American Contracting and Roofing

Received 1st bid in 2022 in late summer for our garage and house roofs to be redone. They didn’t have time to do our roofs because weather change very quickly, so we were told it would start in the spring ,once the weather broke. We called him in the spring. He said he had to come out and look at our house again to make sure everything was good to go.Then they shot us another bid and raised it up over $6000. REALLY!! Really!! We left multiple messages for them to call us for an explanation. They would NEVER return our calls. They are RUDE Very DISRESPECTFUL and very POOR business skills. We saved money for this job to have our home completed.

Roofing job went well and seemed to be working. Recently (late 2012, early 2013) noticed considerable ice forming along with huge icicles forming along eaves. Have gone out and knocked down icicles but they quickly reform. 1/2/13 noticed a huge puddle of water on ledge of bay window (installed in 1992 and had never leaked until 2009). Called to ask about ice barrier and guarantee but was put off by Don Spencer that it "has been a long cold snap, ice builds up and I need to go out and remove snow from roof and all should be OK". Apparently when his work is completed that is it. There is no guarantee of workmanship or remedy for any problems that were to be solved by his original installation. I had gotten several quotes, etc. and felt I was picking the best contractor for my problem....buyer beware and check out any references if you can get them. You have my reference....do not hire this contactor for any roofing.

**** BE WARNED**** It is very hard to know who to hire when you are doing projects in your house. I thought at first I made a good choice with this company but in the end I was very wrong. They did what they said they were going to do, put on a new roof. It looked nice when done but who knew about 2 years later part of the roof would be falling apart. When I noticed some of the roofing had come apart I called American Contracting to have it fixed. They said it would cost about $240.00 even after only having the roof for 2 years. I decided to wait and have a few other contractors take a look. It is a good thing I did because they all said that was the worst job they have ever seen. The entire section was falling apart. The roof had completely lifted up off of the nails. I did call Don at American Contracting back and told him all of this. He had the nerve to say he would come look at it and give me an estimate. He blamed the roof falling apart on the harsh winter we had. I live in Western New York, all winters are harsh!! It seems odd to me that the previous roof lasted 20 years through several bad winters and there was never a problem. I feel I did get taken advantage of and would never recommend this company to anyone. I hope this review makes others think twice before hiring American Contracting.
