, even though he had a lot on his plate for that day, but he ended up stuck on another job and was going to be somewhat delayed, so I had to cancel the appointment since I couldn't remain at the house to wait on that particular day. Because I really enjoyed my conversation with him during our initial phone call, when he seemed very willing to explain his recommendations, to answer my questions, and to do the job according to the methods and materials of my preference, plus he just seemed like a genuinely nice and caring person, and genuinely sorry that he'd gotten delayed, I decided to give him the chance to provide an estimate by using measurements taken by another contractor and by my answering questions about the areas to be done, which would have been what he'd have done anyway had he seen the house in person on that day. I had such a good feeling about his honesty and expertise, based on my conversations with him, that, after his bid was in the middle of the three I'd requested (not a huge difference compared with the lowest bid), that I decided rather than just going with the lowest bid, I would ask him to meet the price of one of the other estimates in order to be awarded the job. Basically, I wanted to work with him as long as he was able to do the job at a price that was more or less comparable to the lowest bid. He was happy to oblige, and was able to schedule the job on relatively short notice to take place the following week. When the time came to do the job, I met with Daniel on the job site, right on schedule, at which time he brought two workers to join him. They were very helpful in moving a few pieces of furniture around that needed to be moved, and began the work promptly and efficiently with all needed equipment. Daniel's estimate of the amount of time needed to do the job, two-three (preferably two) days, was spot on, which was important due to the needs of my tenant. Realizing on the first day that because of a few complications involving a fairly large number of staples in the carpet that had to be removed and some floor spots that needed extra sanding in order to maximize their post-finishing appearance, Daniel was wise and kind enough to secure an additional worker to help expedite the work on day two in order to ensure that the job would be done in two days as my tenant requested. He agreed to my request to be phoned two hours before completion of the job so that I could drive out from my residence to the job site to examine the finished work and make payment, instead of having to hang around all day at the job site until it was done. This showed great consideration of the value of my time, and a genuine spirit of caring and cooperation. When I arrived to view the job, the workers had just finished up, and Daniel remained to answer my questions and collect payment. He was very helpful in answering questions that I had about how to deal with concerns that had arisen as a result of the fact that the carpet had been removed, and was very clear that he would be happy to answer any other questions or concerns that might arise after he left. In other words, not the sort of company that would do a job, leave and forget they ever saw you. I had the sense, as a result, that this would be the company I would engage in the future should I, in the near future, wish to either refinish other rooms in the house, or to re-do the newly refinished rooms many years down the road. As for the quality of the work, especially given that my floors were not in perfect shape, Daniel an his crew did an amazingly beautiful job, one that far exceeded my expectations for how it would look. I truly could not have asked for a better refinishing job in my wildest dreams and only wish that I was refinishing it for my immediate use rather than for rental. I would therefore offer my highest recommendation for Shalom Flooring, as you will not be disappointed by the quality of the work as well as the reliability of the service.
